They set up my stack of an expensive unit without measuring the proper height for the shelves and the second shelf is 2 plus inches too low to use for albums or storage. The guys at The Stereo Shop are true Pros! Great high end units to choose from and an outstanding service dept. Rich is a McIntosh Master. I purchased a McIntosh Amp in need of repair and Rich explained to me what had to be done to return the amp to Factory specs. In less than 2 weeks, Rich sourced the parts from McIntosh and did a masterful repair on the unit to bring it up to 100%. In the meantime, Rick was able to explain a complicated set up and following his guidance, the install was easy. A digital input on my McIntosh 8000 integrated amplifier stopped working properly, and so began a repair odyssey that ultimately led me to The Stereo Shop. I won't go into detail about the various repair places that wouldn't/couldn't help me. It's enough to say that the input itself did not need to be replaced, as I was advised by one authoritative source. It needed only a software/firmware upgrade, which Dave, Rich, and Rick performed and subsequently tested. This may seem like a simple matter, but I could not find anyone in the Boston area, where I live, to do it, so I drove to Hartford, a 90-minute trip (twice), and I'm very glad I did. The amp is back to normal. When I needed help setting up the digital inputs afterward, Rick was there on the phone and very patient. All three of these guys are great, and if I ever need another repair, I won't hesitate to drive to Hartford again. These guys are awesome! Very knowledgeable and friendly. I received a record player for Christmas and was having trouble setting it up myself. They were able to adjust the tone arm and now it's working perfectly. To my disbelief they didn't charge me for their time. I will definitely be back for any future needs. In the West End of Hartford on Farmington Ave is the most incongruous of shops, a high end audiophile store. Some people dream of winning the lottery and wearing their arm out by pointing to Ferraris at the dealership, I dream of getting a balls out awesome Macintosh tube system from the Stereo Shop. Trust me when I say, they have systems that will make your deally seem like a 1986 Yugo. What's more, they repair the old stuff, which is pretty hard to find these days. They sell top line new equipment, but I have used them for expert repair of vintage high-end equipment. Ask for Rich. They not only do the work in-house, the service area and test equipment is on the first floor adjacent to the showrooms. If you have old but good treasures that need some care, bring them in soon; I can't think of another place like this left in Connecticut. read more
