Great for our kids to play with me while my husband did a tour! Buffalo trace as a whole was very welcoming of our kiddos.

We visited this area today to partake in the Lucky Leprechaun 5K put on by RaceRise. We only spent…read morea few minutes in their facility. Parts of it seemed a little dated, but it overall looked clean and well-kept (especially the gym and daycare). While running the 5K, the ground appeared well-kept. I did spot a rather hilarious looking concessions trailer, but it didn't seem out of place and did a good job of providing the kind of ambiance I would expect in rural Kentucky. Would run here again!

The weights in the weight room are never, ever, ever sorted into their correctly labeled spots (you can only blame other patrons up to a certain point--then you have to start asking why the staff aren't enforcing a sorting rule or sorting them themselves). 2. The wifi is spotty. 3. When equipment breaks, repairs take forever. One of the selectorized weight machines had a weight that stuck for months and months after I politely mentioned it to staff multiple times. 4. The men's bathroom by the weight room often has a very strong urine smell and the hinge on the stall door is not dependable. And handle on the sink in there has been broken for weeks. 5. The second hand on one of the wall clocks in the weight room is broken, and has been for a long time, which is frustrating if you want to time a lifting rest. (It's a small thing, but it's the kind of thing staff should handle without having to be asked by their customers. Plus, who wants to be "that guy" who asks them to fix their clock? I already asked once--now I'd rather use up my political capital asking about the wifi.) 6. Any time you have to do ANYTHING in the office, it takes forever. Reception and basic bookkeeping tasks move at a snail's pace. Again, all the staff are very nice, and overall things are not bad. However, there are some continual/recurring (and frustrating) problems that appear to be a lack of proper management.

Capitol View Park - Not quite a sinkhole, but Ryan's Gulch is definitely a bit of a challenge.

First, I will mention that it is winter now so very few parks look their best with all the bare…read moretrees and muddy grass areas. I saw this park on a map and dropped by with no expectations really. It turned out to be mostly a park for baseball fields rather than open areas or walking paths. The sports areas seemed pretty good though and had bleachers and fencing etc suitable for high school type ball games. It had walking access to the Kentucky River and a few paths that were, at the time, very muddy. There was a lot of drainage pipes, construction stuff and other maintenance areas that detracted from the view. Of course the trees had to leaves but I'd expect them to be nice in the right season. The Capitol view was okay. There was a mountain biking path that seemed like it would make a good ride for those interested. Many deer in the area which was very exciting for the dog and fun for me too. My 3 star review is because it just doesn't seem to meet a nice variety of park uses enough and because of all the maintenance areas (fencing, stacked mulch etc that seems permanent) detracting from the park atmosphere. It was easy to access though from the E-W Connector and had plenty of parking. The bathrooms were closed for the season which annoys me but is common in municipal parks (of course no one needs to pee in the winter....).

My wife and I visited here last weekend so she could participate in the Bluegrass State Games…read more Sure, she won. She was the only racer in her class, but she won. That's all that counts. Upon driving into the park, it was immediately obvious that this park was designed for baseball. A huge, well-kept baseball field dominated the landscape next to the parking lot, with some very nice bleachers for an audience. Must be used for local school baseball or something. You can tell people really care about this park. Not being an avid mountain cyclist myself, I can't say a lot about the mountain bike course. It runs about 5 miles around, and is quite treacherous in a few places. There are two pits along the course known by cyclists as "Sinkholes" that are very challenging to bike through. A good portion of the early part of the course is a gruelingly slow ascent. Emily almost gave up in the middle of her third lap... Her calves were cramping bad. This says a lot, considering that she bikes 12 miles everyday through town.
