We have been to Keeneland numerous times but today was different. We purchased tickets for 4 to enjoy a day at the 1936 Room. It was fantastic and I wish we would have gotten here at 11am instead of 1pm. Admission price includes a ticket, heavy appetizers and selected drinks from 11am-4pm. It was well worth it. You also have access to the outdoor area at one end of the Paddock and there is an outside bar and betting machines steps away. We didn't have to wait on drinks at the bar and the apps were well stocked and servers were walking around with apps that were not on the stocked area. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. As a plus to the experience you get to see the jockeys walk into and out of the Paddock after each race within a few steps of you. My suggestion is to grab a high top where the jockeys walk by. Yesterday's sneak peek of the new Paddock Building at Keeneland Race Course and I'm already obsessed. The Sycamore Room is absolutely stunning -- the modern design paired with Keeneland's classic charm makes the space feel elevated and fresh while still honoring tradition. They have added many rooms for meetings and corporate events. They've also made an inclusive ticket for drinks and food in one of the rooms, which will make enjoying your day here a breeze. It's only been a few years that we started this trip 1 or 2 times a year: spread fall meet. Since moving to Louisville area it's all about Churchill downs - mind you it's an excellent place. However, we always heard about Keenland; thus we started visiting a few years ago. Its quaint location; the tailgating either at the Hill or Meadow parking or the parking area, the scenery makes this place a comfort zone to visit. It's not huge but it's classic! Knock on wood but we never had a bad weather day going here - yes some luck but we'll take it. The grand stand does sell out early but I ( weather permitting) love the outside stadium seating. You might want to take a folding chair since if you snooze you lose your seating. Yes your seat might be taken if you leave to place a bet. Really it's all fair but a chair will guarantee a seat! Coming here is a step back in history. What an incredible property full of history and beauty. The clubhouse is the way to go if you have the in since it is less crowded and the view of the track is lovely and unobstructed. You do have to dress up if you go to the clubhouse but its worth it. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would 100% recommend. Must visit when in town. Relatively easy to get in and out with uber's. read more

Love this place! Churchill Downs, eat your heart out! We went to the Sping Meet this year and although it was a little chilly, it was still a fun and engaging atmosphere. We parked on the hill/grassy parking area and caught a shuttle bus that dropped us off close to the entrance. It was a bit of a walk due to the improvements and expansions that they are building on to the area. Despite this, the people issuing tickets and the security personnel were pretty friendly and helpful. We ended up entering into the Club House. It was a nice and welcoming with horse paintings and equestrian themed decor all over. They had plenty of sitting areas and a fireplace being operated at that time. We actually went and walked around the areas--where they placed bets, ordered drinks at the bar, and wandered outside to the grassy area where people were standing and watching the races being run on the grassy and dirt tracks. The grandstands weren't as full and the grassy area downstairs also weren't as busy. My guess is that it was due to the cooler weather since it was pretty cold outside. People were still roaming around and enjoying the race festivities. We also got to swing by the gift shop and check out a lot of horse and Keeneland themed items for sale. They did have a hat shop onsite for any men and women that wanted to buy a nice hat for the occasion. We did get to walk around the paddock area and got to see the horses and jockeys as they were getting ready to start the different races. When we left, we did get to see a few of the stables when we were walking to the shuttle bus area. All in all it was a fun time (weather excluded). I'd recommend visiting in the fall or the spring to take advantage of the meets and different horse races. It's a more intimate atmosphere, pretty lively, and a ton of fun! read more

Awesome place for kids on saturdays in October! 8a-10a it's FREE, watch the horses practice! Kids games, arts and crafts, fun giveaways, stickers, concessions, good place to relax, chill and enjoy the track! They have the headless horseman walking the concourse once during that time! Visited for the Fall meet on opening day . So needless to say it was very crowded. The weekends are the busiest. You may want to purchase seats prior to your visit , there are benches and a variety of other place to sit , but come early to find a spot . It's a beautiful racetrack with an old time vibe with groomed and maintained grounds. The whole place is kept so spotless. You can visit anytime even if there is no racing , the gift shop is usually open too . There are plenty of food vendors , with fairly reasonable prices and many places to get yourself a nice drink! We tried their famous bread pudding and the burgoo. The bread pudding was delicious , very sweet and made with bourbon . The Burgoo was more like a soup than a stew but non the less very tasty . Whether you like to bet on the horse or not spending the day here at Keenland is always enjoyable ! read more

Went to the Phoenix Room on Sunday 4/21/24 and I must say we had a great time. Did not cash many tickets, but the prime rib was delightful! Perfectly rare and well seasoned. I have been going to Keeneland for well over a decade and in the last few years the food has been up and down. I did not have a bad bite on this trip. Even the bread pudding, was very good! I am a harsh judge of bread pudding, because...mine is excellent...I've had people lick the pan. We did pay to park and that was a good deal too! When this race season starts I'm sure spring is on the way! Remember you need to sign up as soon as the tickets go on sale to get into a dining room. Keeneland is *the* truly beautiful track in Kentucky, I know Churchill is the historic track, but if you are in Kentucky in April or October come to this beautiful venue!!! read more

The morning tour was very informative. Our guide Jan was knowledgeable and interesting. The only criticism I have concerns the parking. We rode around and around trying to figure out where to park until finally we were told to park in the same lot where we had been told we couldn't park minutes before. I am disgusted how the staff here treated me. The bartender, Rachel, was very rude and talked about other customers to my friends in a very disrespectful manner. Furthermore, I am one of the few people with pigment in their skin here and she refused to serve me because I didn't have a second form of ID? When my white friend who ordered right before me wasn't asked for anything more than a drivers license and was served no problem AND looks my age. So I provided ID and when I did, Rachel switched up because I asked for security. Then, security came & she claimed I was "over served" even though I hadn't been served one drink yet? I felt completely disrespected. I have never been questioned about my ID (which I said to Rachel) and have never had to call security. Then, security said they had to "defer to the bartender" after they spoke to her, which I want to understand, but she had no right because I had done nothing wrong. All I had done was order a drink. Rachel needs to be fired. I am genuinely disgusted by her behavior, as were all of my friends as SHE LAUGHED while we talked to security. I don't even know that to say. As a Mexican girl from Chicago, I would not recommend coming here due to the behavior by Rachel and the security allowing her to laugh as I politely told them that I am just trying to order a drink? I am a 25 years old. OH! And by the way, she told me after 3 minutes of arguing that my debit car could be a form of ID? UM THATS NOT AN ID!! And when I gave it to her, she gave it back to me and said "good luck".. um alright it had my name.... Don't come here and don't order from Rachel. We took a tour of Keeneland with our amazing guide, Carol Sue, and it ran about 1 hour. The grounds are beautiful, particularly the stone work. We got a chance to see some horses doing morning workouts, and some horses working out on the turf. Carol Sue was very knowledgeable in telling us about the Racecourse, as well as the Horse Sales. She was mindful in bringing us to specific locations for the best photo opps. We are excited to come visit during the fall or spring meet! read more

I visited Keeneland mainly for the $6.50 breakfast at The Track Kitchen, but found myself over at the track watching some practice runs. The November Breeding Stock Sale was going on so I got to see lots of horses and fancy trailers. The "campus" is quite lovely with lots of green open spaces, trees, beautifully manicured landscaped areas, and gorgeous buildings. You can take a tour of Keeneland which I didn't know until I arrived. I'm not horsing around when I say this place was racy. read more

Who doesn't love a day at the races? Begin where they're walking the horses. Horses are beautiful animals, and these are at the top of their game. And don't believe if one relieves himself they will win the race. Not true. To wear or not to wear a hat...that is the question. I say only if you're seated indoors in a dining room. Otherwide expect it to blow away. Actually you can wear just about anything and fit in...from jeans and hoodies to designer with that aforementioned hat. Many food options...from fast food to full fledged dining if you're lucky enough to get in a dining room. Reservations are a must. I bet on all the grey horses, and they were big loser this day. At first we thought this would end up being our favorite racing venue of all the track we have visited. However, a few hours into the day, the insufficient amount of concessions and ridiculously long lines for such a small track made us change our minds. It's wasted potential of all the money they could be making by opening up the right amount of concessions. The track and property is gorgeous and the racing is run very smoothly and efficiently. If only they would realize how happy customers would be and how much more money they would spend if there were a decent amount of concessions. We had great seats down by the finish line but had to go all the way to the other side for drinks and food. We couldn't even get drinks after race 7 because of the lines. This track could absolutely be a 5 if food and drinks were more available! read more

My Favorite Things About Keeneland: 1. It's beautiful. From the drive and walk in, to the grounds, to the entire sunny and warm experience. 2. I ate my first burgoo (on top of a hot dog) here. I like burgoo. 3. I won my first bet of the day (which I took erroneously to mean that I'm a gifted gambler, a notion that every other bet I've ever made has disproven).* 4. The people watching. Tons and tons of Southerners decked out in their finest, and in many cases, getting a little sloppy. Even if there weren't any horses running, I'd be content to just drink and watch the crowd. 5. Barbecue as concession food. I will take a pulled pork or brisket sandwich over those awful "nachos" any day. My Least Favorite Thing About Keeneland: 1. The wait for cocktails. The lines were absurdly slow, and I think whoever runs the cocktail program needs to figure out how to streamline this process. ____________ *I won about $25, which I felt great about until one of my friends hit for about $12,000, twice. We had no idea until a week before that we had to buy tickets in advance so we couldn't get grandstand. The general admission area was packed until the rain started then it seems a ton of people left. We got really good seats after for some nice viewing of the races. It's all a bit dated and worn out but nothing is broken of not usable. We had a good time despite the rain. read more

What a cool place to check out! Disclaimer- we did a tour here. We did not actually come here for races or sales. We did get to see warm ups and morning practice racing, but that was within a paid, guided tour. It's a massive, beautiful place to see. Honestly, I am not even a fan of horses or horse racing and I was just blown away by the grounds here. Everything is just so darn pristine that it makes it majestic and magical. It puts you into some kind of mood where you feel like you are in a super special place. The guided tour was really nice. I highly recommend it. It was really cool seeing the morning "practice races" and the stadium being empty. You got to learn a lot of history and cool facts about it overall. read more

Had a wonderful time with my family spending the day at the track. The drinks were delicious and we were able to get right up to the front of the track to watch the races on one of the busiest days of the year. We recently had the opportunity to visit Keeneland and it did NOT disappoint. I have been to Derby, Preakness and Belmont and this may just be my favorite. Derby is iconic and worth a visit but Keeneland felt like home. The venue is gorgeous but still feels small town community invested. The staff everywhere were welcoming and friendly and happy to answer questions from this first timer. Prices are very reasonable and the amenities were classic. I hope to return. We visited friends in Lexington and were treated to lunch in the Phoenix Dining Room at Keeneland. It was wonderful. The buffet was outstanding. There was a wide range of food including salmon, beef, vegetables, dessert, etc. We also had a great view of the race track. Our friend, Terri, won 5 races. It was a good day. I think maybe my takeaway is that this was a cool experience but not something I need to do again. We visited on a gorgeous Friday in April. The weather was fantastic and the area is beautiful. We got a little confused on parking and ended up in the tailgating lot even though we had no intention of tailgating. Not a problem though as there were plenty of shuttles (at least on the way in - we were a little confused where to find it on the way back so just walked). We just had general admission tickets so mostly wandered by the fence. Our biggest issue was we didn't realize we needed cash so we actually weren't even able to bet. So without betting is was basically just drinking outside interrupted every 30 mins by a horse race. It was cool to see the horses but the drink lines were crazy and it was overall just really packed everywhere. I kept finding myself downwind of smokers which also soured the experience for me. If I come back I will certainly remember to bring cash and I would probably aim for a less busy day of the week. read more

Keeneland is a fun place to visit especially during the Fall or Spring Meet. We went to a weekend meet. Be sure to reserve you tickets well in advance. We tailgated in the parking lot like so many others. Some fancy and some not so fancy tailgates. The others there were all very friendly (mostly) and having a good time. It was a picture perfect day. Sunny and cool. If it is a sunny day, be sure to put on your sunscreen. Many were dressed up and many of the ladies wore hats! There are plenty of places to get a drink or food inside. While on the grounds be sure to wonder around and of course you can have one of the famous drinks (bourbon, Bow Tie, Breeze) or a hot bowl of Burgoo. Look it up. Go to the Saddling Paddock before a race to see the horses and watch the jockeys come out and mount their horse. Take $2 and bet on a horse. Pick a name or color or if you are serious buy the racing form, it is worth it. You can look online if you do not get a racing form. Most of the guests are friendly and there to have fun. Did notice one not so gentlemen that got belligerent with someone but his friends pulled him back. Certain areas along the rail can get crowded during a race a little lady started to fall and spilled a little beer on me. No harm no foul. The one thing is there were a few too many people smoking cigars and just blowing the smoke around. Wish that was prohibited. read more
