I was very surprised to see this restaurant was not a 4 1/2 star at least. I have eaten at all restaurants in the area that are similar style where the hibachi style preparation is done and this one is by far the best in Birmingham. Atmosphere is great, the food is very tasty. But the quality of the food just seems better then the others in this area. I do think if your going there to eat try to do the hibachi side as that side just has more of a flare. Also a key point... you can make a reservation for parties of seven or more but not for less and this gets you seated pretty quick. I have always felt the service was good and drinks always kept full. read more

Stix - Fun for the entire family - Chinese Near Me - Hoover, Alabama

Food was ok but I was disappointed that they did a "switch and bait" with the Salmon. Switching to a cheaper fish than what's ordered is becoming common in some restaurants but to try and do this with Salmon is super obvious. I won't be back! read more

Very, very good! Stix has the best fried rice in Alabama. It has no corn! So many Asian restaurants around B'ham are putting corn in their fried rice now and it drives me crazy. We ordered the spring roll appetizer, which was really delicious. It was hot and fresh, and I nearly burned my tongue trying to eat it, but it was so good I couldn't stop! Shrimp fried rice for our entree, which is the best, as I already said. Whitley, our waitress, was very nice and attentive. She made sure that we were well taken care of and left happy. We plan to come here again ASAP! read more

I ordered steak and shrimp, and the steak was way to salty. I like salt but this was ridiculous. Service was pretty slow took 10 mins to get my soup and salad that come with the hibachi dinners. Other similar places 2-3 mins. They were not busy either so I'd hate to think how long had they had a large crowd. Very over priced as well. I will not be back there are other places that are exactly the same nearby that taste better, cost less and have better service. read more

My sister and I had a very enjoyable meal today. She had the sweet and sour chicken. I had the spicy shrimp. Both were very tasty. We both had the brown rice, which was cooked well. I enjoyed the ginger salad. Service was excellent. read more

I was super excited about this place but once we sat down, we became disappointed. For the most part, our server did not know the menu. She has no idea what types of sushi they had or what vegetables were in it. She also got an order incorrect and still charged me for it! The habachi chicken was very bland and the steak was salty. I would not return to this restaurant read more

Normal run of the mill tappan grill with little to none of the normal theatrics you get when you would eat at this type of restaurant. In my opinion they use far to much margarine in their dishes and everything is much to sweet. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but if it's what the family wanted and I was in this area again with a craving for some mediocre tappan, this is where I would come. I feel like if they cut out the use of so much margarine and used fresh ingredients and not something that just came out of a jug or jar the over all quality would increase. The sad thing is that will never happen here. This is the south and the "food critics" are few and fair in between and by 12:30 on a Tuesday this place was packed with people waiting for tables. It's unsettling to me but if the bare minimum is okay with you than hop on up and enjoy. read more

Fairly large chain, but consistently good food when I have visited several stores. Serves hibachi and from the kitchen.

Came here for dinner with family. It was a Friday night but we were able to get in without a reservation. This is a Japanese restaurant with hibachi style dining. They also have a regular restaurant with booths. We sat on the hibachi side. This is the typical hibachi where they cook in front of you. I ordered the chicken teriyaki. To start, you are given an onion soup. The onion soup was good but I ate around the mushrooms. Next, you are given a ginger salad. It was delicious. I always love these types of salads at Japanese restaurants. My chicken teriyaki came with rice and vegetables. But, I like that they let you substitute vegetables for double rice here. I did that and was able to get two meals out of it. Overall, the food was great. I am biased because I have yet to find a hibachi as good as the one near my house (in PA), but overall I really enjoyed it. Our chef did a great job, did all the cool tricks. I heard the cocktails here are great but I didn't try any this time. Prices were in line with other hibachi restaurants. Four stars. read more

the food was nothing special. We were aited forever for our waiter. Another waiter was kind enough to take not of our wait and took our orders. read more

With my previous experiences at other hibachi restaurants such as Kobe and Hokkaido this was one of the most disappointing. My mom and I ordered take out so we were expecting it to taste different but it was pretty bad. The only items we ordered that wasn't disappointing was the crab wontons and the chicken fried rice. The California Roll (sushi) lacked freshness it really tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. My mom had the beef which came out kind of chewy (YIKES)! We couldn't eat it and had to throw most of it away it was really a waste of my money. Needless to say, I won't be back.. read more

Birthday dinner for my bff's boyfriend. Hibachi of course. The waitress was super fast and not very attentive. Never got to order appetizers bcus after a couple people said no she walked off without asking the entire area. The show was nice as usual. The salad and miso soup was amazing this time. I ordered the Scallops as my entree and I know now to not do that again. He cooked them Scallops past dead. They were so rubbery I could've bounced them off the walls. The rice and vegetables were perfectly cooked though. read more

Homogenized but not bad, just there. I had the singapore noodles, not the hibachi. It had a spicy indicator on the menu, lol - spicy for who - a 90 yr old grandma? Zero spice so I got some chile sauce to smear on it - funny, that was hardly spicy either. Overall, flavor was decent but very muted - just something decent to eat over fast food. The bar is typical corporate penny pinching - even a sign on the wall saying "1 1/4 oz of liquor in all drinks...". I actually ate at the bar. The bartender was also bland, just going through the motions. The whole place seems like super Americanized money extraction. Edible but not memorable at all. read more

We used to love this place. This last time we went will be the last time. First off we go to the left side where they have booths (like we always have). There were only 3 other tables that had people sitting in them on a Saturday at 1. I thought it odd but oh well. We waited 10 min before we ever saw our server. She took both our drink and food orders at that time. Note: all the staff were dressed inappropriately, wearing sweatpants, athleasure wear, and/or house slippers. We saw our server again when she brought our salad and soup. Then our food came and was delivered by a different server (which is ok). We get the exact same thing every time and love it but this time the hibachi chicken was chewy and the fried rice did not taste good. So after we finished we waited for our server to come back for another 10 min or so, mind you we haven't seen her since she brought our salad and soup. I decided I would stand up to see if I could spot her on the other side of the booth and she is in another booth talking with co-worker. Also note that there are 2 dirty tables in the place that no one has bothered to clean off. I wave her over. We pay and leave. Never again will we go back read more

I have always loved stix! The staff is nice whenever I go. I usually get the steak and hibachi chicken with rice or just chicken and rice. It's always cooked to perfection. I also love the soup and salad that is given. This is my go to spot when I just want something simple but yummy! read more

The food is great whether you're picking it up or dining in! I used to always say the Stix in Fultondale is good but Hoover has them BEAT. You get large portions and the hibachi chefs make sure you have a good time while in there. I'm pretty sure sitting at a regular table is just as good as at the hibachi table. The only take away I can give them is COVID guidelines. The hibachi area is not that big so that has everyone crowded and not safely "socially distancing". Other than that, this Stix is great and I always recommend everyone to go to this one. read more

Good service. GREAT FOOD! We had a little bit of everything. Onion soup, ginger salads, calamari, sushi, chicken and shrimp with fried rice and beef lo mein! Delicious!!! The Philadelphia Roll was one of the best I have ever had! We will definitely be back!!! read more

What's not to love about stixs!!!! My finance and I always go for the hibachi nothin like getting a show and some shrimp thrown at your face. The service sizes as stix are always very generous and the chef usually cooks more than required so volunteer for some extra grub when you have an appetite. I usually go with the chicken and shrimp whilst my lady goes for shrimp and scallops. Both are always cooked well and to satisfaction. The drink selection is fantastic, they have ice cold Sapporo, one of my favourite beers which is a big plus. They also have a fantastic cucumber saki which I vouch for. Service is usually good except the drinks can come out a bit slow. Also remember you can get double rice or double vegetables and/or double soup or double salad. They always try and cater to your needs. Till next time read more

Coming from Florida and being accustomed to Kobe probably caused my expectations to be a little high going in but it was below expectations for me. We were seated fairly quickly for a Friday night and the drinks came soon after. The show was as entertaining as any I've seen. The meats were very good. The shortfall started with the rice being a bit bland. The cook forgot our sons rice and vegetables all together. When we were finished, the waitress was rushing us out (which I understand to an extent because there were a lot of people waiting) but it was made obvious. The worst part is that even though we were made to feel rushed, it took forever to get our check. I would probably give them another shot as this was out first visit but it left a bit to be desired. read more

This was my first time eating here. The food was good. But here is where it went totally wrong for me. The cook was stereotyping all the people at the table. One incident was that he assumed my boyfriend has marijuana because he has locs and he is African American. Other comments were said as well to other people at the table. Then the cook started tossing chicken for us to catch it. But instead of tossing he started throwing the chicken while I was saying stop and it landed in my hair. Finally the host charged another person ticket on our card. And we did not get a refund for it. All and all I felt disrespected. And I will not eat there again. Stix in Hoover. Do not remember cooks name but I do remember the face. Horrible service! read more

First off, as somebody who was only here on business and has no loyalty to Birmingham whatsoever, people who use a review space to slam the city should really step back and consider where they have decided to call home. Smyrna, Ga? Really? Methinks the lady doth protest too much. If you are living in the center of strip mall hell in a soulless suburb, you have no room to talk. Check yourself, darlin'. Anyway, my experience with Stix was very, very positive. I needed my weekly sushi fix, so after a quick search for sushi joints using Yelp on my iPhone, I made my way there. The Packers-Viking game was on, so I made my way to the sushi bar where one of the chefs was watching and trying to explain what was happening to the other chef. He seemed to share my dislike for the traitor Brett Farve, so he instantly became my friend. Bingo! If you're a buddy of the sushi chef, that means one thing - freebies! I was starving this particular night, so I must say I gorged while I was there. I had several varieties of nigiri sushi and all were extremely fresh, tasty and nicely presented. The standard spicy tuna roll was very tiny and not as spicy as I would have liked, but it may have just been a onetime mistake. The other roll I had was a spider roll which was delicious. So, great food, great service and a great interior make for an overall great dining experience. I would highly recommend it if you find yourself in town and want sushi. read more

This place was an utter disappointment. Although the restaurant had space and seating available we waited on a table longer than 20 minutes when told it would take 5. The service was poor. It took another 10+ minutes for our server to bring water. She also failed to clear the table when we were done with the soup and salad. When the cook finally showed up he seemed grumpy, the entire experience was anticlimactic compared to what was going on at the next table. When you go to a pricey restaurant and especially a hibachi grill, you expect the works or for the servers to at least make up for a long wait. The food was good for the most part. The sushi was awful. The rice tasted old and tasteless. I wouldn't go back and sit down at the restaurant. read more

Great Asian option in Hoover Stix is kind of in 3 parts. The middle when you walk in is a sushi bar. To your left is a sit down restaurant and to the right is a hibachi grill area. Atmosphere- Clean, tastefully decorated. Sometimes a bit drafty from AC vents. Staff- Friendly and knowledgeable Food- The Asian food is great and consistent. Bang bang chicken appetizer is a must. The sushi is wonderful tasty and very very well presented. Little things like making a red dragon roll look like a dragon. I have heard the hibachi is excellent but I have not tried it. If it is like the rest I am sure it's good. read more

Good Hibachi, entertaining. Sushi menu is good. Nothing really standout from other hibachi restaurants.

We had an awesome team lunch here today. The service was great and the hibachi was phenomenal as usual!! My coworkers had sushi that looked very good. I enjoyed the hibachi chicken. It was a lo of food for a lunch portion. I know what I'll be having for dinner tonight. read more

I am always happy to eat here! The staff and chefs are amazing and very welcoming to our family. They are always understanding about the special order we make for ourselves because of allergy issues and our son (bang bang chicken, no sauce) because he is a picky eater. Suggestions: Try the las vegas roll, the yummy roll, and a share plate still serves enough to have leftovers. read more

I was quite happy with my experience at Stix. My husband and I went in for dinner one evening. We were seated immediately on the "Asian" side and our waitress came to the table and took our drink/appetizer order quickly. She was attentive without being overbearing. No complaints with the service. It was happy hour, so we decided to try the chicken lettuce wraps and the bang bang chicken. Both were very tasty. I ordered the chicken lo mein and my husband ordered the honey shrimp. We both enjoyed our entrees. The taste of the food reminded me a lot of PF Chang's. So it's nice to know that I have an alternative that doesn't require going into the Summit. The cost was typical of a higher end Asian restaurant. I'll definitely go back when I need my Chinese fix! read more

Awesome sushi and the banana roll for desert was off the hook! Oh yeah, I can't forget to mention my server Alexis. She was phenomenal. Nice job everyone! read more

Stix - The banana roll was amazing. Make sure you leave room! - Chinese Near Me - Hoover, Alabama

P.F Changs meets Benihana! Yes that is correct you can have Chinese or Japanese here. They even have the option for chefs to cook your food in front of you. I really enjoyed the mongolian combo and the spring rolls. The only thing I thought was absurd was an hour before closing we had staff cleaning up around us! If your restaurant hours are until 9:30pm you should wait! I managed to block the servers stacking chairs out of my peripheral but still was disappointed by this. I guess if you are an early bird you should be fine. read more

Growing up i used to eat here all the time. After the former owners got into legal trouble, the food and service went down the drain. i tried to give this place multiple chances to show me it was still good but it failed to do so. The food is flavorless, the service is subpar and the prices have increased. Not my favorite japanese restaurant in birmingham. read more

We are regulars here for sushi. Do: -Order sushi. I have enjoyed every roll I have tried. -Go on a weekday before 6:30pm. They have an amazing happy hour menu. $2 hot sake? Yes, please. Don't: -Get hibachi. -Go on a weekend. Way too crowded. read more

I love this place! The hot and sour soup is some of the best I've ever had! The sushi is so wonderful and I love to order ginger dressing to dip it in. The grill is expensive. My husband and I went there on our wedding night and spent $60 for the two of us. It was expected though. (Trust me, that was the most we've ever paid for dinner!) I'd say that it's expensive, but the food is so good! I recommend it. read more

I've been to this location several times and to be honest, my experience is always the same . When I walked in the host was rude but this is normal. I went here for a business meeting and the person I met chose the place so I just went with it. If I could have chosen somewhere else I would have. I sat on the wise that's more like a traditional restaurant and everything was great. My server was great and very attentive to our needs. He checked on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed. Every time we needed refills , he was there. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because first impressions are everything and if I had a say so in this visit, the moment the host was rude to me, I would have turned around and walked out. read more

I would give zero starts if I could. We did not get the hibachi; however, we did get the sushi. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. After looking at the specialty rolls we decided to just get a spicy tuna and a spicy yellowtail roll. The amount of cucumber in each roll (when it did not list cucumbers in the description) was ridiculous. There was more cucumber than actual fish. Even the fish itself didn't taste remotely good. read more

Went here for lunch. Very friendy staff and chef. I ordered just sushi, which was good but I have had better. My friends ordered Habachi and I tasted their rice; it was ok Mizu in Alabaster is better. It's really a taste preference I believe. I have eaten at Mizu with the same girl I ate with this day.
