Mark came over to check out my chimney this past winter. It had been used infrequently in the 8 years that we've owned the house and last winter smoke didn't seem to be drafting up and out the chimney properly. I wanted to be able to use it this year but, alas, Mark diagnosed that the flue is way too small to have been used at all! (The house is over 100 years old...) He recommended a gas insert and he did a great job cleaning it as well as he could. Obviously, not the news I wanted to hear. I had some major repairs done to my chimney (both inside and outside), and was very impressed with Chris and his team, and also with Mark who did the initial bid. Mark took lots of pictures of the inside and outside of the chimney so I could see in detail the areas that needed repair. During pandemic times when you need to limit the amount of people in your home, I felt safe with his team as they wore masks while inside and limited their contact to the fireplace itself. They showed up when they said they were going to show up, did the job correctly the first time and did a good job cleaning up everything afterwards. I contracted STL Chimney to install a gas insert in an existing fireplace. They did all of the necessary repairs, including install of a more secure chimney top. During the process, we ran in to several snags - there was a lot of coordination which needed to happen between them, the certified gas (plumbing) guy, and the electrician. A few missteps occurred during this process. However, Chris took full and absolute responsibility for all of it. He was the consummate professional. In the end, I got exactly what I needed and the insert is in and looks fantastic. He possesses extreme attention to detail and his guys have great technical proficiencies - from design to repairs, to even masonry skills. They did a wonderful job. read more

They called before leaving, arrived 5 min early, and finished 10 minutes before they estimated. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. First I will say they sent me the wrong inception report which i called and let them know and i was sent the corrected one but then they refunded our money even though we did not ask for it even though we needed a proof of payment receipt for our home buyer's (the ENTIRE reason for needing to do any of this at all. Then on to the worst part.. the inspector Mark (nice and honest guy) told us that the issues were fairly minor but unfortunately their company wouldn't take care of the type of work we would need done due to the age of the fireplace. Then i receive a quote for almost $4,000 from the owner claiming our only option is total replacement. What a scam. I get you need to make money but you are screwing people over. How do i know this? I had another company come out and we had to fix one thing which he fixed in 20 minutes and passed our inspection entirely. Now you tell me how that adds up. DON'T CALL THESE PEOPLE. read more

My mother was impressed with the quality of the work and how detailed they were with covering up everything with tarps to protect our furniture. This was our first time using Stl Chimney. They came out for a cleaning and inspection. They were very friendly and did an amazing job cleaning the chimney. There were some items that needed repair. We then agreed that they would send me 1 quote for repairs and 1 quote to replace the entire unit. A couple weeks go by and I had yet to receive either quote. I then called them to leave a message for someone to call me back. A few days went by with no return phone call. I then called back again and the person on the other line said that they would call me back that same day. Instead of a phone call back, I received an email with 1 quote(to replace the whole unit- approximately $3900). With complete disappointment in this charade, I replied back to that email asking for the second agreed upon quote. To this day, still no quote for repairs. Long story short, I will be doing business elsewhere. read more

Chris and his crew just finished installing a new liner and top lock damper. They were in the middle price wise out of three estimates I got, but by far the most exceptional and I made the right choice. Chris even included screen for the fireplace when we told him the fireplace looked better without this old, eighties looking glass/screen that was installed. This was in the middle the project and Chris could have said no and rightfully so since we didn't build that into the original price. The whole crew was very friendly and respectful.
