First visit to Jacobson Park, and while it felt like a crazy long hike there with two teens and a puppy during rush hour, it was worth the drive to experience a bucolic and hopping piece of the outdoors! Our puppy loved the ducks (and these were some FRIENDLY and INTERACTIVE ducks...) and we experienced some other cool avian sightings. Not a surprise - but the restrooms were suitably scary and during the first part of our visit, the overcast and gray sky made the cement building feel ripe for a horror movie experience... compete with a scary service truck and a man in stained overalls. (Please note, the gentleman was actually very friendly and engaging and was hard at work - he was not in any way a negative presence). The park is expansive and it was actually really busy for a Thursday evening. The dog park was intriguing but we ran out of time to visit. The play area had something for all ages and was popular with children through teens. Loads of parking and the shelter area was great for a school gathering. Can't wait to visit again! read more

I came here this afternoon looking for a new park to explore with my dog. Upon arrival, I could tell that this park was huge! There are plenty of green spaces and empty fields to play frisbee, flag football, or volleyball. I drove to the dog park area since the park is strict on having the dogs on leash at all times, so I went there. The dog parks for both small and large dogs are enormous! I have never seen that size of a dog park since I was in Colorado--and that state is known for being pet friendly, so their parks and restaurants are 90% pet-friendly. I took my dog to the small dog park as he is small. It was still 4 P.m. and too hot for my dog. There are not a lot of shades in the small dog area compared to the large dog area. I did not stay that long as my dog did not like being grilled under the sun. I checked out the rest of the park by driving around and noticed a vast playground, a marina (although the water has receded), empty fields, a picnic area, and even a camping area! If I had come later in the day when it was not too hot for my dog, I would have enjoyed my stay here. I have seen plenty of residents around here with their kids, birthday party groups, and groups playing frisbee. I can tell that it is a great park to visit. Cool spot ~ read more

And we're big fan of going to different playgrounds and parks and seeing the sights and let the kids be kids and play on the playground. This park is one of my favorite parks in Lexington. It's open from dusk till dawn I believe. The sign says park closes at dark. And there is a park ranger that goes around announcing when the park closes so you will be aware. This is a really clean park and has a lot of amenities. From the dog park to the kids area to a small fishing pond. I let my dog swim freely in that pond whenever it's warm out. It's pretty clean and decent to kayak within in. I love everything about this park and would highly recommend anyone to come check it out that hasn't been. read more

This park holds a special place for me, literally. In 2008 as part of Reforest the Bluegrass, me and many other Lexingtonians planted hundreds of pine trees. They were just seedlings then, but now they are huge, beautiful trees, all meticulously planted in rows. If you drive around, you can spot the area for sure. In the same area as "my" trees, there is frisby golf. I'm not sure how to play, but you can print out the score sheets online on the parks and rec website. I've been coming to Jacobson since I was a kid, and there is no doubt a lot of stuff for kids to do here. The playground is one of the largest in the area. The paddle boats and the water are a rarity in the central KY area. The paddle boats start back up this week, 4/18. You do have to have a fishing license to legally fish there. There are several annual events, like a children's fishing event and kite fest that I've taken my daughter to a few times. You can rent out one of the sheltered picnic areas for an event or cookout. I've been to several events and cookouts there, but never have I actually reserved it myself. I think you go through Parks and Recreation to do that though. Several shelter areas have volleyball nets beside of them. In the warmer months there is Free Friday Flicks, which not only consists of a different children's movie every week, it's a carnival like atmosphere... without the rides. The playground at the park is pretty amazing. It's mostly wood, a big change from the majority that are made of plastic. It has two sets of swings, multiple slides and a sand box area. There are lots of towers, bridges, a set of moving stairs, etc. There are ducks and paddle boats, but the boats are only open during the summer. Once you enter the gate, follow the signs to the playground (to the left). Best playground in the area, IMO. read more

Now I run there a few times a week and, when the weather is nice, I take my family there as well. Jacobson Park has something for everyone. This is a very nice park with a lot of open areas to just hang out in and do your thing. You can run, walk, fish, bike, fly kites, play frisbee golf, photograph the wildlife, play volleyball, cook out, fly your drone, play soccer, kayak, sail boat, , paddle boat, feed the ducks or fish, relax, get some sun, or play in the playground. Just do it before dark as the park closes every night at sundown. The park has many different species of birds including a family of bald eagles. Some are here to stay and some are just passing through. You can see some of the locals out and about hoping to catch the perfect photograph of the day or a lifetime. I've seen some pretty spectacular pics from this location. Come check it out and please take out what you bring in or deposit any trash in the many trash cans provided. The idea of the Pavilion is nice but it was not clean and inconvenient. The park is a great place to walk and spend time especially during this unfortunate Covid situation. The rest rooms are dirty and not maintained. I would not feel safe by myself. I've never seen any safety officers. There may be some...I've just never seen one. I'd never been to Jacobson Park and went to Free Friday Flicks. Hugh Jackman's musical about PT Barnum was on tap. Halfway through the film, I left. Not even handsome Hugh could encourage me to stay amidst the noise and chaos, and the humid buggy air. While it appears the park has a great deal to offer in parkdom, I'm not in a park mode If you have kidz or dogs, I can see it being a good place to go. read more

216 Acre Park with a great "creative" playground, Paddle boats, Fishing, 3-acre Dog Park and they host several special events throughout the year (such as Kite Fest, Halloween trails, Easter Egg Hunts and Free Friday Flicks!). You can also choose from 7 shelters for your next event. They rent 7 days a week, the largest shelter accommodates up to 100 people! You can even do it online for added convenience. Its really cleaned up in the past 10 years (new entrance and less parked cars) and, I think, much more inviting for families now. This is the kind of park I remember as a kid. Large sprawling park with wide open fields, open water with ducks to feed, paddle boats and a castle of a playground for little kids. The playground has most of the old school pieces: wooden sway bridges, two-story slides, monkey bars, tire swings, suspended tire bridge. The zip line has been taken down, but that's fine. At one point there were about 40 kids running about the playground and it didn't feel cramped. The ducks were very friendly, used to being fed by visitors; but not obnoxious. There is a bridge connecting the playground to the bathrooms and paddle boat area. Plenty of park benches and picnic areas. I will definitely visiting this place with my kids again in the near future. I wish there was a park like this in the Baltimore, MD area. read more

Jacobson Park is one of the largest parks in Lexington. And has on the second largest dog parks, recently and large to 12 acres. The dog park is broken up into halves, with no distinction what each half is. Although this is the closest dog park for me, my biggest complaint is that it muddy after the rain. But the amount of acreage and activities at Jacobson park is a huge plus. During the summer Jacobson Park also host free movies, camps, and during Halloween it is a place for scarefest. Jacobson Park has a huge Marina and paddleboats, which is a huge plus. read more

Let me preface my review by saying that I had a bad experience but it was because I got my car broken in to-I know this doesn't reflect the park itself but I hope that it will inform other people to be careful and be sure not to leave anything in your car that someone may want to take! There are no surveillance cameras so I was told by the police that the break ins happen often. The people that broke in sped off towards Richmond Road-they ran a red light and we're going way too fast. I'm just glad that someone was not hurt during this incident! read more

This park is amazing! The playground is truly unique and I love taking my toddler there (even though he's small for a lot of it). The grounds are beautiful and I love the open fields for kite flying (or watching) and the fishing/boating pond. I wish Jacobson Park would add a running trail, but that's the only suggestion for improvement I have and this is definitely somewhere my family with frequent as our son grows up in Lexington. read more

Jacobson is a nice spacious park, just not a lot to do...more open space than trees, rental sheltered areas and nice playground and camping areas. The best part of the park for me is the lake. Jacobson offers pedal boats which I always enjoy and there is fishing for those who like to indulge. They also have a dogpark but the dogs are not seperated by size small or large. I have a small dog who does not fair well with larger ones so we don' venture there. If its peace and quiet you want, you can get that for sure or have a private picnic. The playground = many slides,swings,nooks & crannies. Large, wooden jungle gym is fantastic. Has an area for small children, but it is easy for them to enter the larger play area & very easy to be separated from guardian who is trying to stay right on their heels but can't fit over/under/between all of said crannies. :) Most of my Mommy friends agree that it is difficult to supervise two+ children at this playground and not the best one for toddlers, but still tons of fun! So close to the water/ the ducks/geese, a small bridge over the pond/lake, & marina (which I've never seen open, but I'm certain must be at times because I see people using the paddle boats). read more
