I had never been to a Stew Leonard's before and let me tell you - it's like Disneyland but for groceries. Complete with animatronics and everything. I can't speak for the produce department, but I bought some items from the meat, seafood, and bakery departments. At the meat department, they have everything you could possibly want - even dry aged and tomahawk steaks (one day!) You could order something from behind the counter or pick something from the fridge and they will trim and slice it up for you. We nabbed a massive chunk of filet mignon (on sale for $7.99/lb) and they cut it up for us into perfectly-sized portions. You choose the thickness you want them to cut it to. We had it for dinner that same night and the quality was much, much better than what you would get at a regular supermarket or warehouse store. We also stocked up on a bunch of different sausages (hot Italian, chorizo, breakfast) to stick in our freezer and defrost whenever we want to use it. I haven't tried it yet but they look really good. They're fresh sausages for a cheaper price ($1.99/lb) than what you'd find in the freezer section and they weren't even on sale! Moving onto the seafood department - since we got the filet mignon, we decided to do a surf & turf night since lobster tails were also on sale. They were from frozen but they didn't taste that way at all. We also bought some salmon for the next night's dinner (and some to cure, which is curing as we speak so I shall soon share the results) and again, the quality of the salmon is a lot better than that of a supermarket. They also cut up portions for you, so you get nice, big fat chunks, and you're not left with the tail end that nobody wants. Now for the bakery department. Think of every pastry, cookie, bread, cake you could ever possibly want and the chances are - they have it at Stew Leonard's. There were so many things I wanted to try but we managed to make it out with just a pack of glazed donuts - which we saw them make fresh, and fresh they were! I'm not sure I'll be able to show that must restraint the next time I visit. My only peeve was that I didn't like the way the store was set up (but perhaps this is how all SLs are set up). It's kind of like a maze, so there aren't any store aisles. This is actually pretty brilliant on their part because you'll have to go through sections you don't want to, and you'll probably end up grabbing a few more items you don't really need. Due to this maze set up, the overall traffic flow of the store seems chaotic. You'll have your seasoned SL shoppers, who know exactly which section they're going to. And then you have newbies, like me, who don't know where they're going and are just trying to find a place to park their cart without getting run over from oncoming traffic. I really felt like I was merging onto a highway, any time I wanted to move my cart somewhere. That being said, I think I'll try to visit on a weekday next time (we came on a Saturday afternoon). For the next visit, I'll be visiting the Wine and Liquor (they have a really huge selection we didn't get to look at since we were just trying to get what we needed and get out of the crowds), and Food Court sections of the park. read more

Truly the Disney World of Food Stores! From humble beginnings to 8 locations across the tristate area, this store is magical! My family and I have been loyal fans of Stews since going to the one in Danbury 30 + years ago! Not only can the parents do most of their normal grocery shopping, but kids will be entertained every step of the way! They really thought this store through. More so the other stores than this one, but they were limited on space here... Every turn is a real treat! I am not going to go over the whole store with you here, but I will share some of the highlights! Their bakery is top notch!!! 1000000% get the chocolate chip cookies, they are super famous for these! I haven't gotten anything here that I didn't like yet! Meat and fish are always super fresh! And always an amazing selection! You really cant go wrong with anything here. One of my favorites is their hot food section! They sell it by weight, and I would get in trouble very quickly here lol! Always an amazing selection of 40+ hot foods! Sushi here is also spectacular!!!!! Really fresh!! Too bad the salmon rolls I want are gone super early lol! There are amazing things for kids here. Every bend there is either a stuffed animal doing a summersault, or and animatronic, or something singing a song! It really keeps them entertained! Now I admit, this store is pricier than your normal one, but the atmosphere almost transports you to Disney, so I would say its worth it every so often. To end your trip, if you spend over $100, which is super easy to do!!! You get a free ice cream! If you have their app, you can continuously collect them! I think I have about 9 of them now lol!!!! All in all, this is an amazing store! Every detail is completely thought out! If you are anywhere nearby and need to do basic shopping and need to entertain kids, this is your place! read more

[1120] 10/2020 Stew Leonards supermarket has plenty of parking in this mall. My cousin told me about his place so I had to check it out. I'm glad we did as there were so many cool treats in this store. The apple cider donuts were amazing and fresh. Tons of food you can pickup for dinner. I picked up a ton of treats. I am happy I found this place but sad it's 2 hours away from home. None in my area. This is definitely a place I will stop in when I'm near Paramus. I'll be back read more

Having spent years in retail, I love going to higher end grocery stores. So much to look at, the organic vegetables and the meat section was very impressive. Love the prepared foods ready to take home and eat. read more

I used to live in Connecticut and would frequent the Norwalk and Danbury locations. I stop in here in NJ when I'm back in town to pick up coffee beans and the apple cider donuts when it's in season to bring home to CA. It's a great place for groceries as my son used to love to start the animatronics and we would stock up on steaks and seafood for meals. I wished this place would open in CA. read more

Stew Leonard's Paramus is lovely. From the moment I walked through the door the experience was wonderful. As a die hard Wholefoods, and Wegmans shopper. I patronize higher end grocery stores. From the various displays of fruits, and vegetables as you walk through the door. The coffee shop, wine. Oh my, i was in grocery store heaven. I thought the animatronics were adorable. Very well organized, and refreshing to see how each section was put together. Loved the fact there was not any crowds, the store was extremely clean. I needed fresh French bread. The prices were great. I did not get to try the ice cream or the coffee. Looking forward to the next visit. Awesome grocery shopping experience, couldn't have been happier. read more

This IS like the Disney of supermarkets. You have to shop through the front entrance at least once. Tons of variety, good prices, big portions though. After multiple shopping visits over the last year or so I must say their customer service has been top notch so I take back last year's review and attribute it to a social media post unanswered as a one of. Stew Leonard's has been a great shopping experience and they do stand by the slogan, 'the customer is always right' so I stand corrected for the record. Nothing more disgusting than getting ice cream and seeing the worker dig his hands into the sprinkles to put them on my kids ice cream. Yes, he was wearing gloves, but those same gloved hands were handling the register and money just prior to my order. (01/18/25 between 4:00-4:20) read more

Stew Leonards is in NJ ! Sing it from the rooftops! My visit to the new location in Paramus was so good that it was almost bad. Because it was too good. And Paramus is a steep 45 minute drive for me. Is that too far of a drive for groceries? I stopped in because I was already in the area, but I'd probably make the trip again just for the groceries. Stews carries lots of typical items that you'll find at a grocery store. But I'd urge you to opt for things that are their brand. All of my Stew brand purchases were not only delicious and quality but also more affordable. Ex - their sliced deli meat is way better and cheaper than Boars Head. From dairy to meat to produce everything is absolutely standout. I purchased a huge and reasonably priced skirt steak and it was such good quality. The chocolate milk and apple cider are in an absolute league of their own. The pistachio soft serve might be some of the best ice cream that I've had. Oh, and if you spend 100 dollars on a haul you'll get a coupon for a free ice cream. Even better. There is also a very large section with lots of prepared foods -- anything from cheeseburgers to fried chicken to a wok. There are lots of pre-prepared sides that are reasonably priced and can tie a meal together perfectly. It's rare to find liquor stores in NJ super markets and the one here is massive. The selection is huge and from what I could tell the prices were reasonable. I didn't take advantage because I had just eaten lunch but there is also lots of sampling happening in the market. Always a plus. I'm confused about the 3 star rating because to me, Stew Leonards is perfect. Already dreaming of my return! read more

Chaotic and jammed on a Saturday afternoon -- like so many other retailers in Bergen County. I found this Wegman's wannabe market both confusing and fascinating. Confusing traffic pattern, think IKEA -- forcing you to transit every aisle to ultimately get to check out. Sucks if you only need a couple of things. Great if you are bored to death and enjoy browsing food. Chaotic vibe due in part to the kitschy, Disneyland-style animatronic figures located throughout the store -- sporting loud music and distracting talk (think: "It's a Small World"). Great for kids I suppose -- not so much for adults on a mission. I'm hoping this is just a new launch gimmick -- and these folks will eventually refocus on the quality and variety of their wares. Stew Leonard's in Paramus represents itself as a specialty and full service food market with a nicely curated wine and spirits section - having incorporated its previous Route 17 - liquor only location. Nice collection of rare bourbons and whiskeys. Decent wine selection. Thin on beer. I was most impressed by the dry aged prime meats and butcher section -- highlighted by 45 day porterhouse and ribeyes -- cut to your preferred thickness (2" for me). They trim your cut before they weigh it. Nice. No other market in the area offers this product and service at any price. These aged steaks are a steal at $20 lb -- provided the flavor is there. I'm burning one tonight -- will edit my review accordingly. * * [P.S. The aged ribeye is MONEY!! Fork tender, full of nutty flavor. I grilled to a medium rare. Check the pic. Enough for two -- with leftovers.] Seafood looked and smelled fresh. The whole swordfish in the case was impressive -- as was the low price -- and there was considerable variety available at equally low prices compared to market. True too with the prepared foods and Stew branded packaged goods. Alas the produce section was underwhelming. :(( Everything else looked like Wegman's light -- with some Fairway and Trader Joe's specialty items thrown in for good measure. Pricing is at door buster levels right now, but I predict they will rise over time. With all the specialty market competition in the area within a 5 or 10 minute drive (Fairway, Wegman's, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Netcost, H-Mart, etc), I'm not sure how effectively this market can ultimately distinguish itself. If Stew's consistently keeps pricing below competition -- or showcases luxury items nobody else offers (like aged steak or rare spirits or wild mushrooms) - it may carve itself a niche in an already crowded marketplace. Perhaps the strategy is to become a convenience stop -- connected as it is to Paramus Park mall -- with ample parking. You can do your mall rat thing and food shopping too. Kinda like the Whole Foods concept at Bergen Town Center - except - this market doesn't offer first rate eat in seating and food court service like Whole Foods. A missed opportunity in my view. Top Tip: Sate your opening week jones while you can and enjoy the door buster prices. Marketing strategy and history suggest the pricing won't last. Just saying. read more

Fun new supermarket experience in the Paramus Park Mall. There are singing animatronics throughout the store, yummy free samples and a great selection of fresh food at good prices. Stew Leonard's is one of my favorite food store in this country. Paramus NJ store is first store in New jersey and very well done with the oneway isle. Most I like about Stew is that this is fun place to shop even I come (other locations) weekly. My family is doing this already for nearly 40 years. Father Stew have been often walking in the store(Norwalk), and Jr. as well. Milk and all daily are fresh, bread and rolls are often still warm and good selection and fresh meat, piles of vegetable and fruits here always. I trust you can keep doing this even though expanded to Long Is. and N.J. I give you 5 stars today! read more

I'm a really big fan of one stop shopping and this store really has it all - meat, produce, deli, bakery, wine/beer/liquor, fish, groceries such as spice, paper products, etc. But it really goes out of its way to make a memorable experience for the kiddos. Which is good and bad - it builds brand loyalty at a young age and the store is extremely crowded and slow moving, but the kids complain less about food shopping because of the fun, dancing avocados. Think the now close Razz Matazz in Perth Amboy or a better maintainer Chuck E Cheese. They boast their dairy is tops and it is. They have soft serve vanilla and chocolate ice cream and then they have one rotating flavor. We've tried strawberry and my favorite, pistachio. Both were amazing but what ice cream isn't. A cone costs $2.50 which is very reasonable. Parking lot is as packed as the store itself. You can enter through the mall from here. The store itself is set up in an awkward format which forces you to walk the entire store even if you're just running in for a few things. But... you're not lol. You're coming here for the good time. Enjoy! read more

In the past, I've always gone to the Stew Leonard's in Yonkers, so I'm more familiar with that particular store. The one at Paramus feels a bit smaller, but is just as wonderful. If you're looking to host a party (maybe not right now, but hopefully in the future), then Stew Leonard's is the place for you! They have almost fresh ingredient that you could want. Their produce section is fresh, green, and filled with variety. Their baked goods section, though, is my absolute favorite. I completely forgot that Stew Leonard's has MUFFIN TOPS!! If you're a Seinfeld fan, you'll get this - but the muffin tops are my favorite part of the muffin, hands down. We also got some ginger scones and apple cider doughnuts. The apple cider doughnuts were almost as good as my absolute favorite ones from Spicer Orchards in Michigan. Their meat section is also phenomenal and we definitely picked up some nice pieces of steak for dinner that night. They literally have almost everything you could ever want - either prepacked for your picking or behind the counter with the butcher. The cheese section is also pretty sweet - and perfect for crafting the perfect cheeseboard. read more

Stew Leonards is the best! Love coming here. If you're looking for quality produce and meat then Stew's is for you. Their produce is excellent always fresh and lots of variety. Same with the meat - good prices, variety and excellent quality. If you're looking for variety of certain items then go to shop rite or something. Like if you need a specific brand of rice, cereal, canned tomatoes or certain condiments Stews probably won't have exactly what you're looking for. Their bakery section is amazing and smells so good!! So many types of pastries, donuts and breads. You can't go wrong with anything. The check out process is always quick no matter how crowded it is. And boy does it get crowded here. They move you along though and the staff is always helpful and friendly and will go above and beyond if you need it. Lastly, I see all the people on here complaining about the lay out. It's not that serious. Get over it. You can cut through if you don't like the "one way-ness" of the aisles. It's definitely different than your average grocery store but it's their thing and it's really not annoying at all. read more

Store is really 3.5 stars, but I'm being generous . Nice looking store and appealing with fresh baked aroma, etc. With pandemic now, the store unfortunately is kind of like a maze and customers too close . The store has nice departments and a lot of money put into it. Found certain departments a bit pricey, though their are deals to be found . Big disappointment with bakery . Little bit of "smoke and mirrors " tactics. A decent amount of their bakery stuff is not baked fresh on premises . One term to watch out for is "Freshly Prepared". That is NOT "Fresh Baked". A lot of the cakes , cookies , quiches , are not baked fresh in the store . Employees told me they are baked off-site. Some of the stuff is made off-site , then frozen , then put in the store's ovens . I have to say their fresh baked Portuguese Rolls were baked fresh in the store and delicious . So the bread is freshly baked in the store . The cheesecakes appear to be previously frozen . Deli meats were a bit overpriced compared to same Boars Head products at Stop & Shop. Not sure if the prepared food is made from scratch in the store , but I doubt it as they have such a wide selection and how it is packaged . The store has a radio commercial, that parts of it air in pieces year-after-year on the radio . It has a voice on it of a farmer or rancher talking about product w/ double negatives , bad grammar , etc. Commercial always upsets me as it's so condescending and unfairly stereotyping the great American farmers . But all- in-all the stores pretty good . A lot of good party and holiday stuff . Though they did not have prepared turkeys the day before Thanksgiving last year . Just be a wise shopper and ask questions if you are unsure what is fresh or made on premises ! read more

When NJ when into lock down quarantine mode during the covid-19 pandemic, all the grocery stores in the area became depleted...decimated. The Whole Foods had no chicken in sight. Every food in the aisles at Trader Joe's disappeared. Shop Rite's organic eggs and milk barely recovered. Costco put a limit on every essential item. It was good old Stew Leonard's that became my savior, and through this experience I became to not just appreciate their reliability in being open at 8a (7a for senior citizens) and always having their namesake eggs, milk, etc...availability but also producing quality products. I'll admit, when stew Leonard's first opened, I went once and never gave it another glance. Since mid-March, it has continued to be my go to market. You walk in and immediately get immersed into the smell of fresh donuts and bakery items. Here are some absolutely highlight items: The Stew Leonard's Portuguese rolls, tomato sauce, black and white cookies, pizza dough, the fact that they always carry pineapple core, cheddar popcorn, organic whole milk with very generous expiration dates, pizza bagels, chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches, individually wrapped cheddar cheese. Some low lights: their produce does not tend to last long, their cheese cake is more sugary less cheesecake like, they don't carry 50/50 spring mix & spinach containers, buble, or a wide range of the usual supplies like toilet cleaner, shampoo/conditioner etc... I am truly grateful to stew's quality brand and to their staff. They are the unsung heroes when we talk about essential workers who were (and are)committed to making sure that there was always milk, eggs, bread, and more in my fridge during the height of this pandemic and quarantine. For that, I will forever be a faithful Stew's shopper. Thank you! read more

Prior to the pandemic, I only visited Stew's a few times to try their hot bar while at the mall. Fast forward to Covid-19, and Stew's became a go to place for me due to friends always telling me of their well stocked supply of meat and vegetables when other store shelves were sparse. I now make a weekly trip here for my deli items, and bakery items. Some favorites are their store made spinach tortillas, the sprouted bread and 21 grain bread, and the cranberry health mix. I love their coffee too. I now exclusively get my deli items here, and love that they carry Boars Head, although the Stews deli items are great too. Lastly, the pickles are amazing! Of course, we do indulge sometimes in Apple Cider Donut holes, or the rainbow sprinkled ice cream cookie sandwiches. We live in an amazing area with great variety of food stores, and I shop at multiple stores, but I am glad I've found Stew's and added it in my rotation. I only started coming here during the pandemic because Edgewater grocery stores were getting so hard to get into because of the lines. Fast forward to my happy place ... Stew Leonards is amazing. The only problem I have is that the prepared foods are so good that I get carried away with fattening choices. My favorites include the bakery (fresh made donuts, rolls, bread of all types), extensive produce section and the ribs place (seriously, delicious beef ribs for $10 per lb). I wanted to go to the plant section outside but was on a schedule ... so next time. It's hard to evaluate pricing because all the grocery stores are raising prices during this time. But I'm just happy to not have to wait in line. This location has not been super crowded during my three trips there. The store is set up similarly to Ikea In that you have to walk around the store to get to the cash register, but I actually prefer that during this time because it's more conducive to social distancing. Again, my only complaint about the store is that there is so much temptation, but that's a good thing. read more

What a cool, cool and super cool supermarket. If you have kids they will LOVE it. If you like to eat, drink, shop, enjoy hot food, cold food, bakeries, ice cream, coffee and the list goes on and on... you will LOVE this place! It's just a cool supermarket. Did I mention cool? They have a nice selection of every single department including produce, meats, wine, takeout, pizza and much much more. Basically each department has cute entertainment consisting of music, large stiffed mechanical animals that either dance, sing or both. (Sounds kinda creepy now that I say this, but cute for kids). They have some kind of a rewards or point system and every time your order amounts to $100 you get a free ice cream. Anyhow, next time I go I'll take pics just for Yelp. Oh and it connects to the inside of Paramus Park Mall. They even have a cute eating area entering the mall. Yes, you can buy hot, fresh, food and eat it there or take it out. read more

Edited to add: sometimes you have to wonder about the mental health of an individual who feels the need to reach out to you over a review. Either she thinks the animatronics are real or she doesn't enjoy food shopping to begin with and needs the props for visual stimulation. Ridiculously stupid experience. Jumbo talking stuffed animals all over AND a person in a full cow suit walking around. It's basically a place to take your kids. Speaking of kids, there were more children than adults running around. Kids climbing into the refrigerated section where the grab and go was. Other kids were playing with the hot buffet. The layout is horrible. I found myself walking in circles looking for stuff. I wanted to get some chocolate and kept finding myself in the wine section. Never found chocolate. Their premade food is awful. I purchased 1 sushi roll and "fried rice". The "fried rice" was just yellow rice with frozen peas carrots and green beans. The sushi has a very thin sliver of tuna on top. All I tasted was sticky rice. This is a 1 and done. read more

So when Stew Leonard's opened my sister and I agreed that thank God they did so after my father died because he would have spent all his money Ubering there. My father LOVED Stew Leonard's so much in fact that when he was able to drive, he would go to Connecticut to shop there. The cool thing about it is that you rarely associate food shopping with fun or smiles. It's a task, a necessary evil of sorts. And since you have this need, why not make it enjoyable. Now I have read some reviews where people have somehow complained about all the fun. To them I say, go back to your miserable existence or better still Shop Rite. I'll take my grocery shopping with a healthy does of flying cows, singing avocados overall ridiculousness. Oh, and on an entirely different note, all this entertainment doesn't really come with much of a price as Stu Leonard's costs just about the same it's much more boring and mundane competitors. The layout is also logical and makes it super easy to find whatever it is you're looking for without having to run in circles. read more

Apple pie which we learned had to be refrigerated after opening due to having NO artificial ingredients or preservatives. Milk, cinnamon bun pull apart bread. Well I will start out and say this stew Leonard's is nothing like stews in Yonkers or any of his other location. This stews is in the Paramus park mall yes the mall . I'm so glad they opened this place for a million reasons. I go out of my way to make my way here (almost weekly now since they opened) and it's simply because I'm a fan of almost everything they offer. I remember when I used to visit this mall that was basically left for dead. When Stew Leonard's took over the old space vacated by Sears, it's like night and day here now. I preface by saying this place gets CROWDED - especially during peak hours on a Saturday and Sunday. At its worst it's a mass of shopping carts, people swarming various sections to buy what they need where you're also surrounded by insane animatronic things that sing all sorts of strange songs extolling the virtues of bananas and avocados. But for all of its wackiness, it can't be denied that there's a reason why people fawn over this place. After shopping here for at least 10 times (or more) in the past few months, there's no doubt they deliver some awesome produce at great prices. Their weekly specials are pretty good - especially if you're looking to score some deals on steaks etc. I've purchased a lot of steak and hamburger meat here and I've been very impressed by the quality of their products. As expected the dairy products are also great here. Even their diving soft serve ice cream is absolutely worth getting your hands on each time you visit. It helps that if you're a member you can score a free cone for every 100 points you accrue (which isn't hard to do, TBH here). I've really not had a bad experience with anything I purchased. Different varieties of meat such as beef, pork and chicken all were fresh and cooked perfectly. Fruits, veggies, milk, eggs etc - all good. I purchased their pizzas to take home to cook and they were way better than expected - especially when it comes to the cheese. Hell, they even sell Peter Luger bacon here, which by the way is awesome when you grill it at home ... yummmm Overall, I'm a fan of the excellent quality of their products, especially the freshness. The only obvious annoyance here is that the place can get crowded AF and parking near the area can be a real adventure. But beyond that, you can expect to find me here literally every weekend. read more
