OMGosh, I'm ecstatic over this cheese!! I was visiting Lexington last weekend and was so excited…read moreto find a street fair happening near my hotel on Saturday morning. One of the booths was Boone Creek Creamery. Since I love cheese, I had to indulge and buy myself some! I love hot and spicy, so two of the flavors I got were "Sassy" (Sharp Cheddar with peppercorn and red pepper) and "Habanero" (Sharp White Cheddar with Habanero Peppers). Sassy was unexpectedly wonderful. Rather than hitting the tongue with heat, the heat was more in the back of the mouth and throat and lingered. No too much, but not too little either. Delicious. The Habanero on the other hand, exploded with heat from the initial bite. This one didn't hold back, it was full-on HOT! Way too often things that advertise Habanero try to be delicate... this cheese was not delicate in any way. It was HAWT!! And I'm a huge fan!! My third block is Blueberry White Cheddar. I haven't had any of it yet, but I have no doubt it will be epic! This was such a pleasant unexpected find. If you are in Lexington and like cheese... check them out. You won't be disappointed!!

If you are even remotely interested in American history, presidential families, or powerful women…read moreahead of their time, stop scrolling and just go. The Mary Todd Lincoln House is a beautifully preserved window into the early life of a complex First Lady and the turbulent times she lived through. We opted for the guided tour, and it was absolutely the right choice. Phillip was our guide, and he didn't just recite facts. He gave perspective. Thoughtful, objective, and deeply knowledgeable, he handled the complicated dynamics of a slave-owning border state with grace and clarity. He was also incredibly kind in his portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln, helping us see her not as a caricature, but as a layered, resilient, and deeply human figure. Each room is meticulously curated. Not every item was original to the Todd or Lincoln families, but everything was period appropriate and helped tell the story. The artifacts weren't just on display. They became part of the narrative, which made it all the more engaging. What surprised me most was how much the visit made me reflect on grief ... her profound losses, her perseverance, and the emotional weight she carried as First Lady during the Civil War. It gave me a new respect for her. And even better? My wife, who is not a big history buff, was the one who suggested we go, and she loved it. That says a lot. The whole tour ran a little over an hour and was the perfect pace. Despite the unseasonably hot June day, the air conditioning kept us comfortable, and the staff were welcoming from start to finish. Bonus points for the gift shop, it's small, but full of genuinely cool and thoughtful items. Well worth the money. Perfect for history buffs, curious minds, and even the skeptics. Educational, immersive, and honest. This isn't just a house. It is a home full of stories. And thanks to Phillip, we walked out with a deeper understanding of the people and times that shaped a presidency and a nation.

For $15 each we could wander through the rooms as long as we didn't touch anything or sit on anything. No guided tour in the morning but there was someone downstairs who cheerily answered our questions. There's a small gift shop. Small but very pretty garden. And everything is nicely air conditioned. Parking lot is small and tight, with overflow parking available next door.

I love cultural history and visiting historic homes, so when I heard about White Hall's scandals and ghost tour I knew that this would be the perfect outing for us. This tour is a great blend of the scandalous history of the Clay family and supernatural events that have been experienced in the house. Our guide, Jeffrey did a wonderful job of dramatically recounting the encounters that he and other employees have had at White Hall. This tour is offered two weekends in July every year. I've been on the regular tour of White Hall, and as someone who has visited most of the other historic homes in this area I can say with confidence that White Hall is the house to see! The house is beautiful, large (they actually take you up to the third floor and will take you into the cellar if you ask), and the family history is interesting. Cassius Clay was a fascinating man. From his emancipationist views, the cannon he kept, his second marriage at 84 to a 15 year old, and the unanswered question of whether or not he fathered the orphan he brought home from Russia after he was an ambassador there, you will not be holding back yawns listening to his life story.

We got to see the stables, got to see the horses get saddled, got to meet companion ponies. We got to be on the rail in the winners circle to see a race, then be there when the winning horse and jockey entered the circle and the prize was awarded. Our guide was Carol Sue, who was a pistol of a lady. She was so knowledgeable and sharp, and had great answers to all our questions. She showed us all the VIP areas and shared tons of facts about Keeneland. She explained exactly what all the terms in the program meant and how to decipher all the stats (jockey's win percentages, horses records etc). She supplied all sorts of cool facts about racing. I only took one photo the entire tour because I was so focused on all the interesting things Carol Sue was saying that I didn't even think about it. She truly had us living in the moment, which is no small feat in 2026. I would purchase green lot parking for this tour, which costs around 20 bucks (I didn't know this ahead of time). Otherwise you have to park in general parking, the meadow or on the hill, and take the shuttle in, which adds time and is a pain. From some places, you can walk, as it's only like 1/2 a mile, but not all patrons are capable of that. I have been to Keeneland as a regular spectator. While there is no dress code, people do tend to dress up in the southern fashion (hats, dresses, blazers). But honestly, don't feel compelled. Some people show up in jeans and tees. I used to be one of those people who wanted to be on the rail (crowds, no seating unless you bring your own chairs). But now I would buy seating in the stands. Much more comfortable. Food and drinks are expensive, as expected. A 12 ounce water is 5 dollars. There are restaurants on site, but I've never tried them because better and cheaper food are available. FYI: you can also attend the auctions, where racing hopefuls recently brought in almost half a billion dollars. The owner's experience is 75 dollars per person and requires signing a digital waiver. Totally worth it to see the inner workings of one of the world's most prominent racetracks. And one more shout out to Carol Sue, a true bad ass!
