The worst part about having to do touch-up paint on walls is the number and colour no longer exist - even though the paint is from the same company. We had great help today. His service was top-notch. He was friendly and calm, and tested different colours to come up with the closest match. I recently stopped by this Ace Hardware store to see if I could find anything useful for organizing my new place of residence. What I found instead was a bunch of cute home decor. As I looked around, I realized that this is definitely where a lot of Yosemite residents shop, because I recognized so many unique items. I ended up getting a Christmas cactus-- not a technical Christmas cactus, but a mini pipe cactus with little bells for hats. I also picked up a ceramic baking dish and a ceramic cat. There were so many items that I wished I could buy, or might have bought if I were decorating an entire apartment from scratch. I noticed that they had some really cute Tiffany style lamps, including one shaped like a rooster. They also had some really cool upcycled steampunk lamps. What I love about Ace is how the local/home goods section varies so much from city to city. They had so many items tailored to the Yosemite area. For example, they had wannabe Stanley cups that said "The Real Housewives of" either Mariposa, Oakhurst, Coarsegold, or Ahwahnee. Whoever curates the merchandise for this side of the store is really good at their job. Customer service was good. I tried to ask a hardware associate if they had any air plants, which resulted in him learning what an air plant is. This is a direct quote: "I never even knew these existed." LOL. The girls up front had heard of them, and directed me to the set of 5 they were selling for $50, which was just not what I wanted. As I walked around the plant section, I couldn't help but notice that many of them were in terrible shape. Some of the plants were so badly decomposing that I could smell them from at least six feet away. Any plant that smells like old vomit is a plant that needs to be immediately separated from all the other plants and disposed of. But there were a couple dozen. I wondered if maybe they just don't have any employees who like to garden. (Note that my cactus came from a pallet by the registers which had just been received, and was nowhere near the sick plants.) Other than the disturbingly sick indoor plants, this was a good experience. They had so much cute, quirky stuff. I'll probably definitely come back again. read more

I bought a 5AH battery for my Ego Electric Mower 2 months ago from Bryant's Ace Hardware in Oakhurst, CA. The price for the battery with tax was $322.00. Mariposa's Foster Ace Hardware had the same pricing. Last week I looked at Amazon on line, and the SAME SIZE Ego Mower 5AH battery was $75.00 including tax and shipping!!! So the battery at the local hardware stores was over 400% higher in price!!! I called Corporate Ace Hardware, and was informed that the recommended battery selling price for the stores as $299.00. What a ripoff!!!! DON'T BUY THESE BATTERIES AT any Ace Hardware or you will be ripped off to the tune of over 400%!!!!!! I can understand a reasonable profit but this pricing is absurd!!!!! This is wonderful hardware store with a great selection of bbq stuff including a the fixins Any other tool or hardware product you need they seem to also have. They have a nice gift area a great Christmas section including a few toys. Lots of home wares. The staff is friendly and seem pretty knowledgeable about the departments they are working in. Parking is ample and best of all, it isn't Home Depot or Lowe's. I think Ace are private, family owned or more local, they just affiliate with Ace to effectively compete against the big box stores. Went to Bryant's Ace Hardware in response to their ad that was mailed to my residence. I was interested in purchasing two Milwaukee Tool items that were on sale, reduced from $169.00 & $159.00 to $99.00 each. A sales floor employee, Greg, helped me acquire the items from a locked display case. I went to the cashier and she rang the items up with a total of approx. $223.42. I questioned the price as it was too high. Both items totaled $198.00 with local sales tax of 7.75%. The total should have been $213.35. The cashier could not explain why the total was ringing up $10 too high. The cashier called for assistance from a midlevel manager. After a few moments the manager stated that I had to pay sales tax on the non-sale prices. I advised I had never heard of any retail store charging the inflated sales tax on the non-sale price. The cashier was kind enough to take my phone number to have the store manager call me regarding the issue. A short time later I received a call from one of the store's owners, Paul Bryant. Paul explained that the items were "Instant Savings" and subject to sales tax on the full price. I related I have purchased a whole lot of sales items in my seven decades on this planet and never, ever paid full price sales tax on a sale item. Paul advised with a sarcastic tone that the State wants all of the sales tax and customers are notified in the small print on the back of the sales ad (that no one reads). I told Paul I felt that it was a deceptive sales practice. I also advised Paul I was glad that Tractor Supply had opened in Oakhurst and I would be patronizing them instead of Ace Hardware. Paul didn't seem to care. For a good ending to this long winded review, the same items were on sale at Home Depot. I had an appointment in Fresno the following day, purchased both items for their $99.00 sales price and only paid sales tax on the purchase price of $198.00. This wasn't the first time that deceptive ads and coupons were par for the course at Bryant's Ace Hardware in Oakhurst, CA. If you happen to shop at this store always check your receipts because they will take advantage of the unsuspecting customer. If it doesn't seem right, it probably isn't. read more

Very bad experience with the check out woman named Carly D. She stubbornly disregarded my request for regular "topsoil" and persisted in claiming I wanted "potting soil" she either didn't understand what topsoil is or has an attitude problem. Simply Awesome & Excellent Customer Service! Staff Member Will, greeted me in the parking lot and noticed my weed eater in hand. He eagerly surveyed my equipment and took charge with assisting in immediate repairs. Yes, right away! Within 5 - 10 minutes the spark arrester was cleaned/serviced and it was humming on all cylinders... Will's customer service was commendable. He identified the customer, saw my need and took action. The second I walked by the female employees, they dogged me. Imagine a row of women staring you down in consecutive order. This is what I experienced. Even the customers avoided me like the plague. They didn't want to cross my path or stand in the same aisle as me. Although the employees were verbally polite, don't think that I'm overreacting. I read body language well and I know racism when I see it. Communal racism though? That's a first for me. I couldn't get out of here fast enough. For the guy who called this whiny nonsense. I am not quick to pull the racism card and it is very rare when I do. I've not been Yelp Elite three consecutive years for nothing. Note I wasn't just "whining" about the employees, it was the customers as well. And I think you were implying that I was implying that I claimed racism because they weren't helpful, but that is so far off from what I wrote in my review. While planning an event (let alone a wedding) in Mariposa, it can be a little challenging to find the proper pieces - catering, rentals, etc. True Value came up on a wedding website as a rental location and although a little stunned, we were thankful that this location did in fact offer table and chair rentals!! MAJORLY affordable and easily located off of the main drag in Oakhurst, this location was a lifesaver for my sister's wedding. 5 stars for True Value! read more

If you are at all concerned about contracting the Novel Coronavirus, I would recommend staying away from the True Value Home Center in Oakhurst. I did learn that once/week they deliver free to my area... So if you can wait for your item... that might be a good option. However I was without water and needed a part to do a minor repair to my well. As a high risk male senior citizen with a heart condition, I've been pretty careful about sheltering in place for the past couple months. However, since I needed the part I decided to take my mask and hand sanitizer and head for True Value.On entering the store I was disappointment to find that few of the employees were wearing masks and there seemed little effort to enforce social distancing. As a retired Public Health Nurse I found this very uncomfortable. I ask to see the manager and expressed my concern... She was very polite but admitted that wearing masks by employees was optional. We all need to make some hard choices in this difficult time... For me, being at risk for experiencing a severe illness should I contract the virus... the best option will be to not return to the True Value for the foreseeable future.... read more

I have shopped here for many years. Recently I have been avoiding public since the entire pandemic began. I call weekly to place phone orders that this amazing store is offering FOR FREE to customers. They are obviously going above and beyond to help the community. I work with an associate named Amanda very frequently. She is always so sweet and often goes out of her way to insure that I am happy with each item. Even going as far as to follow up with me to see if I am in need of anything else. Also the garden assistant Bree is very informative. That is customer services you can not get anywhere besides a small town mom and pop shop. It is so very appreciated. The management and staff are so kind. It has to be very trying to deal with the virus on a daily base. Working with a scared and on edge public has to be hard and they are handling it with a grace I could not have guessed was possible. The Bryant's sure do know how to staff a great store. It says great things about the management when employees are so kind. 5 stars for my helpers at true value and the managers who support them. Please bring your buissnes to this small town gem. No need to go to the crowded cities. Thanks for the service you continue to provide. read more

After seven months of using this store, we are Done! Amazing rollover of staff, almost weekly it seems: inexperienced; poorly trained; final straw was a manager today (who I have never seen in seven months), claiming to help with a return: left to his office, returned to report loudly that I had only spent under $4k at their store, not the over $10k I stated: he did not ask how many accounts the purchases were made under; or the Ranch owners two separate accounts. I am managing a 150 acre horse Ranch being rebuilt ground up.. they not only lost our business: no contractor working here in the future will be reimbursed for $$ spent at this store.. and we are getting ready to install a six figure barn. Not only was this short grey bearded manager insulting; he stated many of my purchases were not shown in my Rewards Account, and it was most likely my fault, not a cashier forgetting to ask, or entering the wrong phone number.. where do businesses Find people like this??!! Have to agree with Anna, this TV seems to racially profile you and most recently the staff seems to be young and not customer service savvy. Have not seen a person of color work there. So what does that tell you. We have asked questions and never seem to get an direct answer we get words like ... Probably or I think ... So if you do not know the answer just say so or get someone that might know, don't leave us hanging and play the guessing game. Not much etiquette in this store but hey what to expect it is a hardware store right that always asks if they can help and at checkout they never fail to ask did someone provide you excellent service today....? Poor service. Tried to get a key made 9/9/15 at 12:50 pm. Rang buzzer several times as a line formed around me. When the lady finally showed up,and I ask for a key to be made, she gave me an ugly look and said , " it's going to take a while" and then said I could wait until she made keys for the people in line behind me. This is a family of stores, True Vallue and H & L Lumber where they are providing masks for their associates yet not insisting that they wear them. As a small business owner in the Oakhurst area that was shuttered and has lost significant income, it says to me simply that they do not care. The Bryant family is making money so why care about the health of the community. Now that there is a state mandate, let us see what nuance they hide behind now. I know I have a poster on my door from the county which states to be in business masks are to be worn when indoors by customers and employees. Really simple, just do it, for the health of our community. With the economy opening and more people moving about it is of even more consequence that we protect ourselves and others. My suggestion to all that are reading is not to use ANY store that does not take your health into consideration. Use your dollars elsewhere. read more

This is the second remodeled true value store I have visited in the foothills. They are very large and therefore carry a little bit of everything. They have a focus on the items locals would need like wood stove fuels. I even found small appliances and home decor. read more

Staff is friendly and helpful and prompt to ask if they can assist. I've never had to wait to track someone down. They have most of the basics of any hardware store and you can generally get what you need. Being they are the only game in town, they are a bit on the pricey side compared to other large chain stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. So some items we held off on till we make it down to Clovis/Fresno, the nearest large town. read more
