I purchased a vehicle here for my son. I had my own financing from my local credit union. I informed the salesman of this. The day I picked up the vehicle he informed me during the completion of the paperwork that he had to do a soft credit inquiry verify my identity. I questioned this because I have a valid driver's license and was not applying for credit with them. He stated that this would not reflect on my credit report and if I didn't agree to this we couldn't proceed with the transaction. I think I got very lucky! Or I just did my homework and knew what I did (or did not want). Either reason is acceptable because I had the best experience at this dealership buying my new Passat. I first corresponded with Khalid for about two weeks while hoping and praying they still had the car I wanted available when I was able to pay the down payment for my new baby. It was such a quick and efficient experience. I was honestly dreading buying a new car because I have no patience and I'm a single women. But I'm a different type of chick and knew I needed to be very assertive from the start so I didn't have to deal with any nonsense. I was prepared to walk, even in the shortage, because respect is way too important to me. Never received a call, and just got sorrys when confronted. After going through telephone robot loops for a while. Finally was told they don't have access to their systems and that I need to call back during the week (which is when the original calls took place). I would not recommend purchasing a vehicle here, new or used. I purchased an '06 Outback that was beautifully advertised for $5,800 out the door. They had me sold. Over the course of only 4 weeks I noticed a major leak. A leak that is only noticeable after driving the vehicle a little bit longer than a test drive (which I did). Checked my oil -- none left. I was forced to have my mechanic check where the leak was coming from, and what do you know, it was a HEAD GASKET LEAK. There goes my car after only have driven it 4 weeks. Not to mention my mechanic had to do a transmission flush because it was extremely filthy. Not sure why STOHLMAN Subaru wouldn't at least do an oil change or check fluids before selling me this car? They did detail it beautifully. I guess doing a detail so my car looks pretty was more important than performing a basic oil change, changing transmission fluid, or disclosing a head gasket leak. STOHLMAN Subaru sold me a vehicle with a known head gasket leak. I know this to be true because when I called the used car sales manager, all he said was, "You bought it as is. Mechanic special." Geez, great customer service, A+ for you "Russ". Nowhere in the online advertisement or any papers I signed did it say specifically, "Mechanic Special" as Russ stated. That tells me they knew about the leak, and proceeded to sell me the vehicle without ever disclosing such a major mechanical flaw. Extremely unethical business practices. I called their service department and they quoted me over $5K to fix. Unbelievable. When my Subaru dies, I know where I'm NOT going for my next vehicle. STOHLMAN SUBARU. To my own demise, I had put my trust in the STOHLMAN Subaru dealership name. I figured that STOHLMAN Subaru would have the decency to disclose such a major mechanical flaw like a head gasket lead at the time of purchase. I was completely wrong. My review is informed by the fact I visited or spoke with 8-9 dealerships in the area while trying to find a car in my budget. While I didn't end up purchasing here, I had a great experience and would recommend shopping here. I had a salesman named Patrick who was very helpful, taught me what I wanted to know about the car without being overwhelming. Some sales people just rattle off every last fact about the car, it's annoying, but Patrick wasn't that guy. Focused, no BS. He was good people. Highly recommend looking up Patrick and seeing him first. Great backroads in Tyson's to go test driving. They are very reasonable on price and the most covid cautious dealership I visited. I really would have liked to buy from them but by the time December rolled around they didn't have the inventory I wanted. I waited too long so that's on me. I had an excellent experience buying an ID.4 at Stohlman. The salesman, Jose, was friendly, helpful, and never pressured. I was impressed that although due to supply chain issues, the car arrived a year after I made the reservation, he held to the original price. Service has been a nightmare. During the last year, I tried 6 times to schedule service--including recalls. My online chat requests ended with "I'll get back to you." Never happened. Once. For the second recall, I managed to leave a voicemail for the service manager. No response. After three days, I went in person. He said he was down two men. I asked him how long it took to make a phone call. I got a couple of emails from Volkswagen recently about maintenance. One wanted $535 for inspecting seals and bearings on a one-year-old car. The second one didn't specify anything. Asked online. No response online in a week. I went in person. The sales manager was, of course, not there. I've been really looking into a Volkswagen as my next vehicle. I decided to stop into this dealership to see the various models and make a selection. We walked the parking lot to look at the inventory. Two men who appeared to work here walked past us. We decided to go into the showroom hoping someone would come and work with us. The children got into the model on the floor- switched seats to test out the comfort. We opened the trunk and moved the seats around. Popped the hood and looked the vehicle over several times. After close to 20-25 minutes, I noticed salesmen standing around and watching us...... but no one came over to offer assistance or sell a car. When we left, my sister mentioned to a sales manager that we were leaving because no one helped us. I'm not sure if we looked ... I'd rather not assume discrimination, but I won't be back. Took my car in for repair. Two things were not working air and wiper motor. At first, they wanted to charge me $194 TWICE to look at each problem. The wiper motor was loud and slow, so there was no reason to charge me for that assessment, so I told them just to diagnose the air. He called me back with a $3600 quote. They apparently decided to check the whole car, additionally finding an "oil leak in the vacuum system." I told him I had not seen any oil on my driveway and he said it was all internal. He said they would not even sell a car with those problems and that VW would buy it for $500 and then scrap it. I told him I was going to pick the car up. When my daughter went to pick the car up it would not start, the battery was dead; there had been no problems with the battery. She told them about the problem and they said the alternator was broken and they would need to fix it before she could drive it home. Apparently the car not starting was a small fact not noticed during the in depth diagnosis. They were then rude when the tow truck came and refused to help her move the car out of the garage. In fact the tow truck driver had to tell them, a couple of times, to move as they were standing in front of the car as as he was punching the car by himself. WE BOUGHT OUR CAR AT STOLMANS AND USED THEY SELL FOR 8-11 THOUSAND DOLLARS. When it arrived at a local garage I told him what happened and the quote and he asked if they offered to buy it for $500!! THERE WAS NO OIL LEAK. I have never felt more scammed in my life. If you have an existing warranty certainly take your car to them as there is little motivation for them to scam you. But if your car is out of warranty take your car at your own risk, buyer beware! read more

Still waiting and it has been almost 2.5 hours. The service tech said they got busy. My car has been completed for at least 30 minutes. I watch them parked it. Got my key back without my key chain. My sister got a car here a couple years ago and loves her car but the experience wasn't her favorite, today totally made up for that. I purchased the vehicle in December 2019 stock # 8616 for it to be shipped out of state. Once the car arrived, a few weeks later, it only had one key which was NEVER disclosed. Recently, it had to go back to another VW dealership to get the air conditioner recharged, a new battery, and the two rear leaf springs replaced. I am a two time repeat customer and completely disappointed in the service of the dealership and the salesperson Sam Estaniss. So far this certified and fully "inspected" vehicle has cost me an additional $1,800 USD out of pocket. I'm writing this because I recently had my car serviced, under warranty, at another volkawagon and the experience was night and day. I am a new car owner and this is my first vehicle under warranty. I wasn't aware of how the service should be and volkswagon of Tyson's set a bad example for the types of service you should get under warranty. My car was a dud, I drove it off the lot with a faulty air conditioning system. I took it in and asked to get it fixed. Mike was the service technician assigned to me. They fixed it, I was happy, drove it for a month and it broke again... not a good sign. Took it back in, serviced again by mike and again the air conditioning broke. Took it in AGAIN and inquired about the problem. He said it was a manufacturing issue, I asked how can it be fixed and not patched? I did not want to pay for this later on when my car was out of warranty. He said there was nothing he could do, just patch it. I pushed back on this and he continued to disregard the ask of fixing the issue, it is after all their responsibility. But nothing came of it and my frustration grew. Once again, my air conditioning broke- I took it in and was told by mike that he wasn't going to fix it because it's cold outside and I don't need air conditioning.... I was shocked and livid! I felt that because I was a young female who'd never lived through this new car experience that he would take advantage of that nativity. I since have moved and went to another volkswagon and WOW was my experience complete opposite. First time around they found a HOLE in my air conditioning- something not mentioned to me by mike at Tyson's! They ordered a new part and fixed it immediately. I now live with an air conditioning unit that blows cold air and what's better is I now LOVE my car instead of seeing it as a giant mistake. Service matters, people don't make these large purchases lightly and when they feel they've made a mistake that's when companies lose money. I was at my wits end and almost returned my vehicle and would have been put off ever purchasing another VW again. This is our second new Volkswagen from Stohlman, and we couldn't be happier. Both experiences (2012, 2018) were transparent and easy -- something that's relatively rare in the car-buying world! We bought a TDI (diesel) in 2012, so when it came time to trade it in, we wanted a similar vehicle (minus emissions). After researching, we came across a current VW model that seemed to fit the bill. We weren't feeling incredibly loyal to VW after the whole 'dieselgate' scandal, so we signed up to get USAA offers from area dealers within a 100 mile radius. We got dozens of email offers and met with a handful over the course of a few weeks. (This was a luxury that was new to us -- we hadn't had before, usually we had to replace a vehicle ASAP!) NONE were as transparent as Stohlman, which truly rose to the top. We had met with almost every Northern VA VW dealer and corresponded with most DC-MD-VA dealers via email before we ended up back at Stohlman. Stohlman was truly the very best deal, and 100% transparent about the cost up front. Many other dealers had "internet pricing" that was deceiving, or they wouldn't put an "offer" in writing via email (even after meeting face to face). Stohlman cut through all of that. If you're looking to save time, just cut to the chase and contact them and save yourself a few hours of hassle. I honestly can't believe some of the prices we were quoted (in person and online!) at other area VW dealers! Paul Turk was a great salesman - he was completely honest and open and super easy to get a hold of, even on his days off. We encountered a minor snag in our purchase, and it was easily resolved by the sales manager, Kenny Smith. They most definitely went the 'extra mile' to make sure we were happy with our final purchase! I would also add that we felt zero pressure to buy, unlike what was referenced in previous reviews. This may reflect the fact we didn't need to buy ASAP and we were buying a new VW -- but it was extremely refreshing not to feel pressured to buy. (Other dealers were emailing DAILY that the specific vehicle we wanted would be gone if we did not put down a deposit on it). It's been a month since our purchase and we're 100% happy and confident in our decision for the second time at Stohlman VW. I would not hesitate to recommend them to a friend! If you're looking for the best offer in the DC area for a new VW, don't waste your time. Just email Stohlman (and one other dealer -- any VW dealer -- that'll prove they are the best!)!!! I just bought a brand new VW GTI here a little over 2 weeks ago and noticed that I had scratches on my left rear window. I actually was getting my car tinted and didn't notice that I had scratches till the next day, I immediately got the tint removed and noticed that there were scratches on the inside (tints are cut on the outside). I take my car back to Stohlman as they should be replacing the window since its a new car. I wait about 30 minutes before actually being able to speak with a manager. The manager walks with me to my car and 30 seconds later he says we can't replace it because the car is too old (how is 2 weeks old?) and you should've noticed the scratches upon delivery and you decide to come to us 2 weeks later. I live by myself and walk to work most days so I don't use the car unless I'm running errands or going out on the weekends. You also can't see the scratches unless you are from the inside or looking at it from an angle with a very dark background. How would I be able to see the scratches if I don't sit in the back? You would assume that a "trusted" dealership would offer you a clean and damaged free car, but no. I now have to replace the window out of pocket because Stohlman doesn't care for their customers after a sale is done. I would avoid this dealership at all costs, if you really have to come here to buy a car, the sales associate Will was very helpful. If I could return the car and buy it elsewhere I would. Update: I was recently told by VW Corporate that these dealers are independent and I will not be covered under corporate, which is absurd. I was offered from the dealership an internal cost to fix the window and it approximated $635 before taxes. I contacted 2 other dealerships nearby and they gave me a price that was 40% less without even telling them about the situation!!!!, so much for trying to help others with an "internal" cost, when they are clearly taking your money for no reason. Not a great experience. I normally use my trusty local mechanic, but was forced to go to this dealership due to an airbag system issue he wouldn't address. Stohlman charged nearly $700 to replace a sensor in the system, an unbelievable charge. Unfortunately, when I got home after the repair I discovered my rearview camera didn't work, the electronic latch on my trunk was dead and there was an error message in the "ParkPilot" system. I had to go back to Stohlman to fix the mess. Not a great first experience. PART TWO: So, I bring the car back. After assessing the situation, Stohlman tells me these problems have nothing to do with my earlier repair and I need to pay nearly $1,300 to have a wiring harness replaced. I'm stunned, disbelieving and suspicious. I ask to speak with the service manager. Several hours later I get a call from the service desk telling me the service manager put another mechanic on the case who discovered THE PROBLEM WAS A BLOWN FUSE. There never was a faulty wiring harness. I didn't get an apology. I never heard from the service manager. At best this was incompetence; At worst they were trying to knowingly charge me for service I didn't need. I can only imagine if my daughter had brought her car in. Also, I'm very curious what they would have told me if I'd paid the $1,300 and after they made the repair they'd then discovered it was only a fuse. I'd avoid this place. read more

DON'T BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP!!! Please read this review!! I bought a 2022 Taos ( a newer model compact SUV). I bought this vehicle in July 2021. Since purchasing this vehicle I have had many recall repairs on the car; aside from this, I recently complained about a safety issue I never witnessed before. The car reverses while I'm in drive. I immediately called the manufacturer and I was shown ZERO concern or empathy. They told me to go to the dealer to get a diagnosis. I did just that. I was then told by Stohlman's service consultant Sam, that there is nothing wrong with the car. Two days after receiving my vehicle, my car completely STOPS in the middle of the highway, the car proceeds to tell me to turn on the engine before starting the car....while I'm in drive??? I record this and explain to the dealership once again this car has safety issues and can cause my family and I danger. I spoke to Steve, the Manager, and he assured me he will try to help with this issue. I have yet to receive calls from anyone and their lack of concern is appalling. I have left voicemails, and emails to corporate with no follow-up. I will have to file a complaint with the business bureau as this is NOT how you do business. PLEASE DON'T GO HERE. read more

I'd rather drive an extra hour to get better service. Stohlman dealership HAD great sales and those people left. I was happy with their service department, but the key is WAS. I chose to drive an hour everytime just to do my smallest maintenance instead of going to lindsay 5 minutes from my house, but they failed to keep a long time customer. Their warranty advisor is so unreasonable and says no just because she wants to with no real reason, mario did very well before with my service, but with a simple CPO warranty issue, both mario and the service director failed to give good customer service, reasonbale rejection, and they kept sending me around for weeks to avoid the issue. Worst car service I've ever seen. Such a very low disrespect and misleading to your customers. When we made the prepaid maintenance deal when we purchased the car, it was mentioned that eveythjng will be covered including the tire rotation and when I explained this to the service rep/advisor David V. (Worst customer service He simply said "sorry about that! The service advisor's attitude is the worst, Is he giving attitude to his valuable customers? Really? I have never seen a negative and bad attitude like I have experienced. David V. Was not listening to me or looking at me and interrupting my talk. He didn't show me the waiting areas, he didn't introduce me to the complementary hot drinks area. When I asked him I need help setting up the Sirius sevice he said " this not me this is sales" Very disrespective and the worst attitude I've ever seen in dealerships. I would never recommend dealing with this person or to do your car service there and I know friends who go to this location and I will tell them to avoid dealing with this person at least. And they also removed my old state inspection to put the new one in the corner of my windshield but left my windshield all scratched. Toyota don't do that at least! Today I had a scheduled test drive appointment at 9am to drive a 2018 Golf R as a possible replacement for my 2012 GTI. The guy was a no show as of 10am and I've been waiting since 9 (my current car in service bay). I asked the receptionist if somebody else could help me. She walked around, talked to people, came back and said nothing to me. I figured she was calling around or something. When I saw her shuffling papers I asked what was up and she said nobody was available. Would have been nice if she told me that. I was then told they don't allow test drives of golf Rs. This company does not even deserve 1 star review we purchase the car on Feb 6th 2018 and here it is June 14 th 2018 still do not have registration and now they will not even send new paper plates. Called on Monday they said plates were ready so we went to court house and spent 2 hours at the court house to find out they have submitted the wrong paper work 2 times. So now 3 months have gone by and now we have to go and get a new inspection since the one we received the day we bought the car is now expired. Go somewhere else to buy your car the people do not take care of there side of the sale or thier customer. read more
