CONCEPT: Expansion into a large storefront has allowed DaSilva's vision of a community gathering place for locally produced art and food to be more fully realized. LOCATION: Ten Mile Table is located in the enter of rural Wassaic. There is ample parking near the railroad track. EXPERIENCE: One prominent local product represented at Ten Mile Table is the work of a talented baker, Ariel Yotive of Vitsky Bakery. A variety of breads, cookies, and pastries are available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Ten Mile Table until they sell out. Craft paper boxes are available for easy transport, but I am unable to resist trying one of the creative options before I leave with a cup of Bantam, Connecticut roasted coffee from Krafted Brew Lab. Staying true to its newsstand origin and showcasing of creative products, Ten Mile Table sells independent publications related to food, including California-based Compound Butter magazine. The potential to pick up at interesting read to accompany a cup of coffee and a pastry adds to the charm of visiting Ten Mile Table. The curated collection at Ten Mile Table invites inspiring home-prepared dishes through its many unique, locally-produced products, such as Laurel & Ash Farm's maple vinegar, as well as independent food magazines and community cookbook library.

It's slightly funky and delicious! The farm store, where you pay on the honor system (places like this make me so happy), also has kimchi, eggs, frozen meat of various kinds, and a few baked goods on offer. Just be careful when exiting the lot. If you have a non-SUV, you're likely to bottom out. p.s. Friends just stayed at a separate apartment adjoining the main home on the property and it was quite charming. The creamery / dairy farm also hosts full blown farm stays, evidently. p.p.s. I scoped out their website after our friends stayed at the farm and had to share this page (https://calfandclovercreamery.com/cows) describing the beautiful calves with their beautiful mamas, who are responsible for this delicious milk. We caught a glimpse of them out back! Read about the Madre method for milk sharing, which Calf & Clover practices. Pretty darn neat.

The apple cider donut stand was absolutely amazing. Theyre making them fresh right there! We got a couple fresh apples as well and they were phenomenal. Service was nice and they're busy! We had fun plucking zennias ($.50 each) and wanted to see the sunflowers but did not get a chance to since we saw lightning. Within ten minutes of seeing lightning, a heavy thunderstorm began, which we waited out in the cidery, which is in a large barn. There were three bathrooms and a shared sink. There were also lots of snacks, ciders and spirits available for purchase. You could even buy crackers / cheeses / meats to make your own charcuterie board! It looked like there was a private event while we were there as well as another private event in the evening. I only tried the Kitchen Sink cider which I honestly didn't like at all, but at least the packaging was nice! I also have to give a shout out to the people working at the stand near the parking lot for giving me a free sunflower stem since I didn't get a chance to pick one!

Now a retired dairy farm, Castle Hill Farm was once the second largest supplier of dairy products in Fairfield County. In spite of the farm's retired status, the Paproski Family work hard to preserve their 100+ acres through continuing the production of hay and corn fields, growing Christmas trees and seasonal vegetables. In addition to their Farm Stand, Castle Hill Farm also has a petting zoo, hayrides, a Sunflower Stroll, a Corn Maze, a Pick-Your-Own Pumpkin Patch, and other various attractions at different times throughout the year. The farm is also available to book for events such as weddings and baby showers. My family and I recently visited Castle Hill Farm to see their Sunflower Stroll. First we stopped off in their farm stand which was filled with all sorts of fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, corn, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and even local honey. We decided to purchase some delicious looking Graffiti Eggplant as well as a handmade candle that had an intoxicating vanilla aroma. Afterwards we headed into the Sunflower Stroll. Our son had so much fun looking at all of the pretty flowers and pointing out all of the bees. Co-owner Stephanie Kearns told us about other things the farm will be offering in the coming months, including hayrides, the pumpkin patch, and other Fall Fun activities. Autumn is our favorite time of year so we'll definitely be back! Get out and see the Sunflower Stroll while you still can!
