In December 2020, I went in and was treated royally...And, go the best fitting pair of glasses. Then, they broke earlier this week. I called, was given an immediate appointment, and multiple options for how to repair and/or replace these glasses. I chose repair, at 1/6th of the original cost...So, I saved a lot of money because of Suzette's suggestion...And, 16 hours after dropping off my glasses, I could see again. This has never happened. I was sold contact lenses outside of the box. I received 10 pairs for $23. Usually a 30-day supply of the Acuvue Moist 1-Day cost around $33 in store and $20 online. I was in a bind and needed contacts fast, and they had my prescription in stock. However, the cost and the fact that they were out of the box made me feel that I was sold samples to make a profit. I was in a rush and it didn't dawn on me that they should have been in a box. It is illegal to sell samples. Nor does Acuvue offer a 10-pack. So now I am a little concerned with my purchase. Additionally, if I hadn't checked the box, I would have received -1.75 for my left eye rather than -2.75 as my prescription states. I recently have moved to the UWS and was hoping to find a local place in my neighborhood. I am disappointed that this location was willing to lose a regular customer in order to make a small profit. I did feel this was serious enough to email Acuvue about the matter. I am awaiting their response and will then proceed to file a complaint with the BBB if I feel it is necessary. read more

I've been going to sterling optical on Walt Whitman road in Huntington since I was 7 years old. I am now 51. They've always been pleasant and ultra accommodating. I went there today and it was all new people. The new doctor was fumbling around with all the equipment but was a nice guy. He said it was his first day filling in and was unfamiliar with everything. I asked what my insurance covered and the guy behind the counter said you can pick anything in the store. My son picked out the frames he liked the best and went in for his exam. When he was done with the exam the doctor gave the guy the prescription and he showed me a receipt of what everything was going to cost. It was 3 times what I expected so I told him I'll make an appointment for an exam for my wife and I during the week and we can discuss the price then. He kept wanting to explain to me why everything cost so much and I kept telling him that he can speak to my wife during the week when we come for our exam. I said we are probably going to get our glasses from somewhere else and asked for a copy of the prescription. For the first time in my life I was told no. At this point I knew he was frustrated and was starting to get nasty and what seemed spiteful. I asked him why do you have to be like that. He turned around and called me a fag and a cuk and started screaming at me calling me a pussy. Thank god im older and I had my son with me or I would've gotten into trouble. I've been going to that store for 44 years and not until today have I ever had a bad experience. read more

First off, I'm super picky when it comes to doctors and anything of a medical nature as I've have been to my fair share of rude, dismissive places and doctors in all fields. Sterling is different. I have been going to Sterling since I was in grade school and I'm 41 now which should tell you how much I love this place and how wonderful all the staff are. The doctor at Sterling is thorough & takes the time to answer all your questions and shows she cares. The staff who has remained the same for years as well, are always gracious dealing with all the insurance questions and issues which have been a few since my insurance has changed quite a few times. They really take the time to help me find the right frames for my face, and their choices have turned out to be the ones I always get compliments on. The technician or frame doctor as I like to call him has always taken the time to fix my glasses when I have come in with a problem after accidentally sitting on them which happened more when I was younger. They are all very knowledgeable and Love their job, which shows in the warm welcoming way they treat you the minute you walk in. Let the buyer beware! I went to this store with prescription in hand to use my insurance benefit for one pair of glasses. The store manager, so highly praised by other customers (cousins? relatives? neighbors?) informed me that my plan requires that I get both a new frame and the lenses. This was not true, but would have enabled her to bill the insurance company both for a new frame and for the lenses. She also told me that if I wanted to reuse my own frame, it would cost me $100 out of pocket. This was also untrue: I have reused frames with new lenses under the same insurance plan at other eyeglass providers with no charge to me. I withdrew this order and placed it with another optical provider that operates under acceptable ethical standards. read more

Suzette is always available and she provides true personalized care, which is so difficult to find anywhere nowadays. A few weeks ago, I found a pair of glasses I loved in another store but I had a feeling the representative was being dishonest with me and trying to grossly overcharge me, so I wrote down the specifics of the glasses and checked with Suzette at Sterling Optical.
