A mile or so (technically a couple of kilometers) from the Cliffs of Moher is the Stonecutters Kitchen. A wonderfully picturesque bistro with spectacular views of the County Claire countryside along the Wild Atlantic Way. From the 100-year-old cottage that the restaurant is situated to the beautiful patio and deck around it, Stonecutters provides the ideal scenery if you're visiting the area when you want to enjoy some delicious cuisine. We started with a bottle of Sangiovese while I noshed on some homemade brown soda bread, which was divine with Irish butter. The seafood tagliatelle was delicious and creamy that I savored every bite between the mussels and prawns and squid. The banofee dessert was magical between the biscuit on the bottom topped with bananas and drizzled with caramel and topped with ice cream. Enjoying our meal amidst the glorious setting was equally as memorable, if not more. No pictures can do justice to just how breathtaking it is to enjoy a meal in such a beautiful setting. This has to be the place that coined the term "cozy" for real estate sales. Upon entering, you are standing next to the guest log book in the main dining room with around half a dozen tables & there's a "children's" dining room to the left: 3 tables, a high chair and a few toys. The bright yellow house, turned restaurant is easy to spot on the way to/from the Cliffs of Moher. You pull in to a small playground and a friendly dog roaming the grounds. This place is unusually kid-friendly, while not being child-centric, particularly given the size. By that, I mean, on entering the public toilet area, there is a nifty baby changing station - WITH supplies. Anyone who's had a child can relate this to a restroom having toilet paper! I found it to have very thoughtful touches like that, the special room & playground equipment - I also heard staff tell a patron that the kids get a toy to keep with their meal. I didn't view the kids menu, tho I heard a parent talking about some options with her child, including fish & every child's favorite fun food "spaghetti"! Adults were not forgotten- there were candles on the table and nicely plated meals and home-style options, with a lovely selection of wine and beet to choose from. The service was friendly and helpful- food was well seasoned and properly cooked: fingerling potatoes were crisp outside and tender inside. I can't even imagine a better restaurant for families with kids. A place for the kids to play outside, friendly service, and amazing food. The kids get little coins they can trade in for little prizes. They get more coins for choosing healthy options on the menu. The goat cheese salad was really fantastic. My husband had the burger and loved it too. Highly recommend! Fyi, the open/close times listed on yelp are wrong. We stumbled past this bright yellow stop after a few hours at the cliffs of moher and we LOVED it! Cozy, fresh, vegetarian friendly food served in such a warm environment. We ordered the vegan soup with a brie baguette (YUM), a side apple salad with house dressing (so fresh!), and cheesy garlic bread. For dessert we sampled the cake of the day which was a coffee-fresh cream- tiramisu concoction that was spellbinding. This restaurant is close to the Cliffs of Moher, which was one of the reasons we stopped here. The cafe itself is quite charming, they have little artifacts strewn about the converted cottage. It was really nice that in the restroom, they have a diaper changing station, but here's the kicker, they provide you free huggies diapers and wipes! Besides the charm and amenities, I didn't think the food was anything special. The fish cakes were decent, the guiness stew was way overcooked which made the meat extremely flaky, and the burger was quite dry. The fish and chips were good though. They also have a few craft beers in a bottle if you're thirsty. Service wasn't unfriendly, but the two girls running the restaurant seemed indifferent. This family-owned restaurant (which we love) is about a 10-min walk from the house we were staying at for our honeymoon. We came here today for lunch and love the idea that the owners converted this cottage into a restaurant. As we walked up, we noticed it is definitely family-friendly with the playground outside; so if you're in the area with your kids, bring 'em. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. The staff was so nice and ready to answer any of our questions. We love how they have daily vegetarian specials for lunch entrees and soups. My husband had a lentil burger with Mexican salsa, fries, and a side salad. I had fish and chips with fries and a side salad. Then, for dessert, I had homemade raspberry/white chocolate cheesecake. Needless to say, our plates were cleaned off. The food at this restaurant was so good. The hours are limited based on the time of year, so be sure to check their website for hours. There is free wi-fi. Toys are in the corner of the restaurant for children. Parking is available in the front of the restaurant. Stonecutter's is in the town of Doolin and close to the beautiful Cliffs of Moher. It's a yellow cottage that has been turned into a restaurant. It's right off the main road so you can't miss it. There is seating both inside and outside. Inside, the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server explained their menu and shared the specials which were written on chalkboards on the wall. My husband ordered the Guinness Stew and I ordered the mussels with a Moroccan broth. The menu does change seasonally with some staples. Our food was absolutely delicious. The broth for the mussels was flavorful with just the right amount of spice. My husband loved his stew as well. He said the meat and vegetables were tender and cooked perfectly. We ended our meal by sharing some local homemade ice cream. Yum! Service was very good throughout our meal. We traveled with a large group of 15 or so and had made a reservation over email. Karen was incredibly responsive and set us in a side room largely to ourselves. Upon arrival, the first thing we noticed was that they have an AMAZING play place for children out front (pirate ship swing set, etc.). We traveled with a 2 year old, and so that was a lovely surprise. The second thing was the location. Although Stonecutters is away from the main Doolin drag, it's perched adjacent to the Cliffs of Moher and has a stunning view of the west coast from the outside. The food itself was great. You're going to get traditional Irish fare on the menu, but we appreciated the vegetarian and gluten free options given some the dietary restrictions of our group. That's not always the case in rural Ireland. I had pork medallions served with an Irish whiskey/mustard hollandaise that was lovely and topped it off with a scrumptious apple crumble. Just off the road from the Cliff's of Mohere is a little home-like restaurant called Stone-cutters chicken. It's small, nothing fancy, but has some good food. After reading the reviews of others I gots the chowder with garlic bread. The chowder was amazing. I burnt my tongue because I was so impatient! The cheese garlic bread had great flavor, but wasn't really very crispy. If it was left in the oven for an extra minute it would have been perfect. My husband had the homemade Irish Burger with bacon and cheese. This two patty monster is very filling. However the side of mash was lacking. If they mixed in some garlic and butter it really would have helped. The staff was wonderful, and really is what made this a 4 star location. Almost missed this place when another Yelp listing showed it in a different place. But it's hard to miss this bright yellow house! My husband had a Beef burger special with mash. Beef was so tasty, based on the location, probably grass-fed. I had the Seafood Chowder which was very good. Irish bread and butter were excellent. All were good, but the main attraction for me was the chowder. Best chowder I've ever had. If you have room for dessert, try the Plum crumble. Idyllic, warm, friendly and tasty! Had lunch today with wife and two five year olds and wasn't let down! Met by friendly staff, even chef popped out to say hello! It's a bright and airy fun family spot with a playground out front and the ocean at your back, all the decor is yellow and red and easy on the eye. Straight away the kids were informed about the Skids which is little vouchers they get for behaving, choosing healthy and clearing their plate and can be redeemed against little trinkets on leaving. Genius! I went for a steak sandwich, the usual on ciabatta with fried onions but bit in and met with the delicious flavour of garlic instead of the usual horseradish! It was very tasty and tender and the menu tells you where the cow took his last dump, I was very impressed. She went for homemade broccoli soup and fresh soda bread, and it too was delish! This on is thinish but fine with sugar and milk. The burger was served with two patties served open face on the buns. I think best eaten with a knife and fork. Very tasty beef and good bacon. The mast was a bit dry. And a very large portion. Using the milk from the coffee made then fine. Later we used some of the large serving of butter that came with my wife's meal and they got better. Or more the way I like them. Ketchup was good. Maybe a little more vinegar than Heinz. My Stanard. Small with 5 or 6 tables. Friendly staff. My wife liked her chowder. This place was a great find after a long day hiking at the Cliffs of Moher. On our drive back from the cliffs, we passed this place with a big sign out front stating "Family Dining", so we stopped. Most places in Ireland are Pubs, so it was nice for a change since we had both the kids with us. They start with a great story for the kids about how they get tokens for healthier menu options, milk vs. soda, finish their meals etc., that they can spend on little toys and such. Very nice way to get kids thinking about what they are eating. Aside from that, the food was great! I got the fish and chips, and it was one of the best I've had during our trip. My wife had the vegetable bisque, and loved it as well. Kids got spaghetti with bolognese and ate it all. Topped the meal off with homemade ice-cream, and my daughter got the homemade cheesecake.
