RUDE, RIUDE, RUDE! I…read moreLOVE the Whole Foods food bar. However, this one not so much. It's not the food it was an employee we encountered on 8/22/26. When we walked in, we noticed that the food bar was not totally open yet. Some of the food was out, but not all of it. My husband politely asked an employee who was placing food into the trays when it would all be ready. She literally looked at my husband like he was an idiot (not exaggerating) with epic double stink eyes and said.."Well I'm putting it out now!" He asked again when it would all be out because we wanted to come back. She curtly replied, "AS SOON AS I'M DONE!" It was so rude and an embarrassment for such a great place. By the way, an additional employee who was there actually laughed at us. Perhaps she needs a vacation or a lesson in civility? The stars are for the food, not the employees..

However, recently we have used their pick up-catering and this lead to writing a Yelp review. We have ordered their wraps twice in the past 3 months for gatherings. The quality and presentation were great. Guests praised the taste and ate every one. You pick assortment; $72. a tray. We also ordered mini muffins and croissants. The muffins were not worth the cost. Fresh Market has good sales each week and a frequent customer reward program. We were big fans of their signature healthy store made chicken salad. In the past, I would pick up "meal plates with one protein and two sides" when they were on sale on Tuesdays. Other Pluses: The selection of premium coffees bagged and ready to grind is extensive. The deli counter has quality products. The meat and seafood departments are first rate. Ready to serve/eat food section is excellent. They offer drive up pickup. Lots of spices available. I like that they feature many local and international products.

I was at the Co-op the next day. A variety of their breads are located in a shelf display across the aisle from all the other breads. I saw sandwich rolls, French baguettes, plain sourdough, three seeds sourdough, whole wheat sourdough, plain challah, everything topped challah, and a couple of variations that I don't recall. Some of the loaves are also available in half-loaf sizes. I purchased a loaf of 3 Seed Sourdough ($8.69) and a loaf of Everything topped Challah ($7.29). Both are excellent in their own right. The 3 seeds on the sourdough are organic dry roasted pumpkin, organic dry roasted sunflower, and organic golden flax seeds. Anicca makes a point of stating that they make every attempt to obtain all their ingredients within 200 miles of the Troy bakery. The sourdough has a nice chewy crust and a decent sour flavor. The challah has a softer crust than the sourdough, just a bit of sweetness and a slightly lighter colored crumb. The challah is also double bagged for some reason. The loaf is placed in a plastic bag before it is placed in the outer paper bag. Maybe that was to protect the everything topping? If you visit their web page https://aniccabakery.com/ you will learn that you can order online and pickup your order at Alias Coffee Shop in Troy. You may also notice that their web page does not mention all the varieties of bread that I saw at the Co-op and shows a more limited production schedule. Maybe their web page is just not up to date. Another issue I ran into was knowing whether the bread was fresh. Glancing at the information on the label of my two choices, I saw that the sourdough was labeled as "Date Baked on10/29/25" (GREAT! That was today), while the challah was labeled as "Date Baked 10/30/25." WAIT!!! How can that be? 10/30/25 is not until TOMORROW!!! I checked several other packages and found that all the packages of challah were labeled with tomorrow's date. As an aside, does that mean I wouldn't be able to eat the challah until tomorrow? LOL Or better yet, if I eat it today does that mean the carbs don't exist yet? Still, LOL. In any event, a Co-op employee noticed my confusion and insisted on informing management while wondering if this meant the sourdough could have actually been sitting on the shelf since 10/28/25. Today or not, but probably tomorrow also, both breads were excellent. I'm looking forward to trying a whole wheat sourdough.

My biggest problem with Ramesh's is the location, not only is it int Schenectady but it is in one…read moreof the shadier parts of the city. It is also off the beaten path. I worry about its survival because the location sucks. Ramesh is a small West Indian Grocery Store, that carries processed goods, along with some produce and meat. The fresh produce section is somewhat limited, but they do have the staples like some ground provision and hot peppers. They only had habaneros, while other West Indian stores would have two or three varieties of hot peppers. C'est la vie. Ramesh does shine when it comes to procesed goods, pepper sauce, jerk marinade, casareep, dried sorrel etc. This is undoubtedly their strong point, and the best reason for making the trek to this store. They also sell meat, they have advertised specials but I was not sure when I would get home and did not check out these offerings. A worthy try, it would be good if it was in a better area.

The fresh produce had obviously seen better days, and their baked goods are of lesser quality than another store just up the road. The store itself is well stocked with sauces and spices, and frozen fish and meats, but their prices are a bit steep. $3.99 for a 16oz bottle of casreep is a bit hard to swallow, but yet frozen lamb at under $4 a pound was pretty decent. If you need a hard to find West Indies spice or want some frozen fish and/or meat this place is great. But for bakery items and fresh produce go elsewhere.
