The food is ok however it's dirty. The last time I went the floor was extremely sticky. Then when I went a year ago we had a large group of people to go but the restaurant was about to close. At the very end while we were still there the man came to clean out the grease pan. The smell was so terrible I almost threw up. read more

Can't only give 1 star because of the food, it was prepared well! The service until you get until you actually get seated is atrocious. The hostess at the front is annoyed that you walked through the door and inconvenienced her from looking at her phone. Be prepared to be ignored for your 15 minute wait until you're seated 40 minutes later. Every time. read more

Go here if you want to get some serious food poisoning. The thought of the salad dressing after coming here made me throw up viciously. The bang bang chicken is DISGUSTING, writing this review makes me want to throw up again. Fried rice is too much, waiters spill water and can't get orders right, I do not recommend stix unless you want to feel sick for the rest of the month. read more

Found maggots in my rice. DISGUSTING. AND it was my bday dinner. Never come here!!! Hostess took 2hrs to sit us for our bday reservation.

The service here suck the managers are extremely rude and if you call to do a complaint nothing or nobody will resolve the issue

Run-of-the-mill Hibachi. We came in at 2:30 on a Saturday and was told that we'd have to wait a few minutes because of shift change. I didn't really understand why a place that doesn't serve breakfast is having a shift change at that time of day but in the end the service and food was good. read more

Me and my wife(2 people)Waited an hour and watched 3 large parties come in after us and be seated before us. They apologized and we still could not be seated right away. Not a good experience when you are super hungry. We also witnessed another couple being skipped over. Seems they prefer to take larger groups over smaller parties. read more

Went to Stix for the first time last night. We wanted to sit on the hibachi side. It was a Thursday night around 7:30, so we thought it would not be that busy. We were told the wait was 25-30 minutes. We waited about 10 before we were seated in the back room. There we already 6 people waiting at our table. The lady next to where I was going to sit, saw us coming and grabbed my plate. The hostess explained that to her that she already had a plate. She took the plate from the lady and placed It back in my spot. That is when we should have left! I traded my plate with another next to my daughters place. Then I felt bad for the guy who sat down in that spot a few minutes late. However I realized during ordering that the woman next to me had a really bad cold and kept coughing. ( happy I moved the plate). I finally look around at our table. We were in a dark corner by the kitchen and by that I mean I could see into the kitchen window the whole time we were there. The table across from us had a very dirty/stained cooking surface, they obviously don't use that table. The edge of the table had plates stacked at least 10 plates high all around. I guess that is the plate storage table? Now comes the fun, our server shows up and wants to take drink and appetizer orders. I was cold, so I ordered a hot jasmine tea with sugar and cream. Our waiter didn't understand what I wanted, so I repeated myself. He didn't know what cream for my tea was, so I had to explain that it was milk for my tea! "Oh creamer, yeah we call that creamer" was the response I got. I then ordered a shrimp tempura appetizer. Everyone else at our table ordered sushi and he thought that was what I wanted. I had to point at the item on the menu to get what I wanted. I asked what veggies came with that and was told "none". Not looking good for the server either! He returns several times with different drinks. No sugar, a dish of honey instead and a few plastic cups of creamer. We placed our order. My daughter and I were not very hungry , so we shared the shrimp and lobster $32 plus another $8 for sharing. Our shrimp tempura shows up, 4 long shrimp on a plate and I promise you it was the same kind I get at Publix in the frozen section. Salad and soup both came at the same time. And here come the chef! I couldn't tell you his name. He never introduced himself and was not wearing a name tag. He was really sweaty and when I obviously noticed he commented that cooking over the tables makes you very sweaty. He never wiped his face or brow with a cloth, so we will just say that the drips of sweat were part of his seasoning ( yuck)! Most restaurants of this style always start with a shrimp appetizer. Not here they don't. You don't get one! He started with the fried rice. Flipping his utensils around his fingers several times to be showy. He had a few tricks, but didn't talk to any of us or try to really engage us in his show. He made enough fried rice to feed a small village. Everyone's plate was more than half way covered in rice. Next came the veggies. Again so many veggies that I now could not see the bottom of my plate for the rice and veggies. He then put All the meats on the grill. I had a feeling this was not going to turn out well. He went straight for the steaks first. After everyone got their steak, he started on the lobster. It already looked like rubber. He kept looking at it, like he knew he had messed up. But he kept cooking it bad just added a little sauce to it. Then came the over cooked shrimp. Again, you could see them burning on the grill, so he added some sauce. The people that had ordered chicken ( mainly the two 4 year olds) had been waiting to eat, received their chicken last! Our shrimp and lobster were by far the worst I have ever had!!! If anyone would have asked how our food was I would have told them. However no one asked. I think they knew. Our check suddenly appeared without asking for dessert orders. We paid and got the heck out! And we won't be back! We regularly eat at Japanese hibachi steak houses. The best by far will always be Benihana. We have NEVER had a bad meal at one. This place should go get some lessons. I feel like it was a complete waste of money and time. Stay away! read more

Ok sushi and ok hibachi. Nothing I'd go out of my way for. Definitely overpriced for the quality. This is a place to go if you want to spend a lot of money on a date but not care about the quality. It's like the Olive Garden of sushi. read more

The place is dirty when u touched any thing u feel like oily, The taste of the food is different every time sometimes is ok sometimes I heated but the last time was very very bad the rice was fried more than the normal with seared eggs and the chicken and shrimp cooked by steaming with extra black sauce in the same place , same taste shrimp like chicken like beef one and only taste the black sauce, I think the Hawaiian old team were perfect They change the stuff, It was my last and never been there again read more

Water tasted terrible, hibachi chicken was cold and dried out, hibachi steak was very tough could have had better steak from Taco Bell. The service was absolutely horrible. I worked in the restaurant industry for 8 years, everything from busboy to managing. The lady was not respectful or attentive. She gave us the wrong check, told us it was the right check and I had to argue with her we only had 2 meals when the check she gave us had 5 meals on it?? It was just my fiancé and myself eating alone! This was the worst Japanese steakhouse I have ever eaten at and will most definitely not be back. You can literally eat anywhere else and get better food than this place. Very disappointed with my experience, but I know a lot of people love to eat at places with a popular name. read more

I know a Stix diner can't expect to get a comedian and entertainer at every meal, but I have never had a chef speak about 10 total words the entire time. No banter, no show, he just threw the food on the grill and left at the end. He wasted so much rice slopping it onto our plates. A big disappointment for a birthday celebration and a $100 tab. Prices seem to have gone way up, and it's just not worth it. read more

The wait times are off to say the least but, good food and presentation. The service was top notch just the greeters need to get a better idea of wait times. read more

Our family had dinner at Stix in Hoover, Alabama, about two weeks ago. We got there shortly before the restaurant opened at 11 a.m. and were seated as soon as seating was opened. The service was very good; I would say excellent but they were a bit slow on drink refills. The food was delicious and overall the staff is very pleasant to deal with. The restrooms were a bit messy, especially given the restaurant had just opened. There was toilet paper on the floor and the sinks and counter did not look cleaned. The sinks and plumbing appear to need an update or some repair. Otherwise, the visit was enjoyable. We sat in the dining room, but the Hibachi grill at Stix is generally a great place to go if you have a large party or special occasion. They don't usually disappoint. read more

Great job. The bartender made amazing drinks. The food was really fresh and hot. The service from the bartender was great. The host greeted us with a smile when we first walked through the door. read more

We went with a large group to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We made reservations earlier in the day and were seated right away. The food was good and the cook was lots of fun, but we couldn't enjoy our dinner because the restaurant was so hot! This is the second time I've had this happen. I don't think I'll be going back! read more

I was one of Stix' biggest customers. I loved their food and I continued to keep going back. I had an issue with my food due to it being wrote down incorrectly and I mentioned this. The manager came over and told me that what the employee wrote down was correct and that I had to pay for it. I became upset with this manager and told him that I was one of his biggest customers m. I explained to him what happened again and when he could care less to hear me out I stated that I didn't care to come back again. He stated "ok that's fine with me" I recently ran across a post on Facebook from one of my friends who stated they found bugs in Thor food and this same manager stated "it came from the other side of the kitchen, so we don't have as many dealings with that side" Say what??? I could not believe what he said! They were told they STILL had to pay for their food! This is one place that is going down hill fast. I hate that since it was one of my favorite places to go. Just beware of what is going on there and don't have any dealings with the manager because he could care less about his customers. Just FYI. read more

Dined here tonight and was disappointed to find a cockroach in my rice. I alerted the manger on duty (Jayee Chen) and am disappointed that he was unwilling to remedy this disturbing experience. Please check your food when dining at this location. read more

DONT BOTHER making reservations at this place. They mean nothing. We showed up on time but waited an hour and had to leave. The hosts are incompetent, rude, and have no idea how to deal with customers. Spend your $100+ at SUMO. read more

I used to eat at this place once a week but they have gone down hill lately. Tonight's meal consisted of over cooked rice burnt shrimp and burnt steak. (Ordered med rare) we let the manager know and still paid 51 dollars for food that I won't give my dog. Guess it's time to find a new Japanese restaurant. read more

We came for happy hour. The cosmopolitan was pretty descent. Lettuce wrap and seaweed salad were good but the sushi was mediocre, at best. . We had the tiger roll and the Bama roll. Definitely nothing to be thrilled about. It had very little shrimp and salmon and I thought a little too much of the crunchy stuff. It I come back here it certainly won't be for the sushi. read more

The food is decent... nothing special. Very overpriced for the portion size... especially if you order take out. I was sat at a table with a rat (yes, a dead rat) in the corner. It was possibly the grossest thing I'd ever seen, and our server admitted that they do in fact have a rodent problem. The floor was very dirty, the service was mediocre at best, and there was a FLY in my food! I was so disgusted after seeing the rat and the fly in my food. I spoke with a manager about it, and all he did was say I'm sorry, you should come back another time and I promise you'll have a better experience. An apology... that was all. I had to pay full price for an entree with a bug in it. Absolutely ridiculous and disgusting. Customer service, cleanliness, quality... none of these are their strong suit. I'm not sure they have one. read more

Amazing food and drinks! The crab, California roll, and bang bang chicken were to die for!!! Waitstaff was very friendly...the only thing I wasn't a fan of was the chicken fried rice. Other than that I strongly recommend!!! read more

This really isnt a review, it's more of a reply to Jennifer B's review....first of all she calls Alabama an "abomination" yet she lives in SMYRNA GEORGIA....I find that hilarious.....There is nothing in Smyrna but hicks. I used to live in Atlanta & Savannah, so I do know....She obviously knows nothing about Alabama, because Stix is what I would call the "fast-food" version of Japanese....try Kobe, venture out of your apartment. You act as if people from Alabama are aliens, while once again I point out the fact that you list that you are from SMYRNA...lol...where there are 4 Japanese hole in the wall places in strip malls....You need to get your head out of your ass, & stop being disrespectful of a state with plenty of culture and class. It isn't our fault that you chose to probably live in a ghetto neighborhood, with low-budget friends, and didn't know of the real gems that Alabama has to offer...thank god you are back in your rathole town.... read more

For my family and I when we think of the Japanese Steakhouse we associate it with a full filled night. I have 4 kids all under the age of 9. The experience of the egg toss, the volcano, and the train are all awesome displays. Well tonight was all but a thrill. The cook did absolutely nothing!!!! There was a party of 2 who joined us who also stated "with 4 kids tonight we were sure to have a good show". That's not all the cook was obviously sick continually coughing, my wife ordered a appetizer that showed up late and under cooked. We returned the appetizer but was uneasy to requested another one instead asking for it to be removed. So now it bill time nothing else could go wrong right WRONG!!! I never really ask for money off I just appreciate good service. We get the bill and they added gratuity in the amount of the removed appetizer. So I ask at what point do you add Gratuity the response was 6 or more. "Wow so I have gratuity for a 18 month old child that was fed from our plate" The waiter ask the manager and he said yes WOW!!! Cool here is the payment. After paying I expressed this to the manager and how they may have lost a customer. He removes just the gratuity. I am still very unhappy with a very poor customer service and overall experience. He returns for me to pay so I didn't include a tip. He questions me so we are not leaving a tip. "Sir you will never see me again" The sad part is I have been a loyal customer upwards of 10 times or better and no I will not ever go back. Customer service was horrible. read more

I do not recommend this place for sushi. The shrimp was very rubbery as well as the sea weed. Very dry. The portion was very small.

The service and cleanliness was poor! Also at the end of our dinner there was a giant roach running around the restaurant close to my foot. The manager dealt with the situation poorly I would never return to this location ever again. read more

My boyfriend and I ate there recently, and even though we BOTH found hair in our food, and showed the hair to our waiter, when we told the manager she aced as if she did not believe us. From the hostess to the general manager Stix completely ruined my Mother's Day experience. I understand restaurant's are busy on holidays but the way they treated us was unacceptable! When we arrive we were told it was a 35 minute wait. After waiting 45 minutes I went to inquire on the wait time only to find out we had been scratched off the list. We were sitting just outside the entrance door where they have additional waiting area seats. The hostess told us she would seat us next. I was unhappy but it was too late to go elsewhere. I then complained to the manager about their process and he was rude ass hell as if he didn't even care that we would be late to our next destination saying " The hostess just calls out the name and usually you should hear it" as if it's my fault they need to invest in a paging system for when the restaurant is busy! When I get sick of talking to him he tells me there is no one else to talk regarding the matter. I ask for the owner's name and he tells me no again so I guess I'll tell the world YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! read more

I just left stix in Hoover Alabama before they closed at 2 and the customer service was poor ...The waitress got the order wrong and she didn't offer any refills so at the end of the visit I asked for a refill and brought it to me so I then asked for a to go water and she brought me a empty cup and lid so then I asked if I can have water in it and then she asked me did I not want the water that she brought from my refill ... When I usually come they put my food in to go boxes for me and offer me a fortune cookie ... She did not box my food up she didn't offer any to go boxes she sat them in the middle of the table then I asked for a bag and she told me that I can get it on the way out .... Before I left the table she clocked out and left like she had somewhere to be ... So I asked to speak to the manager after he just walked by so I waited until like 45 minutes just to speak with him and they come and tell me that he is gone ... So now I'm really angry .... Telling you guys about my terrible visit ... Now don't get me wrong the food is great and I eat there all the time but today was my worse experience... read more
