People were loud and using the creek as a pool, spray painting and damaging the trail/trashing the area. So, if you are headed down to hike on the John Holder Trail, as we were, you will find it closed. The area itself is lovely. Hall's on the River is great (and open during Covid), you can still canoe on the river, and the fort is close by and well worth a visit.

I would rate it a moderately easy there and back trail but with some beautiful views of the Lower Howard River. Total round trip is just under 3 miles. There is a point that you do cross the river so make sure you have either waterproof hiking boots or the river is low enough to get across. Please don't try to cross if it is deep or flowing fast. Nobody wants to get hurt or wet. There are some elevation changes and several historical sites. For this hike there was a lot of pretty ice hanging off the cliffs. There is a waterfall but that's off property so you shouldn't hike there. And after a day of hiking you can get soon food at Halls On The River and enjoy the scenery from there. As for parking, I usually park across the street from Halls but there is parking behind Halls too.

While on a road trip up north in my tiny two-seater car with my large dog, I found it necessary to…read morescope out the dog parks in the areas I visited so she'd get her stretches in as well. While I did have an issue finding the address, once I did it was quite smooth from there forth. There's an separate entrance for large dogs than the gate for the small dogs so that was a soothing gesture since smaller dogs tend to get spooked by my dogs size. She was able to run free and the dog waste stations were readily available to the pet parents for easier waste retrieval. The parking is directly in front of the entrance so it was easy to unload and load her back in. I found it to be quite clean and spacious. I'm not from the area but spotting this park out made this stop on my trip worthwhile for both of us.

It has a smaller parking area but there is much to see. Public restrooms, a dog park, playground and lots of space for walking. I had a pleasant visit! This is a park formed out of reclaimed farmland attached to EKU, of which their website gives a…read moredecent description. To get to it, one has to drive through at least a mile of somewhat dubious gravel road, which is doable if you don't have an off-road sort of vehicle, but not something I would make a habit out of. Or you can run in on the cross-country trail if you have some time on your hands. The scenery when you get there is quite pleasant, and offers a variety of topography. You'll hear plenty of birds, and dodge plenty of bugs. The paths were discernible as such, but had plenty of growth on them and you definitely want to be tick-safe (as the sign at the entrance reminds you). Some areas have running water with rather inadequate fords, so be prepared to get a little muddy. There are various signs detailing the sort of flora and fauna of the region and the history of the environment. I hit most (but not all) of them in an hour or so. It's a nice bit of Kentucky landscape, of which there are too few pieces open for public use. The research function for the university is also valuable I'm sure. I think the threshold to make it a little bit more usable is not that high. I wouldn't want to see it overdeveloped, but a little more work towards the trails and road would go a long way.

My boyfriend brings his binoculars so he can birdwatch, while I love checking out the latest work of the beavers near the shoreline of the lake. Today we decided to try to find the beaver den -- and we found it! Pretty freaking cool. It's also a great place for disc golf. And there are lots of picnic areas, whether you're looking for large covered gazebos or a simple picnic table, and there are grills available for use. I can't give 5 stars because there is quite a bit of trash in places (people can be such jerks) and the bush honeysuckle is out of control. But I do love coming here, without a doubt.

Short walk from the parking lot There a few waterfalls. Copperas falls is like a 4 miles round trip hike. Pretty easy. Start next to the Osbourne Bend Loop trail. About Osbourne Bend Loop trail. It is 7 miles on the map but actually 9 because you have to walk back to the trail head on the Red River Gorge parkway. Very nice scenery through the whole trail. Due to different altitude and participation, very diverse plant life and rock formation . Marking is pretty spare, easy to get lost. There is a visitor center and gift shop on Red River gorge scenic road. Seems like a lot of people don't know that.

Maybe it was moderate for those who are used to it and live in Kentucky. Things got really steep and slippery. Nevertheless, we had a great time. There's parking all over the forest and many hikers ! We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. #NatureLovers.
