Stix has been a family favorite for almost 20 years now! My oldest daughter wanted to come here each year for her birthday, and then my son took up the tradition on his birthdays as well. The hibachi is always delicious. I've tried the steak, shrimp, salmon, and scallops and everything is fresh and tasty and cooked to perfection in front of you. I also enjoy the fried rice and vegetables. The sushi is also delicious. My son always gets the California roll, but my favorite is either the red Dragon roll or the New Orleans roll, which comes covered in tempura flakes and pieces of crawfish... Scrumptious! I really do love this restaurant. So many good memories here. Check them out on your next birthday! read more

I used to love this place and after recently moving back to AL, was excited to go back but left very disappointed. Service was ok (friendly server) but food arrived cold. They didn't have any sushi available which was a surprise too...not sure if that was just a weeknight thing. It was also uncomfortably warm inside like the AC wasn't on or was set too high. All in all, it was just not great which is sad because it used to be amazingly good and it seems to have gone downhill... read more

I had the sweet and sour chicken and it was excellent! I can't say enough about it, the flavor was on point and it was a nice serving size. The waitress was very polite and she made sure that me and my family had everything that we needed. read more

When we first entered the location, we were greeted by a very nice waitress. The bathrooms were right in the front, and they were very clean. We stopped in just to get a few sushi rolls. I got the veggie roll, which was delicious, and our server surprised us with a second row. This is a must-stop if you're in the Hoover location. read more

Huge place with great ambience. Great service and the sushi was fresh and fast! A full bar also, if you're having a get together.

Service was better than in the past. Not much of a wait. We ate at the Chinese side because the hibachi area was very hot. Booths are super tight for anyone larger One of our menus was really filthy Silverware only included a fork and no knife. Server was kind, big drinks and straws set out already. Small plate set out with appetizers Portions were minuscule in comparison to the price read more

Reopened under new management. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived and were seated at 6:15. I was surprised by how unprepared they seemed to be for dinner. We were short a plate and asked for one but it just didn't seem to happen so we grabbed one from the other table. There weren't any napkins or silverware on the table yet so we asked for those. The server asked if it was ok if we just used plastic. If I'm spending 30 some dollars for hibachi, I want to eat it with a real fork, not a tiny plastic one. She also handed out paper napkins instead of the cloth ones and the paper napkins were bar napkins not even full size ones. The wait for a chef to cook our food was very long. I was thankful I ordered the spring roll appetizers. Those who ordered sushi, got their rolls quick. I was sorry I didn't order that as I mine didn't arrive till the chef finally did. The soup and salads didn't even seem to be ready and we had to wait a long time for those a well. Needless to say I was getting hangry after over an hour wait for food. Our chef was very nice and kept apologizing for our grill as it didn't seem to be working properly. Once we started getting food, I was happy. My spring rolls were very good. The fried rice was excellent. My chicken and veggies were good as well. My shrimp was another story. Some of the pieces were very fishy and tasted old. I wound up throwing them out when I got home and just eating the leftover chicken the next day. We will try again and hope for a better experience. I'm hoping this is just new owner pains and it will improve. read more

Service was awful brought drinks and never came back. The food had no soy or teriyaki. Food was cooked with Scollops. Fishy. Cook was boring. Didn't speak at all but to confirm orders and throw chicken. read more

It was good. Basic hibachi grill, complete with flaming onions and a good time. Good for date or groups. They sit you at a large table with others. Chef puts on a show. I notice uneven portions of rice and veg given to folks but hey, that's life. Cocktail just ok. I'd eat here again. Walkable from hotel in Galleria. read more

The food was tasteless!!!! No seasoning and cooked to a crisp. Do not spend your money.

I absolutely love this place. The wait can be kind of tedious, but it's with it. We came here on a Sunday for my nephews birthday. The wait was about 45 minutes for the hibachi side. Let's talk about portion size. OMG you with plenty of leftovers. I ordered a kids shrimp meal for my daughter and as you can see in the picture it looks like an adult plate! The sushi is always good here to. If you come on the weekends be prepared for a wait, but like I said the entertainment is well worth it! read more

3 stars = good service, high lunch prices Came here for lunch, after realizing that YUKI on 150 is closed on Mondays. I really wanted sushi and dumplings. I ordered both along with Udon noodles with chicken. The lunch options and prices could be more competitive. I wish they offered bento boxes during lunch. The sushi was ok... the dumplings were delish. The udon noodles were awful and gummy. Yuck! The chicken in them was tender and flavorful. Mediocre at best for a $28 lunch total. Server and staff were nice and we were seated promptly. read more

This is my all time favorite hibachi restaurant. I've been eating here for around 13 years and the service has always been top notch. They have a Chinese and a Japanese (hibachi) side to the restaurant. A pro tip: if you love hibachi but have seen the show too many times, if you don't like eating with strangers or if you're tired of the chefs throwing shrimp at your face. I'd suggest going to the Chinese side where it's normal booth seating and ordering hibachi from there. They prepare it in the kitchen and bring it out to you as a finished product. I've tried everything on the hibachi menu. Everything is delicious but when I want to splurge, my go to is fillet and scallops. Don't forget to ask for yum yum sauce (orange). It makes the meal for me. read more

Stopped here in on Sunday to have dinner with the family and I wasn't sure of what to expect. Other restaurants like this around here have disappointed me in the past but I was willing to give them a try. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the server seated us and asked for our drink order. The menu was your standard hibachi menu. We started out with the soup and salad. The soup was really good and had just a little kick to it. The salad was your average salad. We had the steak, chicken, scallops, shrimp and your vegetables and fried rice. Our cook was very entertaining and made sure we had enough food. Our portions were a nice size. He did a great job in preparing our food and made sure there was no cross contamination. I have found a new place to enjoy the hibachi grill experience. read more

We used to like coming here.... After last nights experience.... Not sure we will ever be back. We had reservations for 6pm but part of our party had not shown up. They finally got there at 6:15. We were seated by 6:20 that's when it all started to go wrong. The hostess was getting plates for our table, which I thought was very odd. Once we were sat down I noticed I was the only one with out a plate... I asked the waitress for a plate when she came for our drink order. She came back with the drinks but no plate. We also asked her for utensils since there was only 1 person at our table with them... she stated she would have to go back and roll them to bring them out.. she asked if we could use plastic utensils... most of us had to us plastic to eat with... and for napkins she brought out some napkins and the rest were drink napkins..... I am sorry but the amount of money these folks charge.... This is very poor service. The chef came out at around 7:20.. also they did not bring the soup and salad until the chef came out... the chef was at the table... now onto the rest of the fiasco. Our grill was not operating properly so the grill did not get as hot as usual... we finally got served at 7:40... I ordered the filet and shrimp double rice no vegetables... he served the rice first, then steak.... A pause while he cooked the chicken and scallops.... All the while the vegetables were pushed off to the side.. he finally got to the shrimp.. this is where it dropped below 3 stars.... The shrimp was mixed with fresh and OLD.... So we basically paid for fresh but got something we could not eat.... Needless to say the new owners need to get their act together if they want to stay open... read more

Not only was service bad, the food was really expensive and to top it off it was disgusting! The service was forgetful and unfriendly. The menu had no nutritional info (none online either). The ginger salad was so gross, it tasted like mayonnaise with a hint of ginger. My brother's food came out a solid 10 mins before my APPETIZER! The rice was absolutely awful and the sushi appetizer that I ordered was definitely NOT fresh. I've been ordering sushi for 20+ years and I have never been served raw fish that had been frozen! The texture was gritty and the flavor was nonexistent. 0 -10 DO NOT GO HERE! Ps. Good luck getting a refill on your drink. read more

Great food and staff. Would definitely come again for group gatherings! The caterpillar, red dragon and tiger crunch sushi were very tasty. I liked the Singapore noodles and would add that to my regular order menu. This place is definitely worth a try among the regular selection within the mall area. Come at any time! read more

Yum yum... the sauce and the food lol It's been awhile since I been to a hibachi restaurant but the last time I went as well as this time I went to Stix, they have not disappointed! We went tonight to celebrate and we started with drinks. I got a hypnotic martini, it was delicious! They are not shy with their liquor which is good because it was expensive but worth it. The wait wasn't long, we got to our table. The chef was fun and good at what he does. The food was great I got the steak and chicken, you can't ever go wrong with that. The steak was cooked to a medium perfection and the chicken was cooked great. read more

Since Stix reopened a few months ago under new management, the food hasn't been as good to me. I really hope it gets better!

I see a lot of reviews here aren't so enthusiastic, and maybe I might not be too crazy about all the menu items here, but when I say this is the BEST Kung Pow Chicken I have ever had, that is no exaggeration. It is to die for! Spicy and flavorful, every bite is amazing. I always get the edamame for my appetizer. I will try to explore the menu a little more, but I'll just say, ABSOLUTELY get the Kung Pow Chicken! read more

I love Stix! Great portion size. The hibachi chefs always do a great job. No complaints here!

Got the shrimp & scallops plate. Food was delicious but Stix has changed their portions and I don't like that. I'm spending $45-50 dollars with add ons and they don't pack up the plates like they used to.. very frustrating when I can get hibachi in Homewood for less money and a full portion. read more

Honestly don't bother with this place. Not only is the hostess rude, but they are in no way prioritizing reservations. The only people they want to sit are the huge groups crowding the host booth intimidating the hostess. Food was bad family and myself got food poisoning less than 12hrs after having lunch. Service was great no complaints.

Summary: I ordered Hibachi Filet. I sat for a long time before a server took my order. The meat was raw in the middle (ordered medium), the fried rice was cold, service was poor. Stix used to be a guaranteed yummy meal, so today was a huge disappointment. And the place smelled old - like dirty carpet or old grease. The managers have a lot of work to do before they get me back as a customer. Sad to see a good place go downhill. read more

I've had numerous good experiences there over the years. But, this week they were off on their hospitality for our birthdays we were celebrating. We felt rushed even though no one was waiting to be seated. They failed to clear our plates from the table before bringing our birthday cake back to us, still covered with no candles lit. And they sang their birthday song with no notice, so some of our party missed it while in the restroom. It was just not up to par. read more

I went to this place with a group of ladies for our last small group. I always get the hibachi chicken with extra yum yum sauce.

This place is amazingly good! It has hibachi style dining, so the food is fresh and hot of course. They season everything so well and you get a very nice helping! I've always gotten the shrimp and steak hibachi. I also usually get the fried calamari which is delicious. The soup and salad are tasty. And they have a nice drink menu. The atmosphere is fun and it can also be nice for a date. Love this place. read more

First timers here. We've sat through yawner Hibachi Shows over the years so we just asked for a booth. Good thing. We were seated immediately and walked past dozens of famished patrons waiting to see shrimp fly through the air onto their plates. I had a nice tall carafe of hot sake. It was smooth and I could feel the bern. My wife chose a bubbly brut and liked it too. We shared a spring roll app and it was good. I chose Orange Beef, expecting naked beef. It was breaded and fried. I guess I shoulda asked, but I've never seen that presentation before. My wife had General Chicken. She liked it and said it had the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. So I would describe our maiden voyage here as smooth sailing, no icebergs, but no Johnny Depp excitement either. read more

Sing with me... I've got the Power! Ta Dum... TaTaTaDum. When it's your birthday weekend in the Leong household, you get to pick where to eat and that's power! :) I picked Stix! I haven't eaten here in awhile and I missed it. Stix is one of the oldest Japanese teppanyaki restaurants in Birmingham. I have eaten here many times but this is my first opportunity to write a Yelp review. They are located in the popular Hoover Galleria on the "outer ring" between Sears Auto Center and Fed Ex Kinkos. Upon entering you can go Left for traditional sit down meals or go Right to the Teppanyaki side and have your food prepared in front of your eyes. To me that's one of the appeals of eating this way. You get to see your food cooked from scratched right in front of you. We went early on a Friday and were seated in few minutes at one of their many U shaped tables. Before our cook arrived, Tammy ordered a glass of plum wine and I ordered their lettuce wraps. I thoroughly enjoy their lettuce wraps. The lettuce was so fresh it was still "wet". Biting into it wrapped around the warm chicken concoction was delicious. Our cook soon arrived and he wasn't quite as entertaining, but he did a good job preparing our food. We enjoyed his show including the egg toss into his hat, the big opening flameout and the onion ring volcano turn choo choo train. Next came our miso soup with large slices of mushrooms and the delicious cucumber dressing salad. Everyone else ordered the steak except me. I got the salmon with a side of shrimp. The first thing they cook here is the rice. I absolutely love the way Stix makes their fried rice. It's quite simple... fresh cooked rice, sesame seeds, soy sauce mix, fried eggs, salt, pepper and butter... lots of butter. He then cooked all the steaks. The family all like their steaks medium rare and our cook delivered. Next was my shrimp. It was cooked perfectly. I would know. I watched him cook it. Finally my large filet of salmon was placed on my plate. Watching him cook it made me want it even more. The cook on it was perfect and then he gently sauteed it with teriyaki sauce. He then delivered the vegetable medley of onions, brocolli and zucchini. Ending the performance was the traditional "shrimp toss" into your mouth. I'm proud to report that only Sarah and I were successful in catching a shrimp in our mouths! The price can be a little pricey, but I've always walked out with leftovers... enough for another meal. If you've been to enough Japanese teppanyaki/habachi restaurants you will realize that they're all pretty similar. They differ in the experiences you have in each. Stix has changed owners, but they appear to have kept their standards high. They would have to with a competitor Sumos right across the street at Patton Creek Shopping center. I'm glad I chose Stix for my birthday dinner. I hope I get to come back again sooner. read more

I have been eating at Stix for over 10 years and I ate there today and it was the worst meal I ever had there! I had the Hibachi Filet and I ordered it medium well and it came back raw and they did recook it for me but after paying extra for the Filet upgrade the Steak was like eating tough rubber and couldn't chew it, I spit out 80% of it as I couldn't eat it.
