Joe fixed my vintage Bose Wave radio in one day and for exactly the price he quoted. I was very pleased with his work and the fact that he saved what would have been a sadly departed great radio and CD player. He knew exactly what was wrong and it works and sounds like new. Thanks Joe! read more

I have spent a ton of money and time trying to find a shop that actually knows how to repair vintage stereos. Three different technicians attempted to fix my Marantz 2385 before I found The Right Guy! Stone Electronics fixed what others claimed to be unfixable. Joe brought it back to perfect working order. He has since repaired a 2270 as well, and will repair everything for me from here on out. Joe is the guy I've been looking for! MATTHEW, LAS VEGAS read more

So amazing to find a store that fixes older audio electronics. We all know so many amazing products will never be seen again. Joe actually cares and provides outstanding customer service in a centralized location. His prices are more than fair and his shop is a museum of cool vintage components. I would trust him with any of my electronics. I'm sure he also accepts repairs shipped to him and would come look at vintage home systems if asked. read more

We are lucky to have Stone Electronics in Los Angeles. A truly valuable and a wonderful small business. One peek into that shop and you'll understand why Joe has such loyal customers. I brought him an art piece that had an electric element that separated. I thought that I could just get someone to solder it for me. Joe explained why it broke and let me know that he could fix it (even though it wasn't technically electronic.) He made it better than it was and I got to hear some of his wonderful stories along the way. In this disposable culture, it feels good to support a business that helps us preserve some of our history. I'm sure that being in a prime spot on Beverly is expensive, but I hope they can stay there forever. Joe has a beautiful antique radio that he repaired and I want to buy, so I'll be heading back there soon! read more

I came across Joe by looking at reviews to help repair my Pioneer PL-570 turntable that I shipped from Pennsylvania with UPS. When I opened the box it was completely destroyed. I then went to Joe to see if there is anything he could do and he honestly told me there is nothing he could do. He then said that he had one he completely fixed up and would be willing to sell me that one for the same price I bought mine. I sent my notice to UPS about the damage and got my money back for the price of the turntable and the shipping. I then called Joe for that refurbished PL-570 he had (one showed above). It has been easily the best turntable I have had and sounds NEW!! Fast forward 6 months later, I picked up a Yamaha CA-2010 integrated amplifier (shown above). I started realizing that the speaker balance was off and the amp would overheat. I then called Joe to see if he can work on it. He agreed and gave it a full overhaul. He fixed the balance because of the transistors weren't properly biased, he even fixed the heating issue, and installed an LED for my on switch. I can listen to countless LPs for a very long time without worrying about it overheating. Most of all the clarity and detail of this amp now is second to none. The clarity stays even at VERY HIGH volume. At that same time of him repairing my Yamaha. I accidentally blew my Darlington pair transistor (STK-0050) in my Pioneer SX-780 causing other components to short as well. I then called Joe as he was working on my Yamaha and was more than happy to fix it up as well.He again repaired it to a new condition and it sounds even better than before. I can't even describe how amazing Joe is! He is one of the rare one that really loves what he does! On top of that, he calls after the repair to make sure it is good for you. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Joe for anyone needing repair for any audio equipment. He also repairs your equipment for a VERY reasonable price. He will always let you know before he works on your equipment how much it would cost about. Again THANK YOU JOE! If anything happens again, I will for sure bring it to Joe. read more

THIS GUY IS FANTASTIC! HE FINALLY FIXED MY VINTAGE SONY TC-D5M! I have had a Sony TC-D5M for more than 20 years and love it but for the past 6 years I've not been able to use it because it needs a new main belt and I couldn't find a repair person to change it out fafter the group in Berkeley closed down a few years ago. These professional cassette tape field recorders were the "State-of-The-Art" in ENG audio for years. If you listened to NPR, ESPN or any of the network radio interviews or the excellent "Vox-Pop" street interviews, the you heard these analog recorders before the advent of the digital recorders of the late 70s including MP3s and DATs. The problem is there are fewer people around who can or are willing to learn how to repair the vintage units. That's where Joe at Stone Electronics comes in. I was told about him by a "Gyro Gearloose" buddy of mine who I had luckily quizzed concerning a repairmen who might be able to change a belt on my Sony TC-D5M, apparently no mean feat on these somewhat complex machines. Well, that guy is Joe at Stone Electronics. Joe wasn't sure if he could fix whatever was ailing my machine but he agreed to take it on and told me he'd call once he had a bead on the solution. I had the machine regularly serviced, as I mentioned, with the group in Berkeley (can't remember their name) that used to repair and maintain these Sony TC-D5Ms as well as other vintage equipment but they have closed up shop or stopped doing the Sonys, or disappeared or both? TBD? Anyone have an update on that? The good news is that I have my machine back, it works like the old days and I have a new vintage repair guy named Joe! read more

BY NO MEANS GO TO THIS PLACE! Completely tried to hustle me I went in to have a metal piece replaced in my record player- he said he charges $95 service fee. I kindly said "no thank you" because I only paid $150 for the machine so it was not worth it for me. He said "how much was your budget?" , I said "$60" again because he was unscrewing and putting in a new piece. He goes "Leave it here come back in an hour and I will fix it for you and pay what you can." I came back within the hour and he had the new piece screwed in for me. I thanked him and asked if I could pay by card. He said the amount "was $120". I kindly said again "I'm not paying $120 because that was not worth it to me." He said okay well I will undo and give you back the piece. I watched him unscrew the piece which took 1 minute and hand me back my machine. Point being do not promise a service for $60 then I come back to pick it up and he wanted $120. I am a young woman by myself and he completely tried to hustle me. read more

I recently purchased a 1989 Technics cassette deck off eBay to take some of the digital "edge" off my favorite albums on Tidal. After falling in love with the sound and functions of the deck, it up and busted on me a few weeks into my ownership. Such are the risks of buying vintage. I am so glad I took my machine to Joe at Stone Electronics. This is a special deck -- it's direct drive, meaning it doesn't use any of the rubber belts that typically plague most cassette decks. It also means that when things DO go wrong, parts are rare, and it requires a skilled technician to diagnose and repair. Joe is hands-down that skilled technician. I was confident after reading similar reviews that if my deck could be fixed, Joe would be the one to do it. I wasn't wrong. He was upfront about the cost of repairs, called with updates, and fixed it within 48 hours. I highly, highly recommend Stone Electronics. If you're having any trouble with your vintage audio gear -- look no further. There aren't too many of these guys around anymore. read more

Joe is truly amazing. I had two high end Mitsubishi VCRs that were not working. (An HS-U80 and a HS-U82) I tried a local guy that was touted for specifically repairing VCRs and he gave up almost immediately. I then went across town to a place that was also highly recommended, and they charged me $75 non refundable for an estimate for each machine. To make a long story short ... they kept them both for over 6 months "trying to find parts" IN fact, they did nothing to help either unit, and in fact in the attempt to fix them did further damage. I dropped tboth VCRs with Joe, and I left a deposit, and he went immediately to work. Within a week BOTH VCRs were back to fully operational status. He has lots of parts for older machines and devices of all types, and if he can't fix it, as in one of my Mitsubishi motors, he actually is usually able to repair or rebuild it. No one does things like that any more. Bottom line if you have a piece of older equipment you cherish and want it working again, Joe is THE guy. He is not dirt cheap, but if you want something that is "unrepairable" repaired, Joe can get it done .... BIG TIME ... Tanks Joe! read more

Stone Electronics - Marantz 2230 stereo receiver - Electronics Repair Near Me - Los Angeles, California

I found a beautiful and legendary Luxman R-1120a several years ago on C'slist ($250) that was in need of a tune up and some repairs to the rosewood case. I'm a carpenter so was on the "case" immediately. The electronics are a different story. I originally brought the unit to Tom Ishimoto at Northridge Electronics and he gave it a cleaning and thorough inspection. Everything was good for a year or so and then my power button went bad so Tom fixed that. Then Tom "retired". Fast forward to last year and my left channel started coming in and out. I brought the Luxman to a nice gentlemen who specializes in speakers but said he could repair my unit. That turned out not to be true because he "fixed" my channel issue but "killed" my tuner. Then the channel issues popped up again! So, I discovered Stone Electronics on Yelp and felt confident based on the reviews that I may have found a new technician. And they are in my neighborhood so even better. I dealt directly with Joe and explained to him the history of the reciever. I told him I was in no rush so he could take his time. After several months (Covid) I called to check in and Joe said he would put it on the bench soon and let me know what he finds. I was fine with that. He called me within a few days and said he wasn't finding anything obvious and needed to systematically inspect the unit. He said it was a labor intensive process vs a problem sourcing parts and gave me a not to exceed cost to solve the issue of $400. At that time I was considering my options to invest more into the Luxman or sell/trade it. I decided to cut my losses and pay the $95 service fee and think about it. When I went back to pick up my Luxman Joe reminded me that it was a great/rare piece and encouraged me to repair it because he said it was worth it. He said he advised people not to repair equipment all the time but this piece was definitely worth it. He also said I could bring it back later and he would subtract the $95 fee from the total which I thought was very fare. I explained I was nervous that the unit could be a money pit since it kept having issues but I agreed to let him investigate further and repair the unit. Joe called me a few weeks later to say he had found the issue and that it took over six hours to figure it out. He said the last tech created a mystery for him but he finally discovered a part that was installed improperly. When I went back to pick it up Joe played it for me and everything was working perfect again. And he even repaired the broken AM antenna bracket that had been bothering me since day one! All for the original quote of $400 which turned out to be a good deal for me. Joe stood by his word and the Luxman is working perfectly again! I definitely found a new technician! Update: During Covid lockdown my Luxman R1120a started having the same problem with the left channel cutting out intermittently. Joe told me to bring it in and he would investigate. I brought it to Joe and explained the issue and told him I was in no hurry so not to feel any pressure. After touching base back and forth for several months Joe reached out and said he worked several hours carefully re-diagnosing and cleaning the unit. He replaced a few things (my terminology) and undid a problem he discovered from a previous repair done by a different repair guy. He said he had it on the bench playing all day and it never cut out so I should come get it and see how it worked at home. I explained that my Luxman turntable had also stopped working properly so Joe suggested I drop it off and he would keep both units for a couple days and make sure he had them both running perfectly. Sure enough a few days later Joe called and the turntable was completely tuned up and cleaned and working/looking great! It had also been worked on by the previously mentioned repair guy and Joe fixed an issue related to that previous repair. I happily paid Joe the agreed upon price for the turntable and my receiver was still under warranty so I couldn't be happier. Glad to say that both units are getting full use without issues for the last several weeks! Thanks Joe! read more

Joe at Stone Electronics is simply brilliant! I have a "Vintage" turntable that fits perfectly in my custom stereo rack, which stopped working. I was reluctant to replace it since it used to be great and was aesthetically pleasing. I brought it over to Stone Electronics and Joe said " no problem, I will call with an estimate in a few days". Joe called the day after with a very reasonable quote and after I approved had the turntable working as "new", the day after! Stone Electronics is an excellent repair shop in Los Angeles, and that is hard to find. Joe, the owner, is very experienced and skilled. The price for his work is not cheap, but it is reasonable. If your vintage electronics have value to you, then he will make sure you are satisfied with the repairs. I brought in a Yamaha 701 turntable, and a Bose CD-3000 acoustic wave music system. Joe was familiar with both products. His customer service and workmanship were extraordinary. The first product I brought in was the Yamaha turntable. I explained that I wanted to get it repaired for my mom so that she could listen to her Christmas records in time for the holidays. Within three days, the turntable service was completed. Joe called me on the telephone to inform me of the actual price for the repair, which was within the range of his original estimate. When I arrived at the repair shop to pick up the turntable, Joe played a record to prove that the turntable worked. I carefully packed the turntable into a cardboard box with foam padding, and transported it to my mom's house in the trunk of a car. When I set up the turntable, I discovered that the counterweight was out of alignment, the result of movement during transportation. I called Joe, and explained the situation. He said to bring it in and he would correct the problem. I returned to his shop at the end of the day, and he stayed after-hours to reset the weight while I was there. He even taped the weight in place so that it would not stray out of alignment during transportation again. Once I got the turntable to my mom's house for the second time, the turntable worked properly. My mom was able to listen to her Christmas records, and she was very happy. The second product I brought in was the Bose CD-3000. I told Joe that the CD player was not working, and he said that the laser pickup was the most common problem. Once again, Joe called me on the telephone within three days and told me that the repair was finished. When I arrived, Joe played a CD to prove that the unit was working. A couple of days after I left the repair shop with the turntable, Joe called just to make sure that the turntable and the Bose CD player were working. It is unheard of to receive that level of service, especially for a repair shop. Joe is a true professional and his dedication to his craft is rare. I highly recommend Stone Electronics. read more

I brought a Toshiba SA-7150 monster receiver from 1978 into Stone electronics after reviewing all options in the LA area. I went with Stone because of its high quantity of 5 star reviews and it appeared, from the photos, that Joe had a lot of experience with vintage stereo items. I purchased the receiver originally on eBay and when I picked it up, the left channel was not making any sound. I attempted to clean it myself and upon opening, I noticed some hardware inside was missing which was a really bad sign. Someone else had messed with this receiver unfortunately. When I brought the item into Stone, Joe was immediately available to take a peak and give me a quote. The exchange was quick, I did it on my lunch break from work, and I was assured that if the total cost was heading over my budget that he would contact me before going through with it. The repair itself required acquiring pieces that are no longer manufactured and very hard to find. Somehow, Joe was able to do this. He installed and cleaned everything perfectly despite the receiver having one of the most complex constructions. I'm confident that the item will last a life time and I could not be more thrilled with the end result. read more
