As transplants from another state, and BBQ not being our first language, we wanted to try new things! They came to the table and we were all sort of perplexed. Were they supposed to look like...that? Either way, we dug in. They were cold in the middle, also a strange discovery to us. I ordered the burnt ends, which came to the table closer to cold than warm. The blue cheese potato salad was tasty and all it needed was a lil salt and pepper to make it perfect. All was going well, until my husband was about 4-5 bites into his brisket wrap. He asked me to smell it, and I did. It was funky! Smelled a lot like a foot and not a lot like a tortilla. He asked the server to smell it and they agreed it was a bit odd. The manager came over and denied it smelling like anything. My husband had finished his meal, and we weren't looking for a freebie but wanted to let them know it was a lil weird. Instead of acknowledging the potential issue, we were dismissed as "wrong." It just didn't sit right with me. My husband had some definite issues in the hour or two after eating, so we won't be back. I won't say it was food poisoning because genuinely it could have just not agreed with my husband. I'll put my disclaimer on here, I hope people do enjoy and continue to patronize this small business, it's just not to my liking.

I wasn't in a rush to go back, but I did want to make sure to give them another try after some time had passed, in case the initial impression had been made prior to them ironing out any unforeseen issues as a new business. Recently, I tried their mac and cheese, burnt ends, potato salad, and beans. It's good. ...Just not amazing. The food seems fresh, the place always seems clean. The younger man that owns/runs the place is very nice. The parking can sometimes be an issue because they're located in a small trip mall connected to an apartment complex. Their prices are also just a little expensive in my humble opinion. The BBQ sauce isn't really anything to write home about. I would say that Off The Hook provides a very solid choice for BBQ in the northland. I like it better than F325 BBQ, Scott's Kitchen, and Wolfpack BBQ. It's similar in level to Char Bar, and maybe Oklahoma Joe's, but falls short to Q39. And I think it still has a way to go to beat Jack Stack BBQ.

Brisket was unwrapped near our table and was dripping juices - spice rub and doneness was right on. The meat was so tender and flavorful that I didn't really need P&F's BBQ Sauce- which was also very good and a bit different from traditional KC style sauce. Pork Burnt ends aren't my favorite but these were tasty, very well spiced and were complimented well by the P&F sauce. While I thought the brisket was the star of the show, the smoked and fried chicken wings were a close second to the brisket and seemed very popular with the crowd at Discourse. When chicken is smoked well, it carries the smoky taste throughout tender and juicy meat and these were smoked well. Can't forget Discourse Brewing, I tried their Used 8 track Dortmunder Lager. I like German style lagers and pilsners and this choice well complimented P&Fs BBQ. Before finishing for the evening I had a Platinum Label "I'm a Dinosaur" Helles - it was light and not too hoppy. I'd have both again. Wednesday is Trivia Night at Discourse and while I didn't stay for it, the place was packed an hour before trivia started. All in all a great evening. If you like BBQ, Beer or trivia or want to hit a trifecta - try Discourse Brewing on a Wednesday night!

They were so helpful and helped so much with planning out the catering, I had waited two weeks before the wedding before picking catering and they were great with communication. My venue at The Barn at Killcreek Farm required liability insurance and their business license, Heather was great with communication and sent me things very quickly when asked. Most of our communication was through facebook and email. She made it very easy to pay, I was able to pay for it from the ease of my computer at home. She offered meeting in person but my schedule was very busy before the wedding. She let me know of the set up time and they were ready to serve even before the wedding started. They had a beautiful set up with black table covers and a lovely buffet serving style. Both her and her husband kept the food stocked and it was always hot and moist. Our meats included: Pulled Pork with Buns, Brisket and Chicken. Our sides: BBQ Beans, Green bean cassrole and Scalloped Potatoes. Heather was preparing plates for both bride and groom (I was the bride) just in case we had no chance to eat. She also offered to take care of the desserts that we had brought, including the option of icing our cookie cake if needed. She transported all our cookies from our containers to serving plates and did everything so sanitary, including wearing gloves. I appreciated every aspect that both Heather and Scott brought. Our guests loved the food and talked about it all through the night, I personally really loved the BBQ beans and the pulled pork. She brought containers for me to take home the leftovers and was very accommodating. My two young nephews were at the wedding and wanted to help the caterers, Heather and Scott were both very kind and patient with them. Heather and Scott both did the set up and clean up, it was completely stress free. I would highly recommend them for any wedding/event. Our event was 75 people.

It's in a business strip so at first glance you wouldn't think it's a restaurant, however the big yellow and blue sign directs you to the spot. I'd heard for quite some time about how good the homemade beef sausage is and the Jack burger in particular so I thought it was time I tried it for myself. I ordered both and had beans to accompany them. All I can say is the food was eaten in the car on the way home and I ate both meats with only a lil bite of the burger left!!! The food speaks for itself folks. They also have ribs which I hear are so tasty and tender & better-than-ever brisket. Can hardly wait to try them. The sides are slaw, potato salad, fries & beans. Omg, I enjoyed my meal tremendously...it was sooo sooo good & reminds me of a popular staple in KCK on 10th and Walker that made sausages very similar. It was 'the place' to be every Friday back in the day! Hez's BBQ, second to none & simply unforgettable!!! The restaurant is nice & clean & serves as more of a walk in/pick up. There are no tables to sit and eat, but it's alright with me. I don't mind carry out. They also have a cool food truck that sits adjacent to Sams Club on North Oak several days a week & it travels to various places throughout the city, too. The service is wonderful and the owner/staff are great people. I know KC is known for it's great bbq and one could easily go just about anywhere in the city, but please stop in and give Arthur's a try. No one comes close to his homemade sausage which he sells uncooked as well. He's definitely mastered the 'Art' of superb Q. Mouth watering food awaits you. Hop to it, people. I quickly forgot about my corporate chain destination and pulled over to see what was up with the bright blue and yellow truck, pulling a large smoker . Arthur was manning the smoker and his 2 sons were handling the prep area and register. Arthur has been smoking meats for 40 years and has had brick and mortar locations at 71st and Prospect and in Memphis in the past but now sells from his truck around KC and on-line. His menu is short and sweet, ribs, burgers, ham and of course sausage - hot and mild. I went with a rib "sandwich", which is 3 large bones in between a bun with sauce - not sure how you're suppose to eat this as a sandwich but ok...The ribs were hot as hell since I watched Arthur pull the slab right off the grill in the smoker. The ribs were smoky and tender and had quite a bit of meat. A bit pricy at $12 with no sides, but with the price of meat and gas skyrocketing; I get it. I told Arthur that I'd have to come back and try the sausage, so he instructed his son to cut me a nice size sample of a hot link - a deliciously firm and tasty offering - I see why he would name his business for that product.
