A great place to buy a gift for that interesting person in your life who already has everything. Lots of cool and unique items here that you can't find anywhere else. I've purchased a number of items here over the years both for me and as gifts for others. Everyone loved the items I gifted and I always receive compliments on the ones I've kept for myself. Even if you're not shopping for anything or anyone in particular, stop in to browse their selection! read more

We are thrilled with the wonderful service afforded by Sterling Place. My wife had purchased a globe that spins on its own with light. It suddenly stopped working. Although the manufacturer did not want to replace it, Robert at Sterling Place stepped up and said he would give us a new globe at no cost to replace the defective one. We now again have a beautiful working globe. It is a great conversation piece in our living room. And whenever we look at it, we are reminded what an honorable and class act Robert is and how great Sterling Place is. Thank you so much Robert!!! read more

We just bought this table and quickly discovered that the owner marked up the price by $80-90. Not cool! Why wouldn't you give your customers the opportunity to buy at market value?! No integrity at all! Will not be coming back to this store. It's got cute things, but as we've learnt can definitely find it all at a better value elsewhere. Very very disappointing! You can't return for a refund, just store credit. read more

Sterling Place - Home Decor Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Very, very mixed feelings. The selection is solid given that it's not a huge place, so it is absolutely worth stopping in. Additionally, the first time my girlfriend and I walked in to look around, a man helped us look at some things, and he was terrific. Among other things, he showed us a bookshelf that we really liked, but needed to think about because it was pricy for us (not a bad value, just pricy). Did't try to hard sell us on anything, but was also incredibly helpful. After thinking about the bookshelf for a bit more than a week, we decided to get it. We were in another part of town, but hopped in an Uber to make it before closing yesterday so that we could take it home (it's on wheels, and we live a couple of blocks away) and finish setting up a room. Me: we'd like to buy that bookshelf. Her: we can set up delivery for you. Me: actually, we just live down the street, we'd like to roll it out of here. Her: oh... could you maybe come back later in the week? Me: i'm out of town for work this week, but, huh, i guess we could come back next weekend... Not sure we will. I don't mean this out of spite (because that would just be stupid), but because my gf now wants to look at additional options since "we didn't get it set-up before you left for the week anyway." So... averaging the 5 and 1, it's a 3 for service. But while it's a 5 for selection, I only gave this a 3 overall because of the "do I now have to spend another day looking at bookshelves?" factor. read more

Cool and classy. A trip here is like stepping into the pages of a fancy home-decorating magazine. It's part of the stretch of antique and home stores on this part of Atlantic Avenue, and it's the store I'd be most likely to make a purchase from during a day of shopping there. It does have beautiful old pieces for sale, but it's really more of a well-designed gift store, with a selection of tasteful, fun, and whimsical items suitable for kids and adults. Give a gift from here and it will really stand out. Or leave empty-handed yet inspired by the smart decor and the thought and care that have clearly gone into this place. read more

I like this place and have bought a few "gems" from them. They carry a number of eclectic, old school, "antiqu-ish"/ vintage items or items that are designed to "look" vintage...all good. The owner has 2 locations, the other being in South Park slope. I like this one a little better even though they carry 80-95% of the same stuff... The owner looks for and finds odd, rare and older items that are restored or purchases from companies that make items that have a classic feel and touch to them ( men's shaving kits, globes, table clocks, gadgets with leather pouches, folding travel hangers, watches, stair and yacht models and even stationary). The items are typically decent and of good quality usually. I would say there are not any "cheap" or flimsy items in this store. They all tend to be of good or better quality. So if you need a nice gift for someone, I would recommend this store - especially for men, in my opinion... I like think of this shop as a good place to start for Father's Day or for gifts for someone who "has everything"....it is sort of a , pardon the expression, a "Sharper image" type store but with better, classic tastes... You'll find the overpriced grill or cutlery set, but it will likely be of better quality with a "vintage/ classic" feel to it. You won't find any "necessities", but you'll find yourself needing that cool thing on the table display. And it will likely last longer than the 'Sharper Image" crap. I would say as many things on Atlantic Avenue, the prices are probably about 15 - 20% higher than I would like, BUT I have never left there with a purchase I was disappointed with. The rent is high on Atlantic Avenue so I am sympathetic to store owners there... So right after you pay, you forget about it and move on...Now some of the mass produced stuff can be found online for less, but the real good purchases are those unique items the owner finds and restores. You have to go regularly to make sure you don't miss out on those items... read more

This is just a quick supplement to my other review of Sterling Place (Park Slope store). Again, still a fan, but there is something about this location that lacked the magic of the other store. I can't really put my finger on it, but maybe it just felt more cluttered, or less consistently awesome in what was on offer? I really can't say. Still a great store, and we of course found a bunch of stuff we wanted, but I think I still prefer the Park Slope location. I should also add that all the staff that I've ever dealt with at either location have been super friendly, helpful and willing to answer any questions I've had. read more

I ordered a pair of Moroccan-style denim floor poufs for my apartment and had an excellent experience working with Rob, the owner. He offered a price that was significantly better than what I was finding online, hand-delivered the merchandise to my home after work (I do not work from home) at a time that worked for my busy schedule. Notably, he was very communicative and understanding as we coordinated the delivery. Rob really showed his appreciation for my business! 5 stars for excellent communication and service. read more

This is the perfect store to shop at when you need a great gift. The price range is great so you can be thoughtfully cheap or lavish. I always leave with something just right for the recipient. My husband loves his razor with the antique ivory handle and his antique pocket watch. They have beautiful crafts and lovely unique antiques. Never been disappointed. And they gift wrap. read more

So, I used to be a fan of this store because they had unique items that made for good gifts. They would cost you a little more (like $30 for a candle or $50 for a small decorative plate), but they were original. HOWEVER, my fiance and I decided to register there, as well as the usual big name stores. We spent about 2 hours going around making a list of the items we would like listed on our registry, and and we were told by the salesman that there website was currently down, but he will take pictures of the items and upload them, and it would be up in a few days. We asked if there was anything else we needed to do, and he told us we were all set. Now its 6 weeks later, the bridal shower passed and their website still isn't up. OK, no big deal, that's why we gave people three registry options. But then I come to find out that a friend went to the store because she knew we had registered there. They told her that they could not seem to find any record of our registry. A week later, they email her to say that they have made attempts to contact us because we needed to set up an online account. And as you can guess, no one ever contacted me or my fiance. This is what pissed me off... if you f@ck up take responsibility, don't blame the customer. So if you are registering, leave it to the big stores that do it all the time, not Sterling Place because they haven't a clue. UPDATE: After the owners read my review here, they contacted my wife. I guess our registry was either the only one they had taken, or it was the only one they screwed up. The owner was very apologetic and took full responsibility for the way our registry was mismanaged. As a peace offering, a $100 store credit was extended to us. So we are now the owner's of a beautiful picnic-set backpack. read more

Any time you need an idea for a unique and inexpensive gift (especially when you have no idea what to get) stop here first! Perfect place to find things that you would never find anywhere else, and all at great prices. Beautifully presented merchandise with a helpful staff! read more

I really like this place. Aside from the fact that Atlantic Ave is great for antique stuff, this place has a great mix of stuff. If you come to my house you will fell like you're visiting grandma's with all the vintage and antique stuff we have too. No plastic covering our chairs though! Anyhow, this store has great finds starting from old bookcases, steamer trunks, to shaving implements made from antique ivory and silver utensil handles and the like. The best is that they are housed in a great space with these "door" like things on the ceiling, with a whole bunch of pre-warish detailing. Even the door knob when you come into the store is great! Very light, open space although they have tons of stuff. The only problem is that they are a tad pricey and I being the kind of person that gets turned on by bargains, find it hard to imbibe too often. read more

What a great place and what treasures I found there! This place was like walking into my Grandma's so many wonderful antiques. The only thing I didn't like was that I had gone to the store on the tuesday before Xmas and returned 5 days later to find something I that was priced at $45. originally was now $58. I felt like they price gouged for the holidays but other than that it was very nice. They had modern cook books ect but generally it was a lovely place with decent prices considering. read more

Besides being an incredible store with extremely attractive items, I had a very positive noteworthy experience recently that I'd like to recount. I purchased a large iron and teak bookshelf and it didn't fit into my apartment. The owner very generously offered to build a new one in dimensions that would fit into my apartment. I was in an absolute panic after the original bookshelf wouldn't fit into my apartment - and all my fears were extinguished when I was told I would end up with the exact bookshelf in slightly smaller dimensions so it would fit! It was so refreshing to have someone deal with a situation like that in such a flexible manner. I highly recommend Sterling Place not just because it has an incredible inventory, but because everyone who works there is a pleasure to deal with. read more

The store used to be great. Some of the " antique " items end up being from the 40s and 50s. And the prices have gone up a lot. Its kind not worth it anymore. They have nice stuff its just to expensive. Its a nice little store but it could be better. read more

They sell Biosphere's here if you're ever looking for one. 4 stars just because I found exactly what I was NOT looking for and love watching the shrimps do their thing~ read more

While this location may be a bit more cramped than the Garfield/7th store, it is literally overflowing with fantastic gifts, decorations ideas and treasures! It's a mixture of antiques and modern gifts, but everything meshes so well you can pair the new stuff with the old easily. The associates are mostly willing to help you hunt down the perfect gift or pairing of items, as well. I have encountered one or two fairly indifferent or even surly employees, but they seem to have vanished in the last year. Mostly everyone is very accommodating, willing to order almost anything for us, and have some of the best items for a tiny Brooklyn apartment you can find! Jane went above and beyond to help us hunt down the perfect dining table for our space among their inventory and to help us get our home wet bar set up with all of the essentials. The items are pricey, but they are also amazing quality and if anything breaks, they will go above and beyond to try and replace it for you. We brought back an olive wood bowl that had a crack in it. The employee there was concerned about the quality of the other bowls from that order, and offered us a different bowl (which we ended up liking even more) instead! Truly a gem! read more

sterling place is a lovely shop with oodles of pretty gifty things. don't expect any brightly colored plastic or uber-cutesy stuff, though. very classic, refined and more organic offerings. beautiful dishes and glassware, globes, maps, antique hutches, ostrich eggs and lots of other treasures. i'm a bit of a problem shopper and there was a lot here that i haven't run across before. prices run the gamut from a $12 clever and highly stylized mini-planner to a beautiful map of new york platter for $125. wonderful place-on the list for my holiday shopping. read more

It's a shame, because this is a great store with unusual items. However, the owner, Robert (I believe his name is) is so unfriendly. They have 2 stores in Brooklyn & rather than trying to create a nice image for themselves in the neighborhood & trying to draw more customers, they have absolutely no sense in business! They may not last if they continue with that sort of attitude... My experience has been so bad that I'll never go back again! read more

I love this store! It has so many interesting and beautiful things, and every time I go in I feel like I'm in a modern day curiosity shop. I bought two really lovely vases for a friend's housewarming a few months ago and she absolutely loved them. Then yesterday I was walking past and noticed a fabulous Russian doll set--8 pieces, made of wood, and really well priced. I never get tired of going in to see what new items they have. All are very gift worthy, and they also do beautiful gift wrap as I noticed from the girl who checked out right before me. All in all, one of my favorite stores in the area. read more

I never write reviews, but I will for Sterling Place b/c on several occasions they have gone the extra mile. Agreed with many of the postings: it is a great gift shop, with lots of unique things (new and antique) that can satisfy anyone from your toddler, your grandma to your lover. It also has a lot of wonderful things to make your home unique. But I also appreciate how well they take care of their customers. We bought a clock from them. It had a pendulum. Our toddler loved it... climbed a chair... and swiped it down. It broke. We called Sterling Place to see if it could be replaced. The clock had been discontinued by the manufacturer, but they called the manufacturer anyway and asked and they were willing to make us another pendulum. The charge for all this: $0. Can't be beat. read more

My husband and I love this store. There are always interesting things some practical and some not to look at. We recently registered with them for our wedding through maxwellsilverny.com. They were so helpful throughout- they held onto our gifts so we could pick them up after the craziness of wedding and honeymoon settled down and were quick to be in contact with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. It was a great experience read more

This place is great. It has super high quality, diverse pieces. I recently bought a really interesting bookcase from here and the manager was incredibly kind and helped me walk the piece about 10 minutes away from the store. So definitely five stars for customer service. I will definitely be going back! read more

Negative story turned very positive for the Park Slope store. Last summer I purchased a special order item for my grandma's 90th bday. (my grandma's name was going to be put in a book). I ordered a month ahead to ensure plenty of time. I was told it would be ready in a few weeks. It wasn't ready on time, though the manager contacted me prior to let me know he would tell me when it would be ready (though at that point he hadn't anticipated it being late). After some time, no one was contacting me to let me know it was ready so when I went in there to see what was going on and the employees couldn't give me answers. I went in again when the manager was there and I was prepared to be nasty about it (the birthday party was coming up) but he couldn't have been lovelier. He apologized and said the company preparing the book was continually late on their orders and Sterling Place would take this product off the shelves (and I believe they did). He gave me the book for free plus $50 to spend in the store. In addition he offered to wrap and ship the book to my grandma when it was ready. So I used the extra money to buy a nice picture frame and presented my grandma with a family picture in the frame. She was thrilled. Then on top of that she received this other great gift a week or two later with her name in it (a bound NY Times newspaper from the day she was born). Jim, the manager at Sterling Place was very professional, quickly rectified the situation and turned me into a very happy customer. They have beautiful eclectic items and I will definitely shop there again. read more

I have to say I've found my new favorite store. I had been searching for a Valentines day gift for my boyfriend for some time and many of the Brooklyn boutiques just don't offer great gifts for men. When I walked into sterling place I couldn't believe the wonderful selection they offer in both new and vintage items. The staff is very helpful and I ended up finding the perfect gift for him. This is now my goto place for gifts. read more

i was trying to find out if this store still had something in stock that I had seen in the window recently and i must have called 25 times on different days during store hours and no one answers. just for shits and giggles i also tried calling the park slope store and emailed both but alas, no one got back to me. not very service oriented. read more
