Dr. Seul is excellent -- he doesn't push extra surgeries on people and he really knows his stuff. I thought his bedside manner is great too. Like most good oral surgery offices, they take money up front and then bill your insurance. The only thing I wish were different is the process of getting your money back if the insurance paid the doctor instead of the patient. As an osteoporosis patient who takes prolia, I knew that I had to select an oral surgeon who keeps current with research and recommended protocols and who would work with my endocrinologist as a team. Dr. Seul is just that type of oral surgeon. He is highly skilled and knowledgeable and has impeccable credentials and excellent communication skills. He discussed my care with my physician to come up with a treatment plan that minimized risks from both of their perspectives. He is also extremely compassionate and kind and his calming demeanor helped to lessen my fears about the extraction. I met Dr. Seul in 2001 when I needed three dental implants. Since I live in Point Loma, he was quite a drive from my home, there are other oral surgeons much closer to me, and I honestly can't remember why I chose to make such a long drive back then, but I did. That said, Dr. Seul and his staff were very impressive and did a great job. I was very happy with the results. Now, here it is 2018 and I need an additional implant. My local dentist here in the Point Loma area told me he knows a great oral surgeon locally, so I suspect the local guy is good. It would have been less of a trip, less of a hassle, etc. to just go there. However, I chose to go back to Dr. Seul. He did such a great job before, and was so professional, I just felt why risk my health to someone I don't know? So I went with Dr. Seul again. My son had such a great experience in this office with wisdom teeth removal that we decided to bring our youngest daughter here to have her wisdom teeth removed. Just as before the office was very professional up beat and Jan actually remembered us from when our son came in. Our daughter was terrified that she was going to go to sleep and not wake up, the Assistant was very reassuring and understanding of our daughters fear. Our daughter told us that they walked her through every step and they were very compassionate and before she realized what was happening she was waking up. She had very little pain and we controlled that with the medication given. The assistant was once again very detailed with post op instructions and same as our son they took her down in the wheelchair. I came back recently for work with my daughter and the staff was awful, actually humiliating because of my request to use insurance. There are many other choices in North County. My daughter recently had her wisdom teeth taken out here and she had the best experience! Dr. Seul was so informative, attentive and skilled. Before the surgery, she was a little scared hearing about her friends experiences at other offices, but Danee was so kind to her which really helped ease her nerves. She also did a great job of comforting her after the surgery! A few of my daughter's friends and her had wisdom teeth surgeries around the same time, and we would definitely say that her experience was the most positive and her recovery time was the quickest, even with one impacted tooth. She was able to eat solid food the next day and the swelling went down in a day and a half. She saw the dentist for a cleaning a couple weeks after the surgery, and she said that Dr. Seul did a fantastic job and was surprised the holes had closed that quickly. BEWARE!! DR. John Seul maybe okay if everything goes well but he has no clue on how to diagnosis or manage a complication that may occur during his procedure. I underwent a extraction of a molar after which I continued to complain of persistent burning, nail-like pain within the extraction site and adjacent healthy teeth next to the extraction. Over the next 16 months I saw him with these complaints and his response was he did not know why I was having so much pain even though nothing had showed up on my x-rays. Following his advice I had 3 more teeth extracted because of pain and one implant placed all which proved to be uncecessary as he failed to recognize a complication known as nueropathy that he had caused with the first extraction. After all this there still was no resolution of the pain and the implant could not be used because it made my pain worse. No evaluation and no work-up for the cause was ever ordered. WRONG!!! Finally I went to see a different Dentist and surgeon for a second opinion who both diagnosed me with a nerve injury related to the first extraction. They both referred me for a nuerologic evaluation confirming nerve injury related to his extraction procedure. This is a complication listed on his consent form describing pain as a symptom following an extraction causing a nerve injury. Clearly he has not read his own consent form. I have been told by a dental oral pain specialist at Cedars Sinai that this should never have happened and that a knowledgeable surgeon should have at the very minium referred me to a nuerologist and no additional extractions should have been preformed based on my symptoms. NEVER HAPPENED!!! He even missed an infection at the site of one of his surgeries. There are three major complications of tooth extraction and he missed 2 of them- nerve injury and infection. My life is now terrible with 4 missing teeth and severe nueropathic pain which has been diagnosed as Trigmenal Neuralgia which could of been avoided if he was competent enough to recognize my symptoms earlier or at all. Due to his failure of not recognizing my injury I may never have teeth again. I live with pain that is present 24 hours a day often disabling in intensity. I have to take anti-seizure medications that are used for Trigeminal Nueralgia which have adverse side effects that I continually experience so severe at times that I had to go the emergency room. To this day he never admitted he did any wrong doing even though he received the second opinion consults stating my diagnosis nor did he even call to apologize. His only concern was to tell me that everything he had done looked good, my complaints had nothing to do with care and he had no idea why I was having so much pain. I WOULD NEVER WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANOTHER PATIENT!! He may have an MD after his name. This is negligent care!! AVOID AVOID AVOID ' read more

Be careful about their billing practices. I went in for a dental implant and was quoted $2400. By the time I left my bill was more than double that. One add on after another, that I was not aware of. I believe the surgery was competently performed but I was very unhappy, not only with the bill, but how it was handled. Nobody returned calls and when I finally reached someone it was clear they were just going through the motions and not listening to what I was saying. Any range of costs they give you will always be the absolute maximum, no matter how well the procedure went. I would recommend looking elsewhere unless you want to pay absolute top dollar. read more

I had a consultation with Dr Seul and was reassured that extracting my wisdom teeth was a better option to filling the cavity. I had one of the four already removed at another location and explained how it was a terrible experience. they could not keep me under so I was awake for the 5 hours it took them to remove one tooth. Amy roots are long, thin, curvy, and close to the nurve. Dr. Seul told me that he would have the three teeth out with 1.5 hours and I wouldn't remember a thing.He pointed out my roots in the new xrays and said he understood why the other dentist had troubles, but he deals with this all the time and should be no problem. I was charged for that consultation and the xrays that day. I show up to my 7:45am appointment 15 minutes early with my wife. 7:50 Am another man shows up for his 8:00 am appointment. At 8:11 am they take him back and we are still waiting. 8:20 they call me back and prep me for the Dr. Seul. I'm waiting for awhile and the nurse keeps leaving to check to see if the doctor is still on the phone or not. Eventually Dr. Seul comes in does not express any concernes or warn me of potential issues. Just gets the sedation rolling and starts work. I'm still awake.... and they didn't do a good job numbing the area..... it was painful. After 2hours I leave with a wisdom tooth still I'm my mouth!! Didn't tell me why and did tell my wife why until 8hours later. "It was difficult removing your teeth and your roots are close to your nerve." Well... duh... why did I pay for the consultation? Was it just so you could tell my lies and build my faith in you just so you could take my money? As a professional why didn't you call me any time between the consultation and day of surgery to share your concerns? or even today before you started working on my face? Last but not least, The one wisdom tooth I wanted extracted the most is the only one I have left. read more
