Short walk from the parking lot There a few waterfalls. Copperas falls is like a 4 miles round trip hike. Pretty easy. Start next to the Osbourne Bend Loop trail. About Osbourne Bend Loop trail. It is 7 miles on the map but actually 9 because you have to walk back to the trail head on the Red River Gorge parkway. Very nice scenery through the whole trail. Due to different altitude and participation, very diverse plant life and rock formation . Marking is pretty spare, easy to get lost. There is a visitor center and gift shop on Red River gorge scenic road. Seems like a lot of people don't know that.

Maybe it was moderate for those who are used to it and live in Kentucky. Things got really steep and slippery. Nevertheless, we had a great time. There's parking all over the forest and many hikers ! People were loud and using the creek as a pool, spray painting and damaging the trail/trashing the area. So, if you are headed down to hike on the John Holder Trail, as we were, you will find it closed. The area itself is lovely. Hall's on the River is great (and open during Covid), you can still canoe on the river, and the fort is close by and well worth a visit.

I would rate it a moderately easy there and back trail but with some beautiful views of the Lower Howard River. Total round trip is just under 3 miles. There is a point that you do cross the river so make sure you have either waterproof hiking boots or the river is low enough to get across. Please don't try to cross if it is deep or flowing fast. Nobody wants to get hurt or wet. There are some elevation changes and several historical sites. For this hike there was a lot of pretty ice hanging off the cliffs. There is a waterfall but that's off property so you shouldn't hike there. And after a day of hiking you can get soon food at Halls On The River and enjoy the scenery from there. As for parking, I usually park across the street from Halls but there is parking behind Halls too.

The park offers a few miles of bluegrass trails, a picnic area, and, unusually, an archery range. A…read moreshort gravel road leads to the main parking area. The terrain is quite typical for the region, but most land around here is private farms. Nothing in the few small ponds or bridge crossing the railroad will be overly exciting, but it is a nice place to walk around.

This is a beautiful park hidden in Northern Lexington (literally hidden). I have been here a…read morehandful of times in the past 4 years and I have always thought it to be one of the most peaceful and secluded places. It's not really a park, more of a big open field. It is great for walking with no interruptions or noise and the paths are clear. I know there is an archery range or something but I have never visited. I also am aware that people bring their horses out to ride. All the times I've gone, I've only run in to other people twice so it must be pretty large. Parking and space is ample!

The old fort site has a marina and some signage, but it was brutal hot, so I wandered up to the Kentucky River Museum and stumbled right into a fascinating tour! The guide's family has operated the lock (Lock 10 to be specific) since practically conception, so he had stories, pictures, letters, journals, and a deep connection to the home and site. Awesome tour! This tour is included with your purchase of a fort ticket, so I headed over there to get mine and wander around the replica fort complete with cabins, crows, period demonstrations, and a video about the one and only Daniel Boone! You know, that guy, pretty famous in these parts....

While on a road trip up north in my tiny two-seater car with my large dog, I found it necessary to…read morescope out the dog parks in the areas I visited so she'd get her stretches in as well. While I did have an issue finding the address, once I did it was quite smooth from there forth. There's an separate entrance for large dogs than the gate for the small dogs so that was a soothing gesture since smaller dogs tend to get spooked by my dogs size. She was able to run free and the dog waste stations were readily available to the pet parents for easier waste retrieval. The parking is directly in front of the entrance so it was easy to unload and load her back in. I found it to be quite clean and spacious. I'm not from the area but spotting this park out made this stop on my trip worthwhile for both of us.

This marker is located in the parking lot of the Cookout drive through and points out some of the…read moreearliest settlement of the area. The marker is in excellent condition and you can park at the restaurant to view it. It reads, "Came from Va. to Boonesborough, 1776. Builder of Strode's Station, 1779, the largest and most important fortified area in Clark County during the early settlements and bloody Indian wars. Indians attacked station 1781, and later. Two men killed first attack, none in later ones. Old burial ground unearthed, 1965, and the remains reinterred in Winchester Cemetery."
