Are people allowed to swim in the water here?

Yes, they are. We even passed a spot where there was a rope people were swinging off of and into the water.

It's nestled back into nature and right on the Kentucky River of course. We are full timers and have been living here for 4 months and we are going to be sad to leave. The campground is filled with everything you need. There's an awesome common room with tables a fridge stove TV/Cable also A WiFi Cafe (just ask for password) and laundry room. So many things all there for your use. There's also an awesome men's and womens restroom that they just redid the floors in and are now painting! Two showers each is very convenient. If you want a fire pit by your camper just ask! Most people here have their own. You may not be parked on the river. But it's just. Short walk and benches are available for enjoying the views. It's a very short walk to the water from anywhere in the camp. Most of the campers here are share holders and only come for the weekends so during the week it's very quite and relaxing. Many weekends there have been live bands and so many other fun activities going on! Every is usually friendly and polite. Don't forget to wave at your neighbors! Charles, Rus, and another gentleman (sorry I forgot your name) do an amazing job to accommodate you during your stay and work hard to make the campground what it is. Don't forget the office where you'll check in and such has items available for sale from sweets to t shirts.

No cell service down at the river which is just fine. Beautiful view of the Kentucky river and a great place for kids to just play and be kids. To…read moremake it more fun, the last mile is a one lane, steep, curvy road with blind turns and no shoulders. Thankfully, we did not encounter any oncoming vehicles. I can see why they are sticklers about arriving and departing times! Check-in was quick, and the lady told us that someone would help us park. And that is a very good thing. The main area is an oval, and it's a tight, one way road. It would have been challenging to back into our site without help. The sites are narrow and very unlevel. We had to run to Walmart for more blocks. BTW the campground brochure says Walmart is 8 miles away. It's 12 and takes a good half hour or more depending on if you have to wait at a train crossing. Ask me how I know. When we returned to the campground, the staff was handing out concrete blocks to help people get level. They really need to warn prospective customers about this. The sites are close together, and there is no privacy. There is no cell coverage, and the WiFi is spotty. There are two toilets and two showers in the bathrooms, and they are clean. They also have a nice laundry room with large machines. Be prepared for ticks - we all picked up one or two just moving around the campsites. The river is beautiful surrounded by tall rocks. They rent boating equipment and have a few Adirondack chairs to sit by the river.

We stayed three nights at EC and had a relaxing and enjoyable visit. All the employees were very friendly and welcomed/ thanked us for visiting. The park has a nice swimming pool, mini-golf, playground, and pavilion. On Saturday evening they had live music and a food truck. Overall, the sites are spacious, especially the ones along the creek. The creek side sites are all paved pads, level, and FHU. These sites seem to be newly renovated compared to the non-creek sites. Water pressure was very good and consistent electricity throughout our stay. The one minus is the poor WIFI. A for purchase upgrade was available, but the free WIFI was very limited. The bathhouse is very nice, clean and modern. We were fortunate to have a buddy site (#9) with our friends and it was an amazing location. Common fire pit and plenty of room to spread out. The creek flowing behind the site was very relaxing and we wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend Elkhorn Creek and we will stay here the next time we visit the Lexington area. FYI- The campground is only 5 miles from Buffalo Trace.
