People were loud and using the creek as a pool, spray painting and damaging the trail/trashing the area. So, if you are headed down to hike on the John Holder Trail, as we were, you will find it closed. The area itself is lovely. Hall's on the River is great (and open during Covid), you can still canoe on the river, and the fort is close by and well worth a visit.

I would rate it a moderately easy there and back trail but with some beautiful views of the Lower Howard River. Total round trip is just under 3 miles. There is a point that you do cross the river so make sure you have either waterproof hiking boots or the river is low enough to get across. Please don't try to cross if it is deep or flowing fast. Nobody wants to get hurt or wet. There are some elevation changes and several historical sites. For this hike there was a lot of pretty ice hanging off the cliffs. There is a waterfall but that's off property so you shouldn't hike there. And after a day of hiking you can get soon food at Halls On The River and enjoy the scenery from there. As for parking, I usually park across the street from Halls but there is parking behind Halls too.

The park offers a few miles of bluegrass trails, a picnic area, and, unusually, an archery range. A…read moreshort gravel road leads to the main parking area. The terrain is quite typical for the region, but most land around here is private farms. Nothing in the few small ponds or bridge crossing the railroad will be overly exciting, but it is a nice place to walk around.

This is a beautiful park hidden in Northern Lexington (literally hidden). I have been here a…read morehandful of times in the past 4 years and I have always thought it to be one of the most peaceful and secluded places. It's not really a park, more of a big open field. It is great for walking with no interruptions or noise and the paths are clear. I know there is an archery range or something but I have never visited. I also am aware that people bring their horses out to ride. All the times I've gone, I've only run in to other people twice so it must be pretty large. Parking and space is ample!

It's sad to see that the park attractions are no longer being open. The pool area and museum are…read moreclosed and appear to be in bad disrepair. Perhaps, partly due to the pandemic. I hope they come back. The camping area is still open. And the park restrooms are open. The fields are being mowed. It's still a great place, but I remember when this place was hopping.

I was not originally planning to go here, but always leave a spot in travels to just "randomly…read moreramble" somewhere, and this was it! The old fort site has a marina and some signage, but it was brutal hot, so I wandered up to the Kentucky River Museum and stumbled right into a fascinating tour! The guide's family has operated the lock (Lock 10 to be specific) since practically conception, so he had stories, pictures, letters, journals, and a deep connection to the home and site. Awesome tour! This tour is included with your purchase of a fort ticket, so I headed over there to get mine and wander around the replica fort complete with cabins, crows, period demonstrations, and a video about the one and only Daniel Boone! You know, that guy, pretty famous in these parts....

While on a road trip up north in my tiny two-seater car with my large dog, I found it necessary to…read morescope out the dog parks in the areas I visited so she'd get her stretches in as well. While I did have an issue finding the address, once I did it was quite smooth from there forth. There's an separate entrance for large dogs than the gate for the small dogs so that was a soothing gesture since smaller dogs tend to get spooked by my dogs size. She was able to run free and the dog waste stations were readily available to the pet parents for easier waste retrieval. The parking is directly in front of the entrance so it was easy to unload and load her back in. I found it to be quite clean and spacious. I'm not from the area but spotting this park out made this stop on my trip worthwhile for both of us.

Time for a break and hunting for a power outlet to charge up the onboard battery in the Sprinter…read morevan and while I did not find the outlet, I did manage to get some walking around at this neat park. It has a smaller parking area but there is much to see. Public restrooms, a dog park, playground and lots of space for walking. I had a pleasant visit!
