Took my kids to this park to go skateboarding and it's never too crowded which makes it nice for beginners or novices like them. So they don't feel real intimidated and have a good time. The ramps and things aren't too steep either so it makes nice for them to learn the skills of skateboarding. Overall pretty nice park that the kids have a lot of fun at. It is surrounded by other fun activities like walking trails, a baseball field and some full court basketball courts. Cool little community area that's safe as it literally is connected to the police station.

It is next door to Rupp Arena and sits at the intersection of three streets, which meet to form a triangle....somewhat. One leg of the triangle has rows of fountains, which shoot water into the air much like the Bellagio fountains in Las Vegas. Though, the Triangle Park fountains are not nearly as large or impressive, they are still really nice. The water cascades down 10-11 steps that actually face Rupp Arena and it all makes a festive display at night when the fountain is alight. The Park contains plenty of semi-mature trees that give lots of shade for the numerous tables and chairs there on brick/concrete patches. Even though there is concrete, skating (along with a list of other activities stated on a sign) is not allowed in the park. When I visited this park in mid-September, there was a food truck selling its wares; though, I do not know if it is available year-round. Overall, this cozy park is a nice addition to a downtown are that is very walkable.

I like hiking. A lot. And I like hiking at new and different places…read more Charlestown State Park is....okay. They have some really nice trails, spread out and across a large area. There is plenty of parking. And I believe that camping is an option. You have to pay to get in, which is fine. But I am highly annoyed that out of state cars have to pay more. Once when I went though, it was in the off season and there was no one working at the entrance gate. We were hoping to pay with a card, and it appeared to be an honor system for paying the $9 on days when the park is open, but no one is working. I was enticed by the promise of Rose Island ruins (a former amusement park/resort. Not actually an island). But as interesting as it sounds, it was disappointing. It has been all cleaned up and sign-ified and it is more meh than I had hoped. I would probably come back more often if it was more like $5 to get in. But with Louisville's copious parks, state and otherwise, and Bernheim about the same distance drive, I'm inclined to stay on my side of the river.
