In the mood for a lunchtime Saturday sandwich, I decided the Co-Op would fit the bill. I had a hankering for an Italian mixed sub, gave some specific instructions, and they delivered. I can be a little picky when it comes to my sandwiches; I like my deli meat thinly sliced, sandwiches just taste better that way to these taste buds?! So this time, I wanted thinly sliced ham, pepperoni, and salami, with red onion, shredded lettuce, and that good good red wine viniagtette, on a sub roll. All the ratios addeded up in my book; the thinly sliced meat complimenting the healthy squeeze of the red wine vinaigrette dressing, all while not making the bread soggy -- that's key. Nothing worse than soggy bread, IMHO. So in closing, I will be back for this sandwich and I hope it's this perfect every time!!

We finally made it to this local grocery store and were pleasantly surprised. There's plenty we found appealing about the experience, from the clean and spacious aisles and clear labels to the full range of goods we weren't sure we would find, including bakery, deli, produce, and pet foods. Staff at checkout was energetically friendly and I left thinking that I wouldn't mind going back at all. There's limited parking directly in front of the shop but more across the road. Apparently the co-op was established some 80 years ago and has gone through several transformations. I have a soft spot for local businesses and independent grocers, so here's hoping they stay open for many more years.

It's less than a minute drive so it's right on my way home! But, this was the first time we ordered food, we really used to love Fastrac breakfast pizza but the nearest Fastrac is in Amsterdam, NY (about 20 minutes away). We heard Stewart's Shops has breakfast pizza so we thought we'd give it a try. Strongly, not recommended. Unlike Fastrac, they are pre-made so you can't customize what toppings you want. The crust is similar to a generic frozen pizza, very dense texture and no flavor. The toppings (egg, sausage, bacon and cheese) were good. But the liquid layer on the crust (we couldn't agree what it was, but am inclined to believe it's an egg product) made it very runny. So we preheated our oven at 350 degrees and put it in for 5 minutes, still runny. Left it for another 5 minutes and although somewhat better, still "slippery". The statement, "When you're hungry, you'll eat almost anything" holds true. Use some hot sauce and it makes it palatable. So use Stewart's Shops for what they do best, milk, ice cream, bread, hotdog and hamburger rolls, pastries and donuts, quick bag of chips or a beverage and gas! Leave the breakfast pizza to someone else. Problem is, who's that because you can't find it anywhere since the pizza restaurants aren't open and there aren't any Fastrac or Nice 'n Easy stores in this area.
