World's rudest front desk but he's one of the best in the DMV as far as bedside manner. If you can make it past Cruella, you will find that Dr. Samman is kind, understanding, and will explain until you're comfortable. He will be able to retain patients who have any respect for themselves and how they are treated once the front desk lady retires. If you ever call in, know that you're on speaker and everyone in the hall can hear you even if the office is busy. She can't though and will interrupt every sentence you attempt to start. Rude, gaslighting, and completely unprofessional. I asked to have my IUD out because I was experiencing heavy bleeding and other uncommon side effects (as usually happens to me on any form of birth control)-- told him I just wanted to reset me body. That part was fine. He took out my IUD. Went back for a consult to chat about other BC options-- got laughed at. He told me that the symptoms I had told him about (suicidal ideation, depression, heavy bleeding for three months straight) were "unlikely" as if I had just made all my symptoms up. Kept trying to push the pill on me even though I said no thank you, the three types of pill I have been on have all made my depression worse. Kept pushing the pill on me anyway. He did not let me finish a single sentence, he kept laughing at my reasons for not wanting the ring or the pill, and said "whatever" to my concerns more times than I can count. I have had long-standing symptoms that are not common with the forms of birth control I have been on-- had hot flashes, vicious mood swings, etc. Past doctors have run blood tests to see if anything is detectable there in terms of hormones, thyroid issues, etc. So far, nothing, but when I showed Dr. Samman my past records he laughed at "all these silly tests" as if I wouldn't know what a symptom was if it hit me upside the head. ALSO, when I decided that I wanted to get my IUD back in, I said I would need to schedule it later as last time I had my IUD put in I was in too much pain to drive and I had to get picked up-- He laughed at this AGAIN and said "Getting an IUD in doesn't hurt-- if you really want to be sensitive about itm, I can give you morphine." I have truly never been more disappointed in someone as a clinician-- He is terrible-- wouldn't even recommend him to my worst enemy. He should have his license revoked or retire. He has absolutely no business helping women with their bodies. And yes, getting a t-shaped piece of metal lodged in your cervix DOES hurt :). Very nice doctors I absolutely adore Doctor Samman but unfortunately the only time you are ever comfortable in this office is when he is right there and present. This is my third time coming I came once years ago and the issue is still the same lady at the front desk. Oof. As a medical professional performing medical services, Dr. Samman was good, as a medical professional specializing in women's health and talking to women about their health, he's a mess. I got my IUD replaced ~8 months before I had to, and making the appointment was the second action I took after the 2016 election. I don't normally chat politics with my doctors, but Samman really pressed me on why, if I didn't have to, I was doing this early. When I told him that, given the stated policy objectives of the incoming administration, I was both concerned that this form of birth control would no longer be covered and/or available. He laughed at me, which isn't professional even if you DO disagree with a patient and think they are overreacting to political rhetoric. He then said, and I quote: "Mike Pence is married. He can't hate women like people say because he loves women; he loves his wife!" Loving an individual woman in. I way indicated whether or not you support women's rights, particularly their reproductive rights. I found his entire demeanor and unsolicited commentary on politics and my personal health choices rude and unnecessary and will not be returning. Given that there's been an 800% increase in IUDs post-election I know I'm not alone in my fears, and want a doctor who respects me and my choices. read more

Choosing an OB-GYN is a delicate matter. You want someone knowledgable, someone who will pay attention to every little detail without crossing the line into creepy, someone who is professional without being standoffish. I don't know about you, but I am much more picky about this sort of doctor than, say, an ophthamologist. Not saying that good ophthamologists are a dime a dozen. Just saying that a visit to the ophthamologist usually doesn't involve half-undressing, exposure of personal bits, and potentially painful prodding. I have visited a few mediocre doctors in the area. These were visits through which I had to clench my teeth and breathe deeply and try not to curse too much. These included one visit where the doctor's advice during a prodding session with a *freezing cold speculum* was, "Curling your toes always helps!" (NO. IT DOESN'T.) I finally wailed to my friend, "Are ALL GYN visits supposed to be THAT PAINFUL?! WAAAH!" "But no!" she said, "Go to my doctor. He's totally great. I recommend him to everyone." So I made an appointment with Dr. Samman and walked to his conveniently-located office on K St. After a bit of confusion with the insurance (Don't forget your insurance card! Put it in your purse right now! Go do it!) I sat down for an initial chat with the doctor. He's an elderly Egyptian fellow with pleasant manners and a soft, slow, thoughtful voice. He made sure that the exam itself did not take more time than necessary and that he thoroughly explained everything he was doing. I didn't leave feeling violated or ripped off, and I have confidence in his perceptive abilities: he felt a small uterine fibroid and recommended I have it checked at a local radoilogy clinic. My OBGYN med student bff, when I told her he had felt a fibroid the size of a walnut, said, "Wow, he must be pretty good if he felt that without an instrument." Bonus points for Dr. Samman. Minus one star only for the difficulty with the insurance procedures. Seems like every time I go I end up paying more than what I was supposed to...? I don't know. But it's not worth switching to another unknown doctor, not when I've found one this good. read more

I've been going to Dr. Samman for a few years now. Pros: - Good and respectful bedside manner, explaining things before he does them. - Very willing to answer your questions, explain his reasoning, give you more info. - Good at talking hypochondriacs down (ahem). Cons: - Possibly because he is so willing to talk to patients, he is always running late. ALWAYS. Even if you have an early am appointment. Be prepared. - Will call as he receives test results. It's good that he wants you to have info sooner, but be aware you may get more than one call, not all info together. - He is a little old school and may make some assumptions about your lifestyle. I have been going to Dr. Samman for over three years, now. I chose him at first because he was close to my office, but I actually go way out of my way now to stick with him because I think he's so great! Like many on here said, he's relatively soft spoken, but is very patient, and explains everything he does. I just found out I am pregnant recently, and I had no doubt in my mind that I would stick with him for the big day. He's polite, knowledgeable, and exactly the kind of person I would want to have with me in the hospital (he delivers at GWH, just FYI). I gave him 4/5 stars because the staff that works there is a little off sometimes, and they do tend to run behind. Definitely not a reason to pass him up, though! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Dr. Samman was very rude and unprofessional. I came in for a routine check up, and while I was there, told him I've had a couple of UTIs over the past couple of years. He asked about my relationship status, and I told him I had a longtime boyfriend with whom I was exclusive. He continued to ask me about our exclusivity, asserting that it was very common for women my age to have multiple partners - as if trying to blame my UTIs on having multiple partners. I was a patient of Dr. Samman years ago. I just started going back to him almost 2 years ago. The employees at the front desk are not inviting at all. I noticed that the same lady from years ago is still there. Maybe he can't find anyone because I see several complaints about his staff. Also, about them not accompanying him in the examine room. When you call they aren't any help at all. They always say they're dealing with patients but when you are there, there's not patients only them running their mouths to each other. Weird, but I prefer a male gyn. Dr. Samman is a very soft-spoken doctor who takes time to actually interact with patients. He's the type of doctor to actually call instead of having the nurse practioner call you back. I give him 4 stars because as with most doctors nowadays, the nursing staff is usually the problem (not very professional) and for some reason everytime I go, Dr. Samman is running late or has to run out and deliver a baby (I guess that's a good sign). I saw Dr. Samman in April of this year and I still quiver when I think about my experience. My visit started off very good-he consulted with a one on one basis before examining me. I thought was excellent because you rarely find doctors who do this anymore, to say the least I was impressed. Unfortunately I was not impressed for long. I was directed to an exam room to change and wait for the doctor to enter. When he did, I noticed that there was no one who accompanied him for my examination (odd because I thought that was the norm. I fault myself up until today because I did not ask nor insist for a staff member to be present (I told myself he was probably just old school). My examination started off with being told by Dr. Samman "let me see how tight you are" (strange words from a doctor) followed by a forceful finger examination that was awful. Once he withdrew his fingers he proceeded to stick them to his nostril and then informed me I did not have an infection he said "see no smell". Never once did I discuss with Dr. Samman that I was concerned or think I have an infection, thus I did not understand why did such a thing-further more that is not how a physician determines that an infection is present in a patient. I felt completely violated and not sure of what I just experienced. I walked out of his office and was in such a state of shock that the individual that accompanied me to the doctor had to ask me what happened. I was unable to sleep that night and still have difficulty when I think about it. Ladies be aware, maybe this doctor is good to some patients but I cannot say he was to me. I still think about the experience all the time and know that I would never ever see him again even if I was dying. read more

Wonderful physician! I just returned from my first visit and I ran right to Yelp. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! I was looking for a new OBGYN and now I have found one. He was incredibly kind, thorough and walked me through things so I felt comfortable. I was impressed with how timely he was as well. He was right on time and I was in and out without being rushed. A more than fair amount of time for an appt to feel valued but prompt. Thank you for being so great! Highly recommend Dr. Samman. Dr. Samman was great. I went in for a routine pap to renew my birth control pills, and he took the time to talk through my medical history, asking for my preferences in contraceptives rather than pushing the newest pill on me like other doctors have in the past. He talked pretty much the entire time we were in the exam room as well; I'm not sure if he did that to distract me from the bit of prodding a pap entails, or if he just likes to talk, but it was a nice distraction regardless. The only reason why I wouldn't give 5 stars is the wait, which honestly wasn't terrible. There were 3 women in the waiting room when I arrived (20 minutes ahead of my appointment); I saw the doctor about 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment, so in total, I waited about 50 minutes. Still, I was in and out in just over an hour, which isn't too bad. read more

Dr Samman's office (pronounced Sa-man) is great. I starting going to him after my previous doctor refused to prescribe generic medication. Getting an appointment has always been easy for me, I can usually get one within a week of calling. My only gripe is that they only take cash or check for your co-payment, and i allows forget to being cash with me. Dr Samman is very soft spoken and generally goes over what he is checking for during the appointment. I would recommend him to anyone. read more

This is the worst gynecologist EVER!!!! First, this man and his staff is EXTREMELY rude! Not welcoming at all. During my visit he was very passive aggresive and make very smart remarks. After my visit Geoge Samman dianogsed with 3 STI's. When I asked to get tested again he said no. He also became very angry and started to give me moral advice about what I should do with my life and my partners. After this conversation my partner got tested and his results were negative. Since I did not believe that I had 3 STI's and my partner did not I went to another doctor just for a second opinion. I got tested and not only were my results negative my new doctor David Powers located at George Washington ( 2300 M St NW) found a solution to the problem that I initially came in for. I'm having my first baby and the stress I receive from calling the front desk is not worth anyone's time. I had to leave this doc bc of the rude front desk worker. Don't choose this doc if you want added stress while pregnant. Also the front desk lady gave me my results of genetic testing and the results of my 20 week ultrasound. I have been using Dr. Samman for 10 years. My roommate years ago recommended him, and I am glad that over the various jobs, he was still in my insurance. As others stated, he has great bed side manners. I find him to be knowledgeable in the field and open to share his thoughts and knowledge. I never had an issue with waiting or him running late - compared to other doctors. Maybe it's a 5 minutes. The only con I have is that his office accepts cash or checks, something I don't always have with me. I forget this and seem to have to run to the ATM downstairs. read more

Dr. Samman recently helped me deliver a beautiful baby girl. We were both lucky that my labor was straight-forward and by the book. However, through out the 8 months that I saw Dr. Samman, I became very glad that he was my doctor. I recently visited Dr. Samman. To my surprise, the only complaint is that they don't take debit or credit cards. I don't like carrying cash or my checkbook. I didn't have to wait too long for an appointment. Plus the office is near my job in DC. Dr. Samman and his staff were all wonderful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I have a rare pituitary gland disorder and pcos (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). He was well aware of these conditions. He even quickly followed up with me on my lab results and the future steps I need to take. I have found a winner and would highly recommend him. He cares about people and is very kind and gentle. I went to Dr Samman while pregnant with my first child 3 years ago. I was followed by a group of OBs and didn't like the way I was treated. I am so happy I switched to Samman, he is very knowledgeable and helped me manage my GD without rushing me with medication I delivered a healthy 7lb boy. The hospital staff loves him and they assured me that he was one of the best and that he would never rush you to a c-section. I went to see him again recently as I relocated back to the area. This is the worst doctor EVER. Slut-shaming, HIPAA violations, and ridiculous wait times abound. I arrived for my pre-screening appointment for an IUD fifteen minutes early and waited to be seen for 2.5 hours. When I was finally shown into the examination room, someone's ultrasound images were clearly visible on the floor and more printouts and their records were on the ultrasound machine. That is a breech in patient confidentiality and a HUGE HIPAA violation, which I've already reported. When Dr. Samman finally arrived, he told me that I'm not a candidate for an IUD and that he would not perform the procedure on me. He told me that my lack of children and my young age make me a poor candidate, because "young girls" like myself "change boyfriends every day and don't behave", making the chances of infection greater. He told me that since he has no way of knowing if I'll "behave" myself and have "monogamous relationships", he wasn't comfortable giving me the IUD. When I became visibly upset and countered every one of his DISGUSTING arguments, he then backtracked and said he would give me the IUD. When I was in the stirrups, he treated my body roughly enough to make me cry. A regular examination felt like sexual assault. He even left the speculum in my body while he began to fill out paperwork and tried to have a conversation with me. I HATE THIS DOCTOR. read more
