I usually am one to never leave a bad review, but I am extremely disheartened and disappointed by my recent visits to Dr. Horne's dental office. I originally went to Dr. Horne off of a referral from a friend because I was told he is an incredibly compassionate dentist, unfortunately that is not the temperament I was met with during my recent visits. I recently chipped my ten year old bonding on my tooth, to which Dr. Horne said was a simple fix. I let him know I just wanted the chip fixed (which there was tooth at the front and the back of the chip making it very clear where the chip started and ended). Before he begun his work he began speaking to the dental assistant about how he "disliked his daughter when she was around her friends asking him if he felt the same about his children". I thought this was pretty odd while it was happening, and it did not make me feel as though Dr.Horne was focused on the task at hand. Once he had finished and showed me the tooth I saw he had lengthened it quite substantially. This tooth was normally shorter than the one next to it and now it was longer. This completely threw off my bite and made me hit my teeth against each other for the following weeks. I came in for a follow up appointment for Dr.Horne to shorten the tooth as it was causing me pain constantly hitting my other teeth. I let him know I was feeling nervous to which he asked why I was feeling nervous dryly and clearly annoyed. I will say the dental assistant was amazing and really tried to put me at ease. I even said sorry for being annoying multiple times during the appointment to which he did not respond at all. My tooth is still hitting and will definitely still need this repaired, but I will definitely be going with a new dentist. My father also recently got some bonding fixed from Dr. Horne a few weeks ago, which has already completely broken off one tooth. He has also switched dentists. The dentist is a very vulnerable place for many people and I just wanted to feel heard. I guess that's why I'm writing this now. read more

I am probably NOT the best patient for dental work, based on a past, unpleasant experience....having had a molar extracted at 12 years if age, without any pain killers...as a result, dental work in the past has always made me nervous, But as you'll read below, based on my recent experience in Lias's care, not any more. I just had a Teeth Cleaning by Lisa S. I am reluctant to tell the reader how good it was, lest you actually believe me, and book all her time up, leaving me in the lurch. OK, I'll "fess" up. the experience was incredible. I have worked with a number of Hygenist from other practices in the past. This 2/24 experience was the best ever. I look forward to another session. We have been going to this practice for many years. The entire staff are competent and kind. Their abilities are top notch too. We have seen Michelle and others for cleanings. They are thorough and do a great job. Dr Horn is an amazing dentist. Given our whole family has seen him, each and every one would highly recommend him. They even have their own lab downstairs to make temporary crowns, etc. And last but not least, Melanie and Michelle at the front desk will always help you out with a huge smile on their faces and a positive attitude. Dr. Horne is without a doubt one of the best Dentists around. He is experienced and talented, plus has the ability to make you feel comfortable about the work you are needing to have done. Here's my story; it's Friday, and my girlfriend and I will be heading on a 2-week trip to Scotland and Ireland tomorrow (Sat) to see the country, and dance a little Argentine Tango in about 5 different cities. Last night I got a small chip in one of my two top front teeth, so time was of the essence to quickly find a dentist in the area who would fix this tooth, and smooth-out the other on such short notice. Granted, this wasn't an "emergency" but if this wasn't fixed I would have been self-conscious about my smile, especially with fellow travelers on the tour, and with other dancers at the tango events we're planning to attend. After contacting several dentists, I discovered most of them aren't open on Friday's, or reserve this day for more complex treatments. I called Dr. Horne in Encinitas who couldn't fit me in, but his staff took the time to contact another dentist on my behalf, who I ended up going with since they were about the only ones able to accommodate me on such short notice. It was disappointing that my hygienist of several years left..She was meticulous and never hurt me and my over sensitive teeth. The office did not call and tell me she had left as my appointment was drawing near. They just slipped me in with their new hygienist who felt completely unskilled -digging into my gums and pulling my mouth around like it was made of rubber.. I called several times trying to get the old hygienist's new place of employment, but they always made up excuses or didn't reply at all... I was told it was against the law to hold back the new place of employment like they did... I hope people have better luck with this group. I have been at this office for about 50 years starting with Dr. Benedict, and never had any problems like this. read more

Dr. Horne: Professional, skilled, and has great bedside manner. We had a dental emergency on a weekend; he was responsive and caring. Despite the stress we were experiencing, he helped us to feel calm and reassured. Office Staff: Helpful and responsive. They are able to work around our busy schedules, even offering weeknight appointments. They have helped us to navigate complicated insurance issues with ease. Hygienists: Professional and thorough. They also help to educate patients on proper dental care while at home. Overall: This is an excellent dental office. If you're searching for a dentist in the area, look no further. Not usually one to write reviews, but was impressed with my visit with Dr. Horne last night. Like most people I work during the day and appreciated the evening appt. and was there until they closed at 8pm! They didn't try to rush me out and Dr. Horne took his time and was meticulous in his work that he did on my tooth. I was never in pain and totally relaxed during the entire procedure. Also, Dr. Horne and his staff were easy to talk to and you can tell they enjoy their jobs. I highly recommend. He has already seen my daughter and will be sending my other kids as well! read more
