Our trail ride with Emily and Drew was amazing. My mom and I were looking for an adventurous ride and Emily and Drew delivered. We climbed hills, walked through water and got to see calves and cattle. The horses were very well behaved and we really enjoyed our conversations with Emily and Drew. When my husband said he would like to go on a trail ride on the last day of our vacation I really didn't think we would find anyone who would be able to accommodate on short notice. Emily (aunt) and Emily (niece) made it happen. The horses were amazing and the farm with its cattle and rolling hills was magical. Can't agree enough with what everyone else has said. Best trail riding experience hands down, and I have done trail rides across the world! Drew was an amazing guide and teacher, and even though we were all different experience levels (beginner to experienced) he made sure we all had a great time. Also, the horses were really healthy and happy. You can tell Drew and Emily care about their animals and their land, which really enhanced the whole experience. We told multiple folks in Louisville that we had gotten the chance to ride across some beautiful rolling hills in Harrodsburg and they all said, "That's as Kentucky as it gets!" So if you're looking for a truly authentic Kentucky experience, even if riding is not your thing, go here! read more

My husband who has zero hours in the saddle had the best time yesterday because of Emily and her super well trained mounts. I am the horse person of the couple and I was very careful choosing a barn where both of us would have fun. I didn't want to do a boring nose to butt ride. And I wanted him to feel safe. Can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review, but I wanted to make sure I did because we had such a lovely time (we went in May). We also enjoyed the opportunity to groom the horses. We were going to ride with Emily but ended up riding with Drew because of weather/timing. He was great, just down to earth and nice and cracking little jokes here and there. Very low-key. The landscape was just breathtaking. I grew up in Lexington and I didn't know that this was here, an hour away. Wow. Riding through those beautiful bluegrass hills made me so proud to be a Kentuckian. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!!! read more

This was exactly what we were looking for. Drew fit us in on a beautiful and very personal horseback riding tour. He fit the horses to our experience level and (accidentally) to our personalities. From the very beginning he stated time wasn't a concept and we were just going to go with the flow. We heard his life story, his family and farm history, a lot about Kentucky and farming. I felt so at ease the entire time as well as trusted with my horse. He checked in here and there but mostly let us explore the beautiful countryside. I can't express enough how much we loved spending our morning with him and his precious animals. I would travel across the US again - and again and again to visit and ride. I went to Big Red Stables in 2011 and have been meaning to write a review ever since. I was in Kentucky by myself doing the Bourbon Trail. I was staying at the Beaumont Inn (which was beyond lovely) and it was a holiday weekend so finding places that were open for riding was impossible. I called BRS and they told me that they were closed but that they were going for a ride just the two of them if I wanted to join (the owners). I absolutely did and it was the best ride I've ever been on. You can't imagine how beautiful the land unless you experience it in person. The owners were so fun and easy to talk to. I'm sure they took it a little easy on the ride for my sake but it was still challenging and wonderful for someone who hadn't been riding in a years. They clearly care so much about their horses and being a family run business I cannot recommend it highly enough. read more

The best riding experience I've ever had. I am a novice rider and some people were riding for the first time and we all had a really great experience. Emily gives you highly individualized attention, Drew is fun, supportive and helpful. the horses are lively but very responsive and the ride through their farm is beautiful. Usually trail rides mean that you get on sleepy nags who will hardly move, not the case here! Kids as young as 11 and adults into their mid 50s all enjoyed it in our group. A. must go read more

I can't say enough good things about Big Red Stables!! My husband and I went to central Kentucky for our honeymoon, and I wanted to go horseback riding. I found Big Red online, and emailed Emily. She was lovely and helpful, and we scheduled an hour-long sunset ride on their farm. A few days before the ride, her husband Drew emailed us with some final details, and asked us to come a little early so he could teach us some basics before the ride (we are both complete novices). Drew was our guide for the hour, but Emily came and met us after she got off work. They were both so warm and friendly, the horses were completely calm and knew what to do (which is good because we sure did not), and their farm is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!! I wholeheartedly recommend Big Red Stables to anyone looking for a fun or romantic adventure in the beautiful bluegrass region of Kentucky! read more

My husband and I were in KY for our one year anniversary and reached out to Emily to go for a ride. There happened to be a hunter pace going on at Shaker Village so we met up with her there. It was the best of both worlds for my husband and me -- Im an experienced rider and had a chance to jump the fences on the course and get a good ride in, and my husband had the chance to feel comfortable on a horse and enjoy the amazing weather. Emily and her family, who were at the pace, are wonderful people and riding with her was by far the highlight of our trip to Kentucky. I would highly recommend Big Red to riders of all levels.
