Gloria met my Grandpa and aunt (who brought him to appt) in the parking lot to ensure they found the handicapped entrance. He was very happy with the precautions taken for safety with COVID-19. Dentists usually send their difficult cases to Dr. Pretorius, who can usually save the tooth. When I first called, I was offered a virtual consultation the following day, which I completed thinking I would be able to schedule an in-office visit shortly after. However, I was told the next available appointment was about a month away. Although that was frustrating, I still scheduled it. Later, my sister received a follow-up text from the office about confirming an appointment. She also had reached out to inquire about Invisalign. But By that time they finally replied to her, she had already decided to move forward with another dental office, so she asked if I could take that available slot instead. The office replied saying that would be fine. However, when I was about five minutes away from the office, the receptionist, Hannah, called and said there had been some confusion and that I should keep my original appointment. That was extremely frustrating because I had already rearranged my schedule and was on my way. It didn't make sense that I was told I could come in if I ultimately couldn't be seen to conduct the appointment in its entirety. When I eventually had my appointment, the doctor and the back-of-house staff were very kind and professional. The visit itself was going well, and I told the doctor I wanted to move forward with Invisalign. I was then told it would take about four weeks for the trays to come in. I've had Invisalign before and know it often takes closer to two weeks, but I was still willing to proceed. The biggest issue came when discussing payment. I was given four payment options, and I asked if I could use my dental insurance and pay the remaining balance with my CareCredit card. I was told that wasn't possible. They mentioned they asked the doctor and apologized, but the answer remained no. I've never experienced a dental office being so restrictive about how a patient chooses to pay. It also makes the promotion offered very misleading considering that's not what's advertised. Overall, while the doctor and clinical staff were pleasant, the confusing scheduling, poor communication, and inflexible payment policies made the entire experience frustrating and ultimately felt like a waste of time. Katarina Pavlicic as a client of mine and felt comfortable seeking her advice as the pain mounted and the need for treatment became unavoidable. Surprisingly, on her vacation, she took my call and was kind enough to listen while I whined on and on. She gave me many suggestion and solutions on dealing with the pain with the bottom line being that I could see one of her recommended colleagues, or wait and see her in two days. I chose the latter and have been thrilled I did so. From the moment I arrived and was greeted by Rene at check- in, to the dental assistant Ellen's amazing way of being comforting and funny I was put much more at ease than I expected. I relaxed and put my trust in Katarina. Before I knew it, I was walking out the door. Instead of listening to my symptoms and concerns, the doctor accused me of wanting a root canal and insisted my pain was due to an ear infection. They performed a sensitivity test, noted my tooth was only minimally reactive, and used that as "proof" that nothing was wrong with it. I sat in the exam chair crying while the doctor and staff reassured me that the root canal I supposedly "wanted" wasn't necessary. At the time, I was already on antibiotics for an ear infection--which I later learned was actually caused by my tooth infection--yet they did not prescribe anything additional or treat the source of the infection. I was told to simply "call back in a month." After enduring the pain and the doctor's dismissive, demeaning behavior, I decided to book an appointment at the Stoughton Endodontic Center instead. They ran the exact same sensitivity test, but this time the provider diagnosed nerve damage and confirmed I needed an emergency root canal. The infection had progressed so far that it had spread into my sinus. Because of the delay in treatment, I am now dealing with lasting effects--a year later, I still experience mild episodes of sinus pressure that began during the infection. This experience was not only unprofessional but potentially dangerous. Dental providers should listen to patients, take their pain seriously, and investigate symptoms thoroughly instead of dismissing them. I would strongly caution others before seeking care here.
