Dr Kania is amazing. She's a true scientist and beyond knowledgeable in her field. She looks for the root of the problem, not just a quick bandaid fix as a temporary solution. That's a much harder route to take- to understand why the issue is at hand, looking at one's lifestyle for changes, habits developed, genetic reasons, etc- and she's dedicated to it. I was not notified that the regular hygienist is sick. I was told only when I got the office spending 1 hour in a traffic. I was told that another very GOOD hygienist will be doing the cleaning. The experience was horrible, this person almost burned my lips and injured my gums. Once theh find out you have no insurance only emergency medical The way of treatment is different, and even when i told the nurse how much the cost of a route canal is she said she didnt know. And avoided me like if i didnt have money or didnt even explain if they have any type of payment plans or i can add my wife insurance or anything they make you feel hopeless and she just said take motrin for pain WTF so i end up with nothing done a chiped tooth kneed a crown and tooth replacement and all she said in the end was and also he has gum disease. I have been driving more than 6 hours (3 hours one way) for each of my appointments just to see Dr. Kania and it has been so very worth it. Dr. Kania came highly recommended by my dentist after having continued infections and bone loss over many years. I had been seeing 2 different specialists in my home town and after having other procedures done and the infection still present, I was finally told I would likely have to have several teeth removed, with no solid, clear plan of how to permanently replace those teeth with the significant bone loss that had occurred. Instead, I followed my dentist's advice and saw Dr. Kania for a second opinion. I am now 5 weeks post-op, still have my own teeth and no sign of infection. I have not had my teeth and gums without swelling/pain/infection for at least 4 years, likely longer, and I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have been cared for by Dr. Kania. She and her staff (my contact was mostly with Kelly and Jocelyn) were just absolutely amazing, very patient and compassionate. I have pretty severe anxiety when it comes to dental work, even cleanings, and they were so understanding and kind. Dr. Kania even personally checked on me the night after my surgery to make sure I was OK. My insurance had almost capped, so I was paying out of pocket, but they were helpful and filed my insurance anyway so that I could get the contracted amounts and the final cost wasn't nearly as bad as I was originally expecting. I will continue seeing Dr. Kania, as I believe her expertise is what will keep my mouth as healthy as possible and hopefully prevent any future complications. read more

I was referred to Dr. Kania for a crown lengthening which my dentist hadn't made seem like it was a big ordeal in my mild case. I go into consult to be told my the dentist (who took about 10 seconds to look at my mouth, no gum check or anything) to tell me there was a chance my tooth would have to be extracted, I HAD to take valium the night before and morning of surgery, it would be about 2.5-3 hours of surgery, it would be 3 weeks of mushy food and it was a pretty serious thing. I was pretty scared, not to mention the way she casually kept saying that the insurance would only pay what they would and I'd still have to pay extra, even though I asked if she was in network, weren't there negotiated rates? Basically I calculated that I would have paid about $600 out of pocket going to her. I ended up going to a much nicer and better periondonttist, who took xrays and did a complete gum check at consultation and that PLUS surgery was only $100 out of pocket. That dr. looked at me like i was cookoo when I said I know there's a good chance my tooth will be extracted and that it's 3 weeks with mushy foods,etc. He took xrays to give me a very good reassurance that unless something freaky happened no tooth extraction would be needed. Turns out it was a 45 min procedure with just normal numbing, stitches were out in 7 days and after 3 days I was able to chew on the perfectly good other side of mouth, so thankfully I could eat pretty normal the same week. I know from the referral that Dr. Kania is a good surgeon, and they need to inform you about the risks of the surgery, but the bedside manner was awful, I left there feeling very upset and wished it was a root canal instead cause it sounded so serious. The other periodontist made me feel much more comfortable with the procedure and didn't gauge me on rates, and also had very good reviews. For me it's important to feel comfortable with the doctor as well as knowing they have skill to perform it correctly. read more

Jocelyn, again, was so helpful and even helped guide my mom to a pharmacy to pick up some medication for me post-procedure. Kelly was so nice and a genuinely calming and reassuring presence. Dr. Kania finished the procedure even more quickly than anticipated and provided very clear post care instructions and products. I also appreciated that they scheduled my appointments for follow up that same day and sent me home with a little appt card. She followed up with me herself later that day! I received a call from someone at the office for the two days following the procedure just to check in. All in all, my post-op care has been exceptional and I have felt informed and supremely cared for through the entire experience. I actually did not have any work done by dr Kania, but if there was a chance of me doing it, well it ended the moment their goal is MONEY MONEY MONEY.. I know they are not a charity office, but when I called to make a "consultation" appointment they did not tell me that I would have to pay, or how much.. after the first talk, the doctor said that I needed XRays for her to determine whatever, and the price was $ 197.00... I decided not to go ahead with the xray and try to get them from my previous doctor.. As I check out I am presented with a $ 178.00 bill .. I paid, but I am not going back... Honestly, I did not mean to waste anybody's time, and I would have expected a $ 55.00 charge.. like everybody else in North County.. Well... Maybe a piece of "unrequested" advice: when a new patience calls for a consultation, let them know right away that there is such a high charge.. read more

I had advanced level periodontal dieses and after a long search on the internet I decided to make an appointment with Dr Ann Meneo Kania. Their office has modern equipment to take all relevant x-rays, plus the Doctor performed a detailed physical inspection of each tooth. She explained to us in detail periodontal disease and gave us options to explore. While traditional dentistry procedure would suggest that all my teeth be extracted and permanent dentures be implanted, Dr Kania gave us the LANAP procedure option, with the prime focus being : how can we save our original teeth while finishing the disease. The hope of saving my teeth seemed no less than a miracle at that time and it's hard to explain how grateful I was and did not know how to thank Dr Kania. Ten days later, she performed a 4 and a half hour LANAP procedure to clean out all my teeth, with minimal pain. The level of attention and care I received was exceptional. The office gave us a complete list of after-procedure care instructions and answered even the smallest or the silliest question we had on post-op care. The doctor even called me after a few hours to personally check how I was doing. I was given several appointments to continue the post op care for my teeth. To be honest I have hardly seen a dental practice as co-operative and accommodating as Dr Kania Office. I've been going to see Dr. Kania for several years now to keep my periodontal disease in check. I have had a couple of tissue grafts to restore my teeth to a more natural look. I no longer have that long of tooth smile. She has done an exceptional job and I have been very pleased with the end result. She is more than willing to help alleviate your pre-surgery anxiety; one Valium the night before, one the morning before the procedure and I could care less that my teenage son was driving me to my appointment. She is also very good at giving those pre-surgery injections to numb the surgery site which is probably the worst part of any procedure. To make the time pass quickly, I listen to my iPod while she and her assistant do the surgery. Her office staff is also great ... kudos to her assistant, Christine and the receptionist, Nicole.
