This beautiful park is not far from downtown Frankfort and runs along the Kentucky River (duh). The…read morepark includes a large parking lot and a covered area that is the farmer's market at the right times of the week between April and November. A walking path along the river includes captions and signage explaining the history of Kentucky. Between that and the thick foliage, there are only a select few places with.river fews, mostly from what looks like a large distance above the river. Nonetheless, a flood line well above the path, dated to March of the year I write, was an eye-opener. A few sculptures dot the river as well, and there are a couple of bridges that have pedestrian paths. I could not find anywhere to fill a water bottle, though a few porta-potties were set up. It wasn't a stretch of land that blew me away, but an extended nice calm paved path in an area that was mostly private property seemed worthwhile to me.

But one is reminded of all the splendid Kentucky countryside that is privately owned; it's nice that this is open to the public. A couple of trails run through mildly hilly forest and around a pond. There weren't the sorts of spectacular views you'd expect from a major park, but it's nice hiking and the trails were quite well maintained. A climate controlled bird blind overlooks a pond near the parking area. There was no charge to get in and no one else in sight other than a few deer with winter coats when I dropped by.

Our outdoor play group did a meet up here and was going to do the white and blue trails. But we got…read moreliterally 100 yards into the path and discovered HUNDREDS of baby ticks on all 10 members (including the kids). A few of our members were removing ticks for over 30 minutes. We stayed on the trail the whole time. And we all had bug spray on. We understand nature is nature but this is just unacceptable for an kept trail recommended for families and a place that host events. We will only do this in the winter from now on.

All about the history of the construction of the Capitol, the Executive Mansion and Franklin County. And yes, there's a great view here of the capitol. Note that you will be looking East at the capitol so this is probably not the idea spot for your morning visit to look at the capitol as you're going to be photographing into the Sun. It is a beautiful historic building and if you're a fan of classic revival architecture it is worth coming to have a look. Everyone was able to practice the 6' distance without it being overcrowded. The buildings were closed due to COVID19, but it didn't stop others who wanted to fish and enjoy the beautiful weather. There were tons of geese with their babies (goslings); and they were very protective, as they should be. They were brave though and came up to my friend and I, wanting to have food from us. I guess people feed them often and don't read the signs that says not to feed them. Such is life. Other than that, I believe this is a good place for families and friends to meet up and have a great time! I will for sure come back.
