I love how lively it is here, there's always people when I pass by it or walk through it, the set up is nice and beautiful with a stone bridge to walk under, the playground seems fairly new and entertaining for kids! Tyler Park is a great park to run or walk through! The loop frequently has dog-walkers and families. The tennis courts seem to be used just about every day during lunchtime and after 5, even when it's chilly. The playground is full of kids playing and in the warm weather there's a splash park. This is an amazing community park that seems to have a lot of birthday parties on the picnic tables and friends gathering in the green space. read more

The first of four Sundays in September for the Tyler Park Jazz Festival. Every Sunday in September from 5-7pm. Last evenings performance was Horta Certa, Brazilian Jazz. The performance was packed which made parking a bit difficult on the local streets. Great music, Apocalypse Beer and Red Dog Hotdogs were all there. The Waterpark is adjacent to the festival area so kids were having a great time while parents enjoyed the music. read more

This is a very nice park. It dates back to 1910, but you would never be able to tell. They have pumped millions of dollars into renovating this park. It is a wide open park that can accessed from many different points. The park spans 13 acres. It has a very small parking lot. It could hold about three cars. The park has a wide open field that can be used for certain activities such as football, playing catch, flying a kite or having a picnic. There is a nice paved trail that goes around the field's perimeter. There is a very awesome playground here. It pretty new equipment that includes a couple of large jungle gyms with, a drum, bridges and some slides, a saucer swing, and a bank of traditional/toddler swings. I really liked the little artificial tree stumps that they had in the area that limbs could climb on and through. There is a neat bathroom facility right next to the play area and a small area with a couple of picnic tables right out side of it. The park has a splash pad in the area as well. It is nothing big or special. It is a cement pad that has a drain and sprays water. Nothing more, nothing less. It is kinda of like a big sprinkler. If you walk under the historic bridge, which is very picturesque, to the other section of the park you will be continuing on the paved trail and you will find two sets of tennis courts. One of the set of tennis courts is much better than the other. You will have no problem figuring out which one. But I will give you a hint. It is the one right off the path running through the bridge. It has very well maintenanced courts and nets. The other set of courts? not so much. The nets are horrible and the courts has a lot of big cracks in it. The park is rumored to have a basketball court, which I never saw. This is a very nice park, especially for those living in the surrounding neighborhood. Its path and field is popular with dog walkers and runner/joggers/walkers. Not sure I would particular make it a destination park, but it is still very nice. read more

I forgot how much I loved Tyler Park, and now it seems even better than I remembered. Secluded in the heart of the Highlands, Tyler Park adds a little green slice of heaven to the bustle of the neighborhood. With several large tennis courts, green space for Frisbee, and picnic tables for a leisurely outdoor meal. The real gem these days is the sparkling new playground and splashground. I headed on over recently for a playground meet up and got to see the play area. Heaven for kids running around and a respite for weary parents as well, it ensured that we all had a great time. With plenty of shade even in the middle of the day, it was a welcome oasis. We played for probably an hour before everyone scattered so the smallest members of our group could take naps (and some of the big ones too). It won't be long before we head back and enjoy this wonderful park again! read more

Large, spacious and fun park located in the highlands right in the Tyler park neighborhood off Baxter ave. This place is pretty awesome. Very scenic and pretty yet simple landscape. Very fun playground areas with innovative swings/play sets and even a cool nature made obstacle course. Took my 4 daughters here today on a daddy daughter day and grabbing breakfast in a nearby highlands restaurant. They ran around and played and soaked in the good weather and fun sights and playground. We also took the simple little sidewalk trail that circles along the outside of the park. The place has plenty of park benches to sit down and relax and it appears to be a popular place to dog walk. We had a great time and the place is really cool. Next time we are in the highlands with the kiddos and time and weather permitting we will have to stop by again. Highly recommend for any park lovers. read more

I lived next to Tyler Park for many years. It's a gem of a park that doesn't get the praise it deserves. I happened to be nearby today with my son, and since the weather was gorgeous, we stopped. After the recent renovations, it's easy to see that Tyler Park is a gem that now shines. This is a small but mighty park that shouldn't be ignored. The renovations included redoing the tennis courts. With the new paint, these stood out and were packed with families and couples playing tennis. The tunnel under the Baxter Avenue overpass is now more accessible. The steps have been replaced by a ramp. And the playground has been greatly expanded. Just past the tunnel, there are now two large, clean, brand-new playsets. One is for younger kids and the other older, with plenty of slides, ladders and more. My son had a blast. There were also swings, tree stumps to climb on and more. Other renovations include new bathrooms, ball courts and picnic tables. The neighborhood worked hard to fund and complete these renovations, and I commend them on the great job they did. Tyler Park is a park anyone would love to have in their neighborhood. read more

Beautiful little park! I went for the tennis courts and was pleasantly surprised all around. The courts were very nice and well maintained. The park has lots of green so you actually feel like you're surrounded by nature. And it's very clean, with a great splash pad and playground for kids. read more

This place is fabulous. I took my oldest daughter here today to play and see some sights. We both had so much fun. They had two huge playgrounds and many walking trails for us to enjoy. This is fantastic and we will be back numerous times. It is one of the best places for playgrounds we have been. read more

Just came here randomly no reason other than killing time before hanging out with friends. It's a much smaller park than I'm used to but, that may be a good thing. It wasn't very crowded so it was nice to have some quiet time outside to explore. There is something here for everyone kids and adults alike. A playground and basketball court for the kids and a picnic area for adults where there is shade from the sun. There's even jogging trails here as well. There is a small parking lot just off Eastern Parkway and there is street parking. If you're looking for a small park to enjoy this one is for you. I do like this one it's just too small for me. I will return at some point just not anytime soon. read more

A cute little park just off Eastern Parkway. I came here today for a group picnic. I had no problem finding parking near the park. And there are plenty of activities to do there. They have tennis courts, basketball court and a playground, as well as several open grassy areas where we were able to set up some volleyball, badminton and croquet. There were some musicians playing in the small tunnel between the two sides of the park. It was a great time to be had an a great park to have our gathering at. read more

Tyler Park is a great park. I consider it the little brother of Cherokee Park since they're not far from each other. One thing that Tyler Park has over all the other parks in Louisville? It has the bragging rights of being where Forecastle started. With that being said, if I ever decide to start a music fest... I'll start it here. Present day Tyler Park. I find this park to be a picnic park. Most people pass through it every day in their car. There are many that pass through the park while walking, running, biking, or whatever other exercise they're doing. They do have basketball courts, a playground, and plenty of tennis courts! With that, I still see it as a picnic park. One March night in 2008 when feet of snow came down overnight, I had the opportunity to go play in it in Tyler Park. Let me just say that's one Louisville memory I'll never forget. There was so much snow. My small group was the only group there(aside from one random weirdo at the other end of the park). Did I mention that it was 3AM? Don't worry... we were bundled up. Louisville is full of great parks as I'm sure you know and this is another one. Key points to take away: -- If it snows crazy amounts, go play in it here. -- If you're going to start a music fest, start it here. -- If one of the water lines bust because it's cold outside(particularly at Eastern Pkwy/Baxter), go here to watch the waterfall that will inevitably happen.(Can't remember the year that happened) -- Treat yourself to a beautiful picnic in this park. read more

Tyler Park has a lot of great attributes. For a smaller park, there's a lot of things you can do here. They've got a couple playgrounds, a tennis court, basketball court. water fountain, and I walking trail that circles the park. It's a very peaceful area and has a lot of pretty homes around. It's also walking distance from Bardstown Rd, so its easy access to some stores and restaurants. The parking is a little weird, they have a couple spots scattered around that can fit a couple cars, but besides that you'll have to street park. read more

One of the perks about living in Louisville is that if you walk around long enough, you will eventually walk into a green oasis. I grew up coming to this park. The play equipment has been updated since I have climbed the monkey bars. I don't think they even have those anymore. The loose mulch in the tiny child play area by the tennis courts has been replaced with a softer solid surface. I love how there is a beautiful stone underpass both supporting the street and allowing a walk through. There are 6 tennis courts on one side and a grassy area with a larger kid play area and basketball goal. I learned how to play tennis on these courts, and I still come frequently to play. They have boards you can hit a ball up against solo. I always feel safe as there are homes looking into the park. There are always puppies walking about. The park provides poo bags, so poo patties are a minimum. Thank goodness! In the summer there is a water fountain that kids can run in. I also hear there is a jazz series in September. I have never attended, but I love to hear about that. Safety, variety of activity for all ages, design, character, and beauty are all reasons as to why this place gets a perfect review. I have been here countless times, and this park has set the standard for quintessential small parks for me. They have packed so much into this park. I have also gotten to see it evolve and change without changing the essence of the park. I hope that my future children get to experience this park for years to come! read more

What you see is what you get with Tyler Park and you can easily scope out what's going on while you're driving down Baxter Ave on any given day. This comes in really handy when my boyfriend and I are thinking about playing some tennis. We know there either is or isn't - and there always is - going to be an open court before we even get out of the car. The courts are in pretty good shape and there's even one that has shade on both sides of the court about mid-afternoon. Ok, that's really what I'm eying from the road. The other great thing about this park is that there are tons of little kids running around it since there's a playground and basketball courts. Why is this a perk you ask? Well, these are the good kids that get really excited about finding stray tennis balls for you and will run around without resting until they have retrieved all of the balls you've hit past the fence. And how ideal is that? There's just one little intangible thing standing in between this park and 5 stars. While Tyler park definitely has it's charm, it just doesn't have that magical mystery that larger parks with their curious offshoot paths or secret spots somehow have. Tyler Park is just the destination, and it's got a lot of great stuff for sure, but there's no exciting journey along the way. read more

I love that Tyler Park is smaller and more intimate than Cherokee, but still in my neighborhood. I run past and /or through it several times a week and it is well maintained. I enjoy the lively sounds of people playing tennis and basketball or kids playing on the jungle gym. On Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. there is a $5 community boot camp. Love seeing people outside being active. Sundays in September from 4-6 Tyler Park has live Jazz for free. Pack a picnic and enjoy! read more

I've been to this park dozens of times, and I have some good memories at this place. Tyler has a lot to offer, but it's smaller than some of your other Louisville parks. Tennis, basketball, sledding, playground equipment and a concrete walking track are all available. A limestone tunnel separates the two areas of the park, and it's very charming. *The basketball goal is a bit short. Love coming here to exercise, walk around or take it easy! Tyler Park is nestled in the Highlands, near some wonderful residential streets. Lots of folks nearby walk here. Here you'll find: tennis courts, a walk path, basketball courts, a playground, benches, open grass areas, and lots of families, couples, joggers, and everyone in between. There are 6 tennis courts, a few basketball goals and a long paved trail through the park. On a typical weekday, the tennis courts will have a few folks playing, but not full. There will be some families/kids on the basketball courts and playground. Some teenagers will be running around. Some couples will be laying in the grass and enjoying the sun. Joggers and walkers will be going up and down the path. There will be dogs bustling about. And maybe a few folks with a frisbee or practicing lacrosse. It's a neighborhood park and people love coming here. It's also a short 3-minute walk from Bardstown, where there are restaurants and shops. And some lovely homes to check out as you walk. The parking situation could be better. But many folks walk here, so often there are open spots. If not, there are multiple streets nearby to park on. Baxter Ave does cross over the park, so you'll hear cars but it's never noisy. If you're trying to get a tennis court, the slow times are during the weekend. But you can get one during the week. The ice storm took a heavy toll on Tyler Park but it's getting cleaned up bit by bit. We took a stroll in here after dark and although we weren't bothered by anyone we also avoided them as best we could. Probably not the wisest thing we've done recently. This is a real night time hangout for a young crowd that doesn't necessarily live in the area. read more

I love Tyler Park! It's right next to where I live and I go there several times a week. No, it's not a gargantuan park with endless-space like Cherokee Park - but that's okay. It's small and quaint with great landscaping and a clean environment. It's well-lit at night and not over crowded with tons of people. There's space to throw a Frisbee, walk your dog, or just lay in the grass and take it all in. Great place to go to when the weather is warm. read more

Tyler Park is a great place to go if you live in the Highlands. There is a fun little fountain for kids to splash around in. Plus a swing set and a playground. There's also basketball courts a volleyball net and a bike trail around the playground. Plus they have a nice little gazebo to sit under and eat your lunch. I really like this park a lot. It isn't as grandly vast as Cherokee Park, but it is a great chill place, easy access, with plenty of amenities. Four great tennis courts - there has been 2 or more empty every time I've gone. Also a peaceful jogging path that loops around that I should probably stop being lazy and utilize more often (esp since it is such a gorgeous neighborhood there is good sight-seeing along the way.) There is also a little playground right in the middle. While i don't have any rugrats (thank goodness), I often see parents talking hanging out while the kiddos play. As Jordan said, it is on the small side, but all in all, a great spot, nicely tucked back off of the main roads but convenient to them. read more

Recently started playing on a flag football team and we decided to move our practices to Tyler Park. Made my first visit yesterday. Aside from the fact that I left with about 10 mosquito bites, it seems to be a pretty nice park. Tennis courts, open field, basketball courts, walking path, children's playground -- everything that a park should have. It's a bit on the small side when I stack it up against some of the other parks I've grown to love in Louisville, and there were several poop piles on the open field. It doesn't seem like the dog walkers to the best job of scooping up the goodies left behind. Not a great situation when you're running around not watching every step you take. But, we were out there until around 9 p.m., and it was very well lit, so it definitely suited our purpose. read more

So I have been going to this park for years. And the bottom line is that it could be so much better. It's great for having birthday parties for little kids and having family reunions. But, because its so close to Bardstown Rd. a lot of people come and litter and break bottles on the ground. It is still fun to be at, but there is always the small things that need to be done. Such as the basketball court has so many cracks and pot holes that its not to surprised when you sprain your ankle jumping for a block. It is also no surprise that everybody drives to their right, because the left side is so bad you will most likely lose the ball on the dribble. The rim isn't even regulation size. The net on the rim always gets ripped somehow. There isn't any lines for where the freethrow line is or the 3-point line, but someone put some permanent chalk there and everybody uses that. There is also a mound in the dirt where water puddles up at and your basketball can splash into. The little kid play sets and the sprinkler is really fun. The tennis courts are pretty good overall, but have cracks in the ground at some places. It isn't the best, but it certainly can do. Especially for birthday parties and family reunions. read more
