This park starts off with numerous baseball fields which I assume that little leagues use throughout the summer. Spread out around the park are a few small children's playgrounds. The organized sports and fun for the kids: Check! Near the middle of the park there is this decent sized pond with a fountain. Also ducks! Lots of ducks! Different ducks! Friendly ducks! Did I mention there are ducks? Benches and swings are all around the pond. It's the perfect place to take a daytime date to relax. Date/Nature/Pond: Check! On one side of the park and out of the way you'll find a small skate park. It is tiny and they really should expand it for the skaters in the area. They have more than enough room and it's hard to find great places to skate. Alternative activity space: Check! On the other side is a paved path that circles the park. It's a great path, but I wish it wasn't just a flat and winding path. They should install more trees or other things to admire. This path is surrounded by grass and only grass. I think this park could benefit from more trees, plants, and flowers. There is a gazebo on one side of the park in this area. There is also a dog park tucked away. The only reason this park gets a 4 instead of a 5 is because of wasted space. There's a lot of underutilized space that could be made beautiful here. I'm surprised anytime I talk to someone from the area and they have no idea that the park exists. Everyone from Danville and the surrounding area should use this park! No excuses!

The water in the ponds were either this unnatural blue color, or completely covered in a mossy algae film, and there were no fish of any kinds in the ponds. The pathway to walk was okay, pretty over grown. However the worst part of it all was the smell. The entire area smelled so strongly of sewage and bathroom smell, it was so unpleasant. Pretty disappointed in our lack of experience here but I'm sure with a little TLC the place could become much better.

We parked in the large gravel lot and stopped to check out the info board, entrance plaques, and admire the large doors in the entry gate. The path wound through the property past many interesting sculptures and trees marked with identifying tags. The largest feature is the large koi pond and has a pleasant waterfall feature at one end and large landscaped beds at the opposite side. There are also smaller ponds and water pathways (dry beds in August) with multiple bridges to allow for great views. One of the pathways wound down to a creek area and another rose up to a higher overlook point on an abandoned train trestle. This garden park was showing a bit of stress with the extended timing of late August heat for the past few weeks. Many of the hydrangeas were beyond salvaging for late blooming, which is just nature having its way. Would like to return next spring to explore further since there are multiple paths and limited time during this visit. Location is approximately an hour's drive from Louisville.

The old fort site has a marina and some signage, but it was brutal hot, so I wandered up to the Kentucky River Museum and stumbled right into a fascinating tour! The guide's family has operated the lock (Lock 10 to be specific) since practically conception, so he had stories, pictures, letters, journals, and a deep connection to the home and site. Awesome tour! This tour is included with your purchase of a fort ticket, so I headed over there to get mine and wander around the replica fort complete with cabins, crows, period demonstrations, and a video about the one and only Daniel Boone! Our puppy loved the ducks (and these were some FRIENDLY and INTERACTIVE ducks...) and we experienced some other cool avian sightings. Not a surprise - but the restrooms were suitably scary and during the first part of our visit, the overcast and gray sky made the cement building feel ripe for a horror movie experience... compete with a scary service truck and a man in stained overalls. (Please note, the gentleman was actually very friendly and engaging and was hard at work - he was not in any way a negative presence). The park is expansive and it was actually really busy for a Thursday evening. The dog park was intriguing but we ran out of time to visit. The play area had something for all ages and was popular with children through teens. Loads of parking and the shelter area was great for a school gathering. Can't wait to visit again!

There are plenty of green spaces and empty fields to play frisbee, flag football, or volleyball. I drove to the dog park area since the park is strict on having the dogs on leash at all times, so I went there. The dog parks for both small and large dogs are enormous! I have never seen that size of a dog park since I was in Colorado--and that state is known for being pet friendly, so their parks and restaurants are 90% pet-friendly. I took my dog to the small dog park as he is small. It was still 4 P.m. and too hot for my dog. There are not a lot of shades in the small dog area compared to the large dog area. I did not stay that long as my dog did not like being grilled under the sun. I checked out the rest of the park by driving around and noticed a vast playground, a marina (although the water has receded), empty fields, a picnic area, and even a camping area! If I had come later in the day when it was not too hot for my dog, I would have enjoyed my stay here. I have seen plenty of residents around here with their kids, birthday party groups, and groups playing frisbee. I can tell that it is a great park to visit. Cool spot ~
