For the price everything was excellent! (hence my 5stars) The location is great and convenient. The staff is the best I've come across in the area and my room was very nice with a fire place. The innkeeper is very nice and even built up a nice fire for us for free of charge! He took care of all our requests and is just a great person. Everything was very clean, the decor was well balanced and most important it was quiet. No crazy drunk college kids running around making noise. One of the best steaks you can get is made in the restaurant attached to the lodge. I was extremely satisfied with my stay and will return 100%. read more

Great place, very convenient location. The staff was extremely friendly. Our room was fantastic,very spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable, all the furniture looked renovated and nice. We absolutely loved the fireplace, it was very romantic. Housekeeping did a great job too. There are just two cons about this place- there was no fridge and no coffee maker in the room :( We stayed there for 3 days so we took food with us that i cooked prior to the trip and it was quite disappointing not to find a fridge in the room , and I had to keep the food in the car just so it doesn't go bad. So if you're not a tea- or coffeeholic like me and you are not planning to take food that requires a fridge , you will love this place! We will definitely go back!! read more

Some friends and I stayed here a few weeks ago for some skiing and to celebrate my sister's birthday. We were drawn to this establishment mainly because of its proximity to Stratton and its advertisement that it was conjoined with a tavern and steakhouse. Celebrating the occasion with some food and drinks and not having to worry about driving around afterwards seemed an ideal prospect to us, so we eagerly booked a room. Upon our arrival around dinner time we noticed an air of desolation about the place. When we asked about the tavern, the woman at the front desk seemed confused before supposing that it had been closed for repairs. Though the room suited our basic needs for the night (we stayed in the turquoise room), we got a sense that the management and staff were not too concerned with making anyone's stay seem exceptional. As noted in earlier reviews, there were a few stains on the carpet and signs of shoddy repairs. The worst, however, was a stain of fecal matter on the rug in the bathroom, which also contained a few loose tiles. I have no gripe with pet friendly hotels, but I'd like to hope that proper measures are taken to make sure that all signs of animal hair and/or stains are gone before subsequent guests use the room. We were not entirely disappointed. The self-serve fireplace was a neat (albeit dangerous) way to provide ambiance and further heat the room. I will add that there were no issues with temperature as we were provided with a functional space heater. The cable box also worked, so we had some form of entertainment, although we would have been much happier playing pool and drinking some beers as we had envisioned. Though I'm not sure about the degree of association between the two businesses, I would recommend that Stone's Lodge either change the information included (very prominently, I might add) in their website, or make a point of informing potential guests that the restaurant will be closed until further notice. read more

Location is good, staff is friendly, place is pretty clean. Yet SO MANY things were WRONG with our rooms (can't turn off blasting heat, 2/3 of lights not working, window shades won't rise, much more...) that it was comical. Facility is falling apart. Stone's is a bad value for the cost, but close to Stratton Mt skiing and the inn's people are nice even if they are not effective. read more

Our stay at Stone's Lodge was HORRIBLE! Our room was filthy. There were feces stains on the carpet and no curtains on the windows. The bathroom was shoddy, and the shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold. Our room was not cleaned during the day at all, the beds were barely made and the trash wasn't taken out. It was so bad that we ended up checking out a day early. Our innkeeper, Travis, looked like a hippie pirate. He was a nice guy, though, and he did the best he could. But when we were about to check out, he was telling the folks ahead of us that "a lot of people complain" about the place. Great! I add my voice to them. read more

This place isn't a bad place, it's a Horrible, Over priced, sloppy POS place. First of all 180.00 a night is outrageous for any place. And no, they don't have the right to charge that much b/c they are close to the mountain. I had a friend who stayed in Manchester (80 bucks a night) and it was only a few more miles away from where we did. So here's my experience. Yes, the website is beautiful and I do appreciate that they allow pets. But that's where the good..ends. We stayed one night and that was enough. We had 2 rooms, but when we checked in 11 AM, no rooms were ready. Drove up 5 hrs, would have loved the chance to change in our room, but it wasn't ready. I'm patient, and thought, it will be ready later on. Hit the slops, had a good time. When we arrived, our bags were in our room, which was cool. What wasn't cool...the nasty old sheets that were in a ball and the room was never ready for us. All day they had and this room wasn't ready and the guy who had way too many good balls at a Phish Show, didn't even give a crap. But that worked out b/c he could only eff us in the ass for one room and not two. SO....The 5 of us stayed in our room; the Turquoise room. Let me just tell you is is no Gem of a room. It's all kinds of effed up. Holes and paneling missing, no screens on the windows, giant grease stain on the floor, shower had more holes in it than a wedge of Swiss cheese and the beds were stiff as hell. Least we had heat. **While we were waiting for our keys, another woman staying there said it was 4 hrs since the heat went on. SMDH! The breakfast the next day. Yes, free breakfast, but the catch is..there is no time listed for when it is available, so it could be all morning before you see a crumb. 9 AM there was still no spread. They put it out this late b/c they hope you run for the hills (literally) and they can avoid spending cash on the food items. We hung around and waited and 945 hit and the food was released! Our spread: 4 stale muffins, tasted like pancake batter, no coffee and no juice. Funny thing, the guy putting out the crap grub was, he was sipping on a nice tall cup of JAVA that he bought at the 7-11. And I love lack of hospitality. We had room issues and he didn't ask how our night was. All that was there was a bread basket with room keys in it. Sure they were thinking: out of sight, out of mind, right? Finally, the review before ours...the guy from NJ, I wish we came up with him. I unfortunately had a completely different experience. There was no hospitality, no care, no nothing. We went up here for a funeral and stayed in 2 rooms. We stayed 8/2013. The hotel is a converted bard/stable. It does have some charm and we were happy to find a place that was pet friendly as we were travelling with our 10 week old puppy. The Turquoise room was not as pictured. The windows had no shades but had curtains pulled back so we made do. There were cobwebs all along room as well as stained carpets. The white comforters were also stained and the "so-called" 1500 ct thread sheets were wrinkled. I venture to guess they were only 500 thread ct. The bathroom towels were more like rags than towels. The shower head was so low I had to duck under it to shower (but it did have good pressure). The ceiling above one of the beds had nailed in sheetrock that didn't even match the rest of the ceiling and there didn't even seem to be an attempt to patch it and make it look nice. Molding was also missing from this area around the ceiling. The Cat Room was the other room we stayed in. It was filthy with cobwebs. My sister said she didn't get any sleep because it was so dirty. Breakfast made to order the next morning was a joke. One of the choices - 2 eggs and bacon ... note that's all you get...no toast. I asked for toast and got 1 piece. I asked for a second piece and then also had to ask for butter for the toast and then a knife. Orange juice was on the menu but when we asked for it, we were told there is cranberry juice on the other table we can have. Very poor service, very low quality establishment, very overpriced for the shape it is in. I see potential with this place but our experience was horrible. read more

This place is the worst! Apart from the very friendly, helpful staff, Stone's Lodge under delivered in nearly every way possible. No shades or curtain for the largest window in our room? Wet wood for our fireplace? Rock hard beds? Off putting smell in the room? Damaged ceiling covered up with a board? Yes, this place has it all. If what you're looking for is a throwback to the worst 1970s inn from a horror movie, you've found your dream vacation spot. Not even worth the 1/2 price we paid using a Groupon deal. This place is seriously in need of some TLC. Cracked tiles, stained carpets, ripped shower curtains, water stains on the ceilings, cutouts in the drywall...you name it. The staff is nice but incompetent. Housekeeping is late and inefficient...they re-fill the little shampoo and lotion bottles with the latest product on the discount rack. Inn-keeper gets easily rattled and they do nothing to try to compensate for their shortcomings. At the prices they charge it is a serious rip-off. Do not trust the pictures on the website...the place is seriously falling apart. My guess...these people bought the place and don't have the funds to make the necessary repairs...in the meantime the place is continuing to deteriorate at an increasingly faster rate. read more

Although not perfect, Stone's Lodge provided us with a pretty nice place to stay for a weekend in Vermont. We picked up a Groupon last month and immediately booked the Diamond Room, which is probably the nicest room there, for last weekend. The room was huge, complete with a fireplace, giant leather couch, and a California king-size bed. The bed was super comfortable, and everything was clean. There were some kinks the place could work out. For example, when we came in on our second night, the hallway was completely dark, so we had to walk in the dark toward our room, and we could see a light under our door, which felt kind of sketchy because we had turned all the lights off on our way out. Then once we got to our room, we found that the staff left our door unlocked, which was a little unnerving, though nothing was stolen. Also, soon after we checked in, the innkeeper gave us some firewood, which looked good and dry, but it was actually pretty wet - it sizzled a ton as we attempted to burn it, and after several scout tries to light a fire on our second night, we had to give up, which was a disappointment. The inn itself is very old, and a lot of things are worn, like the wallpaper, carpets, and flooring. I read some reviews beforehand, so I knew that there is no hairdryer in the room, so I brought my own. If I hadn't known that, that would have been a problem for me, especially since it's getting colder, and I don't want to go outside with wet hair. The staff was friendly enough, and you can tell they try. I asked about an ice machine on our first night there, and while there isn't one just open for guests to use, the innkeeper took my water bottle and filled it with ice in back. Each morning, there was a pretty decent spread of bread, muffins, coffee, and juice, which was just enough for a quick boost of energy before going out. When I told them about our room being unlocked, they did apologize. Overall, it wasn't a bad place to stay. I had to knock a few stars off for the door issue and the firewood, but if you're just looking for a comfortable bed and clean room, you can find it here. read more

Wish I could give ZERO stars. Let me quickly summarize why you should avoid this place at ALL costs: 1. Doesn't look all that great to begin with 2. Canceled our reservation with less than two days notice 3. Didn't bother to call to cancel but instead sent an email 4. No offer to rectify the situation (even though they would have charged me 50% of the hotel cost if I were to have backed out of the reservation on such short notice) 5. Manager REFUSED to speak to me As for the details... I had reserved this hotel so we could spend the weekend skiing at Stratton for my boyfriend's birthday. The late cancellation left us with no alternative lodging in the area and forced us to taking a day trip from Boston-- not exactly the relaxing weekend I had envisioned. Even this could have been forgotten if the management had made even the smallest attempt to make the situation right. Instead, i tried and failed to contact the manager for 4 days straight. I do have to say that the gentlemen taking my calls was very pleasant and professional. Sadly he didn't have the authorization to offer me anything in exchange for the inconvenience. I hope the owner sees this review and realizes what their management staff is doing to their business. read more

This place is not for Joeys and fufu people. It's old and needs work but I kind of like it. Stayed two nights in the opal. The poorly designed fireplace smoked us out of the room for a few minutes but eventually started to draft well. We arrived late and no staff was on duty so they left our key on the counter. The housekeeping left the window open probably because the last people smoked the room out to. It was 40 degrees in the room which made for immediate under the down blankets. The room got up to temp in a few hours. Was it worth the $170 two night groupon? I guess seeing as most places near here are that much a night. read more

LOCATION DOES NOT MEAN EVERYTHING! There are no words to describe this place, thats how appalling this experience was. First off, the online photos DO NOT resemble what this place actually looks like. You are better off at a motel or maybe even a tent out in the woods. Please, just save your money!!!! When i first arrived the room was so dirty! There was a left over bobby-pin from the people before us, snow/salt spots on the wooden floors, bathroom floors were FILTHY, and crumbs on the dresser tops. We asked for the room to be recleaned. Yes, they did reclean it, however, they did not even touch the bathroom. Therefore, we had to ask a second time for the room to be cleaned. I was so grossed out to the point where i couldn't even sleep without thinking i was going to catch bed bugs or something because i couldn't even tell if my sheets were cleaned. Also, breakfast is NOT served at 7AM it is served at 8AM!! I normally do not write reviews. However, this place was so disgusting that i just couldn't let it slide because this hotel is not by any means cheap, and i would not want any of my friends to go here. read more

Checked in on a Saturday after a long day of skiing at Stratton. We got the front room with the fireplace and didn't think it was "that bad" of a room. It was very old and outdated but it was somewhere to crash. After being in the room for about an hour I left to get some food and when I returned from outside into the room I smelled a horrible gas or oil odor. My girlfriend and I notified the person working at the front desk who came into the room and "couldn't smell anything" clearly he was trying to cover up for the smell. We told him we didn't feel safe staying in the room as we didn't know if there was a leak in the basement somewhere. He told us it was fine but said he could not give us the refund for the room and I would have to call back the next day when the owner would be there. I called back the next day and a guy named Troy told me "he was the one I needed to speak with" he listened to my story of the situation and took all my credit card information down and said "i'll take care of that for you and you should see the money back in your account within a few days". A week and a half went by and no money was ever refunded! When I called back to see why I didn't receive my Refund, a guy named Brendan picked up and told me he would leave a note for Troy to call me back and that "he was the only one who could give me the refund" after numerous phone calls, "Troy isn't in yet can I take a message" or "I will have Troy call you when he is in". No phone call and it has been 14 days since the incident happened. I don;t think I will be getting a call back and I had to file a Claim Dispute with my Bank in order to try And get my $168 back! (Yes that's what it cost for a 1 night stay at this dump!) DON'T EVER STAY HERE! Its not safe and I guarantee they would be shut down if the Fire Marshall ever inspected my situation. They are lucky I didn't take it to that next level. read more

Our friends got a groupon for it and we made phone reservations, but the for Marshall had shut it down months ago! We stayed at Stone's Lodge in the begining of December and had a wonderful stay! We stayed in the Sapphire room which had a beautiful in-room fireplace! We loved the personal attention we received from Travis, the innkeeper, who was very helpful in recommending tourist attractions to visit and even set up a fire in our fireplace for us! It was very convenient having a restaurant attached to the Lodge and we ate dinner at the Fat Spy Tavern two of the three nights we were visiting. The Lodge could definitely use a little updating but if you are looking for a quaint, hospitable place to stay that is full of character, look no further! :) read more

Pillows and Bed not comfortable (feather stuffed at that, allergies beware). Bedding and bathroom were clean, floor was not. Pictures are deceiving, room is small and missing items (tv, chair, dresser) Parking sucked, had to park in woods, parking lot was full do to the bar. I will not come back!
