Are people allowed to swim in the water here?

Yes, they are. We even passed a spot where there was a rope people were swinging off of and into the water.

The customer service was terrible when we got back and explained what was wrong. The lady we spoke to said we didnt care if we were not happy. They have 3 people outside. No one inspected the kayaks even though they stated they know they have holes in them. They didnt adjust the paddles and show you how to adjust the seats. I would not recommend it. Poorest kayak trip we have ever been on.

I saw one other person there as well waiting to check in, and this person told me that it was 3 o'clock check in. So we both continued to wait another hour. There were three different phone numbers that I tried to call, one of which nobody answered, another one kept cutting me off, and the third one I kept getting a busy signal. So by this time it was 4 PM and I needed a place to camp so I called the campground down the road that was willing to take me last minute, no problems. I then proceeded to send an email to the email address given on the website explaining my issue, and that email got kicked back to me undeliverable. I am now out $33, and would not recommend this place to anyone. It very much gave me a horror movie vibe.

YES! We wanted something interesting to do on our annual drive down to our Florida coast vacation…read more We simply added a day and zigged out to Kentucky for a little outdoor adventure. First tip - get there early so you can explore the general area. We had a little time, so we hiked to Balanced Rock for some great views and some photo ops. "Gorge Underground" is an abandoned limestone mine (where they accidentally struck water and flooded it beyond use). Luckily, it's great for a kayaking adventure! Our guides were super nice and very informative. With one in front, and one bringing up the rear, you were free to wander (just a little) versus single-file through a boring tour. The experiences is just really cool. At one point, we ended up in the farthest-in part of the cave, and we all turned off our headlamps. Pitch dark. The guide had some funny stories, but then asked if it was anyone's birthday coming up (it was my son's in a couple days). So we all sang happy birthday to him (but he couldn't be embarrassed - it was dark and nobody knew who he was!). After finishing our 90 minute tour, it was time to dock. My wife and I lagged behind to be the last ones out, giving us probably 10 extra minutes of "taking it all in". One regret is that we didn't plan ahead enough to get the clear kayaks with LED lights. That would have been another layer of "cool". I would recommend to anyone. The water is still as can be, so it's a gentle paddle that anyone can do.

Our guides Josh and Dylan were helpful and knowledgeable. It is COLD down there. I didn't wear socks because I didn't want them to get wet but in retrospect I wish I had. Toes were numb!

I would highly NOT recommend staying at Still Waters Campground based on my experience with…read moremanagement. Today I rolled through a stop sign in the campground. I understand that was my mistake, and I accepted being told not to do it again. However, what happened afterward was completely unnecessary. Instead of simply speaking with me later at the office or sending a text, management chose to chase me down in a vehicle. I was driving around the campground under the speed limit, yet I was accused of speeding because they claimed they had to drive 30 mph to catch me--even though they had to turn around before following me. What made it even more frustrating was that I was told to "lead by example" while the manager herself admitted to driving around 30 mph in a 10 mph campground just to catch up to me. That felt incredibly hypocritical. What bothered me most was the way the situation was handled. I tried to walk away to avoid escalating the confrontation, but the manager continued arguing with me. She even told me to "go get my boyfriend," as if I couldn't speak for myself. I'm a grown woman and didn't appreciate being dismissed like that. Later, after I had calmed down, my boyfriend and I went to the office so I could apologize for raising my voice and explain my side of the situation. Unfortunately, management wasn't interested in having a productive conversation and came across as condescending and unwilling to listen. It also seems like the rules are enforced inconsistently. We have watched plenty of other people roll through that same stop sign without being stopped or chased down. If safety is truly the concern, the rules should apply EQUALLY to everyone instead of selectively enforcing them. Overall, this experience left a VERY bad impression. A simple warning then walking away could have resolved everything, but instead it turned into an unnecessarily confrontational situation. Customer service and professionalism from management were extremely disappointing.

The photos will appear in the correct order when clicked on. If you don't want to read the whole thing, just know this: it's a horrible campground. The management and their long-term resident friends form a clique that gives off major high school mean girls and jock club energy.
