Fantastic last minute booking they got us in for. My husband and I were on a quick two night trip to Kentucky to do a little distillery tour, but they are closed for Covid. Driving through all the greenery horse pastures hubby made a comment he wishes he could ride a horse; next thing I did was a quick secret search for horse riding, and DRS came up. I called pretty late at 7:45 at night as we only had two more days, the answering machine said to text the number for guided tours and I did, apologizing for it being so late. The next morning I got a text back while at breakfast that they were able to get us in at 1:00 pm that day. I surprised hubby, we went to hotel changed and headed out on a short drive from Lexington. Entering the grounds i couldn't wait to go on a ride, I haven't been horseback riding since 2012 in the Bahamas. And while this wasn't quite like that experience, it was perfect for what we wanted. It was informal and casual as the ladies brought us right in and gave us the names of our horses. We had 3 other ladies with our small group of 5, plus our guide Britney (spelling?) and her helper I didn't catch his name. Britney's mom helped us to our horses, I had Sun a 17 year old male horse that was gentle and easy. I am truly a beginning rider and the instructions were simple and clear, and Britney reminded us along our trails of things like "lean back going down this hill" etc. They have 100 acres of land and an adjacent 300 for the horses. The scenery was so beautiful and the trails were shaded for the most part which was a nice reprieve from the middle of the day hot sun. The other worker alongside Britney took pictures of us as we rode by so that was a cool bonus. We truly had a great time, about an hour was spent at Deer Run which fit nicely into our schedule. When we find ourselves back in Kentucky DRS will be the first place we contact! read more

We did a private trail ride and it was absolutely perfect. The property is gorgeous and the horses are noticeably loved. Our two guides that went with us were super friendly, patient, and informative. It's not far out of Lexington and if you plan on being in the area I highly recommend you plan a stop in here. If you're a lover of animals you want to make sure you spend your time and money on places that offer a great experience while taking the best care of their animals. This place is great!! Took my kids and extended family and everyone agreed it was the best horse riding experience we've all had. The horses are noticeably loved and cared for. During our visit to this beautiful bluegrass state, my Missy surprised me with a trip to Deer Run Stables for us to ride horses. We took a short drive from Lexington entering beautiful Madison County. This was my first trip to Kentucky. Growing up my father and I would watch the Kentucky Derby every May. I learned years ago how important horses were to this State, as many say the blue grass which grows from the ground is extremely rich in calcium from the limestone. Thus creating the best horses in the world. Needless to say I was excited to be in Kentucky and enjoying the Deer Run Stables, that is in excess of 300 acres. I highly recommend the drive out to D.R.S and taking a peaceful horse ride. My horse was Gypsy and she was awesome to ride. Britney was our guide and very informative, an unknown named cowboy also escorted us taking photos for the ladies in the tour trying to get them that epic horse riding photograph. read more

Great experience! We booked a trail ride for a Tuesday afternoon. They got us all set up with our horses and some basic instructions how to handle them. The trail was relatively easy and relaxing but also so much fun. Isabella and Brittney were great trail guides! Would recommend to both beginner and experienced riders. read more

This was a great spot to take our family. We got to ride horses and had awesome hospitality. Our guide was great and informative and sweet with our kids. The horses were so well trained. As we sat and waited we watched each of them walk into the barn on their own and go directly where they were supposed to. We had such a great time the kids asked to come back again. read more

I have had numerous trail riding experiences here, and every one of them were awesome. Great people there, great views, and most importantly, great horses (all of the horses are well trained, seem very happy, and are quite obviously very healthy). I have had a great time every visit, and there are a couple of cool restaurants nearby as well that are fun to go to after your trail. read more

They confirmed our reservation via text but were totally surprised when we got there. They had to scramble to accommodate us. We left 30-minutes late due to their mistake but were still back nearly on time, which meant we only got approximately a 30-minute ride. The guide on the trail itself was really pleasant and engaging. The trail ride itself was boring and really not overly scenic. To me, it was not worth the drive. Perhaps if there had not been a problem with our reservation, we would have enjoyed the experience more. read more
