We learned a while back that the HVAC ducting in the attic of our 25+ year-old home was disintegrating and that we were thus losing about 30% of our treated air. This was a low-gratification project, being something you can't see, but knowing we were paying to heat and cool air only for it to be wasted wasn't something I could live with as we approach summer. We got bids from Metal Masters, Nathan Perry and Stone Heating and Air. Each of the estimators seemed very kind and knowledgeable and I would have been confident selecting any one. However, the bid from Stone was by far the best, and two trusted friends gave them very good reviews for recent work. At one friend's suggestion, I accepted Stone's bid on the condition that a tech named Cameron do the work. Cameron and an apprentice Bryson showed up as scheduled and did the work very neatly and efficiently. In the process they corrected a problem created by the slapdash ("done too hurriedly and carelessly") work previously done on the system, probably at our purchase of the home about three years ago. I have not heard anything but good reports about all three of these companies but now I can add a personal recommendation for Stone. I suggest you ask for Cameron.

Our new Heat Pump - both cools and heats. Also Electrical installation at the back of the photo shows the great work they did!

It seems they stop working at 5PM and don't offer after hours service. I kept calling and spoke to Kevin, really sweet person. He was on a call in Jacksonville but said he'd come to our house next. He arrived within 30 minutes. Excellent communicator and really an expert in his field. Very straight-forward about the pros & cons of our choices to replace our thermostat and the cost which my husband & I appreciated. We slept in cool air. We are very grateful!!!

He had been referred by a friend who spoke very highly of his professionalism and work ethics; my friend was very happy with the furnace that Kevin had installed for him 2 years ago. Kevin made sure I had turned off my furnace and came out as soon as he could. When he turned the furnace on, he quickly assessed that my carbon monoxide level was dangerously high and this was caused by the heat exchange. To replace the heat exchange on my 20 year old furnace was not feasible due to the cost, so he quoted me a price of a new furnace that was not a Trane, but had the same warrantee and reputation, and was much more reasonable. He worked really hard on getting my old furnace out and spent wayyy more time than he anticipated, but did NOT charge me any extra at all! He made sure the new furnace was installed perfectly, making sure to correct the mistakes that the last furnace had, (the old furnace was not level, had air gaps, etc).... Kevin made sure it was perfect! Before he left, he checked all the carbon monoxide levels, and they were fine. He also refilled my air coolant for me and just charged for the coolant, not the evaluation or labor. All in all I feel Kevin Jahnke is an extremely compassionate, professional, very reliable Heating and Air Specialist... He will be the first person I call when I need servicing for my heating and air. Oh.. by the way... he is not affiliated with Jahnke's Heating and Air any longer.. that was a family business and now Kevin is out on his own. Call Kevin Jahnke if you want a professional that will get to you as soon as possible. His number again is 541-821-3881 or 541-664-4626

Jarra called awhile later to let me know how fortunate we are that "the company has cleared my afternoon so I will try to be there to take a look between 1:00 and 4:00 pm"-and that's with a cleared afternoon. Jarra also inquired about my email, claiming that no one can find it "Vicki can't find it the owner can't find it, everyone is looking but it isn't there." There were no problems with our email exchanges in December, so I am sure Vicki is simply having more trouble. Jarra texted around 3:15 to tell me he was headed our way from Eagle Point and arrived at our door at 3:50. He explained that he was on the phone and speaking with a technician about the codes I had told him about and that he would start trying to track the problem at the heat pump while talking with the technician. Jarra then came inside the house to the air handler while still speaking with the technician on speakerphone. The technician was explaining that there was no communication between the controls, the heat pump, and the air handler and he was quite certain of the cause. He told Jarra what he could do to test the theory and eliminate other possibilities, but again, he was certain of the fix needed. While they were talking Jarra answered a query from the technician saying "this unit is a 950, not an 850" which gave the technician pause before he said something like "oh, ok, I didn't realize that. Well, it is what it is but I am still betting that this is the fix." Jarra then explained that he needed to remove our thermostat from the living room wall and try to hook it up direct at the air handler to both the air handler and the heat pump to see if he could establish communication between the three. He then proceeded to do this. When I asked Jarra why the technician became sympathetic when he learned that this unit was a 950 instead of an 850, with some hemming/hawing Jarra explained that the 950 has some "peculiarities that can cause issues" or words to that effect. He further explained that there is now a 1050 that is supposed to address those issues. After connecting the thermostat direct to the air handler and heatpump control located in our closet, Jarra explained that he could not figure out how the wires were run from the thermostat in the livingroom to the air handler and would need to "check with my company to see when the can free someone up to come help me. You will need to leave the closet open so the the heat sensing unit can tell how warm it is. I will be back to finish this up as soon as we can arrange it. He then left us with nothing but a hole in the wall with wires sticking out where the thermostat was and the thermostat sitting on a toolbox in the closet with the air handler and instructions to leave the door open. Feb. 18, 2026 Jarra called this morning, inquired as to whether everything was still working. Then said something along the lines of "well I've talked with everyone I need to talk to on my end and we are ready to come back and complete the repair and I was wondering, , well management was wondering if we do that, would you be willing to withdraw your unfavorable Google review?" Not having expected to have my repair completion held hostage, I began to say that I would have to think about that, given that these issues have been ongoing since this company carelessly/recklessly allowed the computer motherboard in the system to get soaked. I further explained that along with the constant extra costs and uncomfortable temperatures, the constant interruptions to our lives having to wait/be available for 3-4 hours waiting for a technician, etc. have gone on for years as well and the company has remained completely unconcerned until right now. Jarra then did some more hemming and hawing and I asked him if what he was trying to say was that the company was trying to end our relationship hoping to further avoid responsibility. Jarra confirmed that it was his impression that if I am unwilling to reconsider and withdraw this review and forget everything that has gone before then the company wants to end the relationship, but said he would need to speak with them again and would call me back. Jarra called back about 10 minutes later to inform me that the company was quitting without finishing the current repair and was voiding the regular maintenance contract, "but they decided they would refund to you what is left on the contract. And at least it is working, but if you don't want to leave it like it is you will need to find someone else to finish the job. You could leave it like it is and it should be fine for awhile but it won't be as convenient.", or words to that effect. Was disappointed but unsurprised with Allied's decision, and sorry for Jarra's part in it. Shameful conduct all around.

Well, he called only to inquire how many registers (vents) were in the home. Apparently, 11 registers is above the normal 8 registers and we were quoted $890 over the phone and via email. I then called Jim Williams who was recommended by the very dependable Mark at AirTec. Jim arranged a time to come inspect and provide a quote. So pleasant and professional. We were quoted $400 and he was able to schedule the duct cleaning within the week! House air is noticeably "fresh" and we were so happy with his work!

BTW, I was quoted $150 when I told them I had the fan. I was NOT told it time & materials, I was NOT told it was $150 for 1 guy, $250 for 2. I was NOT told they markup product 50 PERCENT!!! Here's my email and their response (in quotes). Joseph Elkin josephe@rvheat.net Hello Kris - Thank you for your email below. I have tried to answer all your questions in red. Ok, so I've cooled off a bit from my previous email. Your guys were very pleasant, arrived early, did the job. "Thank you for this. We strive to treat everyone with respect and work hard to earn customers' appreciation." What I'm still really unhappy about is: * Lack of communication with ME, the homeowner, the one who made the call for service. "When you called for service you were offered a sales call to provide you with a proper quote, or T&M if you have the parts already and just want to pay for labor. You told the CSR who took your call that you have the parts needed. You chose the T&M option which is $150 per hour for one tech and $250 per hour for 2 techs plus material (marked up)." * No check in with me to see what my budget was. Was I ever asked? No. "When budget is a concern a hard number can be provided with a sales call. T&M can be the cheaper option but not always if you dont provide all of the correct material. We have most common items available on our vans and mark up that material and have it available for your convenience. If we dont have the material and have to go to the store you pay for that time." * Leaving and coming back THREE times - once to get self-tapping screws to make the fan I bought work (don't your guys carry this very common item?), second time to buy a new fan when they realized it wouldn't work, third time to buy a dryer hose. Not to mention, I would never have paid for them to drive around on my hard-earned dime to figure out where to find a new Broan fan. "When you choose T&M you need to have all the material needed or we have to go get it. In a t&m situation the owner absorbs the cost of material procurement." * I didn't care what brand it was, why they thought they had to match the brand is beyond me. Was I asked? No. "Alot of times the same brand will fit better than a different brand. My guys were just trying to get you the best option. They would have reacted the same on a hard bid (quoted) or T&M." * Then, to take even more time to NOT find a Broan and drive around to until they found a Panasonic one. I would have been happy with a cheap off-brand. Was I asked? No. "I am not sure if you were home during this, my guys said they were speaking with a gentleman on site. I believe they were trying to get back as quick as possible to get your install done. Material was supposed to be on site." * Had I been given the option to reschedule, I absolutely would have done that. Was I asked? No. "Once you have chosen the T&M option and we have blocked out time on our technician to facilitate the install, a rescheduling would send that technician home for the day or at least for that amount of time. You could have chosen this option but it sounds like whoever was directing my guys on site wanted to get it done." * Not leaving me the box, instructions, warranty card for the fan. "He will be by this afternoon. Please ask him for it. My guess would be he disposed of it in your trash can. The instructions can be found on line. As far as warranty is concerned we warranty it for 1 yr." * I still want to a copy of the receipt to see what he paid for it. "All material is marked up to an additional 50%. Ill have the office send you a receipt for your records." * Your guy had Rob give him $20 to go buy an 8' dryer hose. I'm sure they didn't use all 8', so where's the extra length? It should have been left with me. "Please ask him for it when he is there this afternoon. If he doesn't have it let me know how long of a piece you think we owe you and ill get it." * Your guy gave Rob the receipt for this item, so why not the receipt for the fan? "Receipts that go to the project have to be turned in so we can properly bill out the job. I can get you a copy." I had been quoted $150 and because anything construction/maintenance is always more than I thought, I had $250 in mind for this project. "You were quoted $150 per hour plus material. Your project took 3 times longer than it should have because you did not have the right fan parts when we arrived." Instead, I spent $741.19. Almost 3 TIMES what I anticipated. "Our flat rate to replace a basic bathroom fan is $930. This price includes a basic bathroom fan with a light and do a straight swap. Typical installs go as high as $1250. You still saved money going the t&m route even considering all of things that went wrong." "I do apologize if this install was above your budget. I would highly recommend getting 3 quotes on future installs ...
