This is the most well liked and awesome place to go shop and have a great time with staff and owner's (Steve and Kristin) you couldn't meet a more beautiful and wonderful couple and knowledgeable and fun loving staff who have a passion for animals and livestock and to those who care for their animals. To the moron/s who gave this place a bad review in the past 19 hours and 15 days ago. You are beyond laughable and pitiful. Get a hold of yourselves and shop online if you can't stand a bird out of it's cage and the open sign being switched off DURING THE TIME OF CLOSING. Really used to like this place but the smell from caged animals has become nearly unbearable that I can barely shop without wanting to gag. I think the staff has become nose blind to it. My eyes water the entire time in there and I hold my breath as much as possible while shopping, which I'll likely do less of now because I legitimately cannot handle it. This is not "one cage needs to be cleaned" bad it's like "not a single cage has been cleaned for months" bad. It did not used to be so horrendous and there's the same amount of small animals as before, so it's a cleaning issue. On the bright side, if you're looking for a groomer Rosa is top notch! 5/5 for her. I won't likely shop here until it gets cleaned but I'll continue to take my dogs here for grooming. read more

I drove 45 minutes to get hay because I like to support small local businesses. Online it says the store closes at 6:00pm. Regardless, I walked into the feed store at 4:55pm. There were three employees standing by the register. I was told they already closed the gate and couldn't sell me hay. When I questioned the time, they replied that they had no control over the mistake online. When I told them I desperately needed hay and would settle for one bale, I was refused. I returned to my truck and noticed the clock read 4:58pm, and yet they had already pulled the doors closed. They just lost a regular customer. read more

Bought a cardboard cat carrier to use to deliver a kitten as a gift. Something was wrong with the cardboard and the kitten only got half way in and the carrier ripped apart. I don't know if the cardboard was previously water damaged or just very cheap materials. If you bent it slightly it would Crack and break. Anyways took it back. The girl at the register was nice and agreed that the carrier was garbage. She got the manager and he wouldn't refund or store credit. I go in there once a month to buy my chicken feed and supplies for my chickens. Not anymore. I will never go in there again or refer them in anyway. 18.00 dollars and wouldn't work with me at all. read more

We stopped by one day when our usual source was out of sweet cob. The young men were very polite & helpful. The cob price was very reasonable as well. Now, we go to both feed stores as we enjoy giving our business to both & it's extremely convenient when we are in Oakhurst. Great prices and great service! The owners and all of the workers have always been very friendly and informative. Everyone is very knowledgeable about a variety of pets and animals. We met Steve and Kristin (the owners) by being patrons of their business and when we go to their shop now it feels like we've been lifetime friends! When my husband passed away earlier this year Steve and Kristin both took the time to come to his funeral to pay their respects and support our family. I had a professional brushing crew work on removing brush for a week. They used a tractor, ran down a lot of grass and exposed a lot of dirt (that will become mud after some rain). I contacted Steve's Pet Shop and was able to get 20 bales of straw delivered later that same afternoon ($219.80). 20 bales seems like just enough - it goes further than you would think. I wish this place was closer to my house because it really has all the items my cat requires. It's a lovely shop with a wide assortment of food, treats, and toys. Staff were generally pleasant but seemed to be a bit distracted. I was new to the store so I really wasn't aware of where the items were located and would have appreciated more help. But eventually I was able to find the specific food I needed. Usually the big box stores carry this dry food, but their inventory was completely sold out. And Rollo, my cat, has a very sensitive stomach so I needed to make a bit longer trip otherwise he'd just be without food for the week. And I couldn't let that happen. read more

Stopped by for a collar for my dog. I asked where the collars were and the clerk promptly showed me. I showed him the collar that was too small for my dog and what was hanging on the rack wasn't what I was looking for. I explained in more detail and he suggested I wait a few minutes while he went to the shipment that JUST came in and went through it looking for what I had described. While I waited, I enjoyed talking with their pet Umbrella Cockatoo while I waited. The clerk found exactly what I was looking for, brought it to me, and as I checked out, the person at the check stand was equally helpful. I will call them tomorrow about another item that I haven't been able to find. I'll definitely return to them in the future! read more

Fed up with this place. So much for trying to support this local business. Every time I go in there is one employee that acts like it kills him to help us. Maybe it does. Whatever. Great place for all things pet and livestock! They are in process of expanding their livestock section, which is wonderful! Customer service can't be beat! We were visiting the town and went to this shop just to look at animals. They totally didn't mind that we are not there to buy. Guy in the shop actually showed us a shy hamster by picking its hideout. Kids were very excited to see Fish, snakes, iguana, turtles, birds etc. thanks for the little tour. I had a very good experience at Steve's Pet Shop. I called to see if they were open (over Thanksgiving holiday) and if they carried a certain brand of dog food. They were very friendly and helpful on the phone. We went there and the service was great. The product was priced competitively, actually $3 cheaper than what I pay where I live out of state and $4 cheaper than what I can get online. I ended up getting 2 packages and some dog treats because I was so pleased with the pricing, and gave them a 5 star rating for their friendly competent service and prices! I am motivated to share and recommend a great experience when I encounter one! read more
