This was such a bad experience. It seemed like there were some unnecessary office visits (each related to an office visit charge with a copay) and I did not understand why I was charged for office visits just to have blood drawn (especially when I had to pass two Labcorp centers to get there) or for quick conversations that could have occurred over the phone. There were also some issues with listening to me, as the patient. If I tell you, as a new patient, that I have had certain procedures, I do not expect to be challenged and told that it is not possible because they wouldn't do it. There are always exceptions to the textbooks. So I had to provide the surgical report before he would concede that I was correct. As such, my initial diagnosis was not even feasible due to a past surgery that I initially noted I had. Also, twice, I was prescribed meds that I specifically noted I could not take. Finally, after an unsuccessful surgery, I had to go to another gynecologist to get the initial issue addressed and resolved. While I am sure he is a nice person, this was not the gynecologist for me, due to the experiences noted. read more

Horrible Doctor!!!! This man's arrogance almost KILLED ME this past weekend! His 30 years of experience out weighed what was ACTUALLY happening to me. I was transported via ambulance from another hospital and he NEVER ACTUALLY examined me to see that my CERVIX WAS OPEN. I was passing a huge fibroid! He said. That's not possible. 17 years later and still the best gynecologist. I was able to get in and Dr. Proctor took the time to discuss options with me. I trusted my gut and met with him, listened to ALL of his suggestions. It's so hard to find a good doctor around here! left the office before I even went into the exam room so maybe I'm missing something. Prior to my appointment I called and arranged to have my file sent from my previous doctor and confirmed it was sent and received. So, after 45 minutes of sitting in the waiting room I was asked to pay my copay. I asked if the wait was normal and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I asked about my file and suddenly it was missing, they said it was never received. Odd since a few days prior they said it was all set. I had a very uncomfortable gut feeling from the moment I got to the office so after the file was missing I left. I wasn't about to submit myself to the torture of the exam room (expecially after my previous experience at Dr. Aria's office) if this is how bad the front of the office was organized. read more

Dr Proctor is the best Ob/Gyn I have ever had. I've had many. MANY. Mostly due to underlying conditions that were never pinpointed until this guy came along. He is patient, caring, considerate and get the job done in the most timely manner possible without making you feel like you've been skipped over or shorted on your time. He genuinely listens without judging and will professionally answer even the most awkward questions. I've had to have repeated minor "surgeries" for previously mentioned issues and I've always been nervous before the procedures, but always less so with Dr. Proctor. The wait times are less than other places I've been, but it's a doc's office so if you actually expect to be seen at your EXACT appointment time, I'm thinking it's your first trip to ANY doctor. The staff is polite and accomodating. I live near Quantico VA and I will not look for another GYN. I've found mine for as long as I live in driving distance. He's worth that. No joke. Dr Proctor is a wonderful, caring and supportive doctor. He is busy and has a large amount of patients but this does not stop him from having a wonderful bedside manner and making you feel like you are listened to without judgement. I have been seeing him for about 7 years now and he was the only one after a string of gynecologists who solved my perpetual issue without extreme medication. I have only waited a long time on mybe two or three occassions in 7 years. I dont mind to be honest b/c that only means he doesn't rush his patients. Melody, his assistant is wonderful as well. She's so kind and is always cheerful. Quality care in an area that where it's hard to find. I moved to Woodbridge/Triangle area of VA and still travel to Oxon Hill to see him. Dr. Proctor was the worst! I came to him (in 2012) about a serious medical problem. At first he seemed to try to help me with the problem, but gave me a medication that made the problem even worse. After many examinations and biopsies, I still had no answers. The last straw was when he sent me to the radiologist to see what was going on. I was familiar with this radiology company and know how fast they get the results back to the doctor. After a week passed, I called Dr. Proctor to see if he received the radiology report. He told me that he received nothing from the the radiologist yet and for me to call back in a couple of days. I called the radiologist right after hanging up with Dr. Proctor because it was odd that the radiologist would take this long to send the report over. The radiologist company told me that they sent ther report and had the date and time that it was sent . I called Dr. Proctor again and told him what the radiologist company informed me; he said "things get lost up there (in his front office.) He placed me on hold while he checked with his staff and came back to tell me that he still had nothing. I just went ahead and found a new doctor that has more years experience and is more concerned about his patients. Dr. Proctor may seem like a good doctor because he has a good personality and he'll talk in your language, but it takes more than that to impress me. Women don't misktake niceness and personality when it comes to selecting a OB/GYN; that should come with know how and organiztion also. Dr. Proctor's personaility and niceness should be considered only if you are in perfect health; but not if you have something serious going on. My new doctor has a sonogram machine right in his examination rooms. I never seen one in Dr. Proctor's examination rooms. I think that it is important to have things like that to give the doctor some clue to what is going on; even if the doctor still has to send you to a radiologist to be certain of their findings. Dr. Proctor needs to update and reorganize. He can't even remember a patient that he sees often. I have a problem with that. He's too busy and preoccupied. You may say "well, that's a lot of doctors," but the ones that really care about their profession, will remember. read more

Do NOT go to this doctor!! He is the most insensitive doctor I have met to date! I tried to give him many chances, but no more. He and his staff forget patients and paperwork (with the exception of one young lady in particular she follows him around during his exams and takes blood and vitals.) Dr. Proctor sent me to get an x ray and then didn't remember why he did it, even after I refreshed his memory! He has no follow up I was told by Dr. Proctor that something very serious could be happening to me, then he treated the situation like it was nothing. I have to chase him for results from pregnancy test to cancer screenings. When you call him back, he needs you to remind him of why he called you. He makes you feel like you're wasting his time. I think he has too many patients and is so overwhelmed that this is how he has to operate. He once told me "not to google" my issues, but I'm sorry to say that Google was more helpful than he ever was. He called me after I left him a message twice stating what I wanted; he still called back (chewing his lunch in my ear) asking me why I was calling. Maybe in the early days, he was on his game, but those days are long gone. All he does is sticks his hand and instruments in and then forgets his misdiagnosed findings. He will say you are normal one week and then turn around and say that something's wrong the next. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE stay away to avoid disappointment! read more

Dr. Stephen I. Proctor took my case many years ago. I know it's been at least 10 or 13 years now. Every single time I come into that office I am greeted by friendly staff who treat me as if I am THE ONLY PATIENT. I am very picky, and I do not play when it comes to my body, especially, the lower area where someone has to explore and probe. (I went to another GYN in this part of town recently during my insurance transition and that was a big mistake. Never again. I was literally offended by the doctor's treatment of me.) Dr. Proctor's staff are professional, thorough and friendly. All of the staff from the front to the back door, are so personable. They treat everyone this way. I have watched. I have always felt that this doctor is one of the best. Dr. Proctor possesses a "stand up" bed side manner and as well, listens to you instead of talking all over top of you like some of these doctors do. Then, after that, he asks you if you have any further questions. And, he means it! I'd bet you his roster is full, but you can give him a try. So, I highly recommend this doctor. From what I have observed, seen and overheard, he is a family man, and a man of integrity. One last thing about him, and that is, even though his practice is an OB /GYN, Dr. Proctor treats each person as a separate individual; and he does not look at you as if you are a "female organ" or "big payment".
