I saw Dr Kesselman for years and it was perfectly fine as a doctor until I began experiencing severe pelvic pain. I do believe she did her due diligence in trying different birth controls but beyond that I was actually appalled at a few things: I had to ask more than once to be referred to the endometriosis center / pelvic pain doctors and she referred me specifically to the fertility doctor. I had a laparoscopic endometriosis surgery a few months later and no endo was found. Rather than trying to connect me with other specialists in her network or even being remotely supportive and kind, she simply said "there's no physiological explanation for why you're in so much pain." It took me over a year to revisit my gynecological health bc a doctor i trusted made me feel so horrible and also crazy. Two years and a second laparoscopic later with a different hospital and a bunch amount of endo was found and removed, and it was also identified in the photos from my first surgery. If you're looking for someone to do an annual exam / pap and dont have complex needs she's fine, but I absolutely do not recommend her for anything complex. read more

Saw her in 2020 at the Bethesda location and vowed never to see her again. - Bedside manner: overall, she seemed rushed and fake. She seemed to hope I had no more questions, and that the visit would end soon. When I asked prospective pregnancy questions, she abruptly cut me off and said she was no longer an OB, just GYN. Ok, lady, how I was supposed to know?! She said it looked like I had a certain fungal infection (I won't mention which), but didn't take a sample to test. She recommended an over-the-counter drug if I had symptoms. She gave general answers to my questions (take folic acid and probiotics, wear cotton underwear, check out the CDC website for Zika - I was visibly unimpressed when she mentioned the CDC and said I knew the website, but she just reached her hand to shake mine and basically said goodbye. The exam felt rushed, she didn't tell me to take a deep breath when inserting the speculum, didn't tell me when she'd swab, etc. - Holding my prescription hostage: this was the most egregious issue, in my opinion, and one of the most unbelievable experiences I've ever had with a doctor. In short, I called the office to renew my birth control prescription (it had expired) and the nurse told me I could just message my doc through the portal and tell her I needed birth control renewal. Dr. Kesselman messaged me back to tell me she WOULDN'T RENEW MY PRESCRIPTION UNTIL I came in to get the colposcopy she insisted I needed. This was in the middle of the COVID pandemic, when many places were still closed! I explained that I didn't feel comfortable going into any medical offices for now, especially for non-essential/non-urgent exams or procedures. She compromised by renewing my prescription for 3 months, but said she wouldn't again until I got the colposcopy. I have never had a doctor hold my BC prescription hostage in order to get me back into the office for another procedure (especially one that is optional!). In most offices (incl. Planned Parenthood), you don't even need a pelvic exam to get a BC prescription. This was unethical and clearly connected to financial/billing quotas she wanted to attain. - Atypical exam: they apparently didn't take urine samples, but I had arrived prepared to give one (I am usually asked to give one), so I kept telling them my bladder was full, but the nurse didn't offer to let me go use the restroom. When the doctor offered it, it seemed impossible (I was naked, barefoot, and had my legs in the straps). Nobody told me to undress, just wait in the room. - Nurse: Was ditzy and had an attitude problem. Huge fake nails, chewing gum, asking me to remember my weight because she couldn't remember if she had written it down, etc. - Disorganized reception desk: When I left, the front desk seemed puzzled when I asked if I'm all set ("yeah, unless you need another appointment". No, do I still owe you anything? Money, documents, information? Would never consider seeing her again, and I would advise everyone to steer clear. read more

I do not recommend Dr. Kesselman under any circumstances. She does not pay attention to details. She is quick to brush off your concerns and seems focused on getting you out of the office. I was her patient for 3 years and not once did she mention a very serious medical issue until I suggested further testing to confirm the issue. She seemed unconcerned and preferred to use a wait and see approach. I immediately sought a more competent physician who immediately responded to my medical issues with surgery. In addition, the front desk staff were unprofessional and take forever to answer the phone. At one point, the phone lines were down for a week at he Bethesda location. I'm writing this as I'm sitting in Dr. Kesselman's office, waiting. And waiting. And waiting. I've been waiting for an hour. While I think Dr. Kesselman is a fine doctor, I'm wondering if this new practice is worth it. They seem to have a time management problem in a big way. Surely they could call and let me know if they were running an hour late? The desk staff said that they have 5 practitioners working out of the space, and not enough rooms for all the patients. Not a great environment. Now all I feel is rushed, assembly line care. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that I visited Dr. Kesselman's office location in Bethesda. Both times I have been to see her, the office staff has been nothing but professional. I was able to get an appointment with very short notice. Both appointments, Dr. Kesselman herself was very pleasant, and met me in her office prior to the examination to discuss any medical issues. The exam was short and thorough ,and her nursing staff was pleasant. read more

Really disappointed with this place. I have been a patient for several years now and have tried several times (during working hours) to get an appointment for an annual. There is no voicemail set up and no one working the phones. I understand that Dr. Kesselman may have moved to GW but there should at least be a message set up indicating what number to call. Not really a good way to run a practice. read more

Contrary to other reviews, I have found both Dr. Kesselman and her staff to be polite and professional. At my first appointment with her, she took the time to go over my medical history in her office before the exam, which I much prefer to going over it while I am shivering on the exam table. I also appreciate the fact that it has been fairly easy to get last-minute appointments with a doctor in her practice. Her exam was quick but thorough; I didn't get the sense that she was trying to rush on to the next patient. She also is fairly good at keeping to her schedule. None of my appointments in her office have been more than a few minutes late. I have also had extremely good experiences with her colleague, Dr. David Powers. Her other colleague, Dr. Becker, is creepy and should be avoided at all costs. The other main downside to her office is that she charges $25 to call in prescriptions. I have never heard of another office doing this. read more

I'm a big fan of Dr. Kesselman. I have been able to get an appointment (Mondays only) at her Foggy Bottom office about 1-2 weeks out. Her office staff is very friendly (and funny). Dr. Kesselman is prompt and gets down to business; I feel comfortable with her. Sometimes she is a little too fast-- but I just make sure I show up with any questions I may have. I would recommend her as a GYN for young women (I don't have children so I don't know how she handles women going through pregnancy). read more

Dr. Kesselman is great. She's super nice, comes in, performs the exam without weirding you out, then calls you to her office once you're dressed to write your perscriptions and answer any questions. I've never found the waiting room time to be very long, and her staff is great about submitting refills to hold me over when I go too long between my annual visits. I can't necessarily get in to see her IMMEDIATELY, but I never have to schedule more than a few weeks out. Still, both the doctor and staff are great there and I highly reccommend her. read more

I went to Dr. Kesselman back in mid-May (2008) for a routine exam, pap and to ask questions about trying for a first pregnancy with my husband. It was easy to make my appointment - and they did call to confirm the appointment the day before. Her Bethesda office was only a mile from my home and the staff was very pleasant and attentive. I've read the reviews from the other ladies about the bad staff experiences they had, perhaps that was at the DC location? Dr. Kesselman was very straightforward with me, took a thorough history and did a very professional exam (and as comfortable as a pelvic and pap test can be). She was very informative on the steps I needed to be taking in preparation for a hopeful pregnancy and I would recommend her to anyone. I can't speak for the other ladies experiences but I can vouch for the Bethesda office. I'm looking forward to meeting with her again now that I learned a few days ago that I am pregnant! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kesselman's for 3+ years and would give ten stars if I could. Dr. Kesselman is quick with her exams and then takes you into her office for questions. So much nicer than trying to process information and remember questions when you are naked under a sheet. I primarily visit her Bethesda office and her staff there is wonderful. I've had a rough couple of months and Dr. Kesselman and her staff always make me feel like they are on my side rooting for me. Just this week I had trouble with my insurance covering a prescription and Dr. Kesselman called them probably 6 times until she got it covered. She's the best. read more

I saw Dr. Kesselman in the Bethesda Office and her staff was very professional and courteous. I completed the paperwork in her office and was seen within fifteen minutes of my arrival. This was in August 2008. I work in a promient Medical office in NW DC so I feel that I could be sensitive to anything that seemed unprofessional. All went very smoothly. Dr. Kesselman saw me first in her office ans we went over my medcial history and any problems that I might be experiencing. I was then shown to an exam room and given adequate time to prepare for a thorough exam. After that I saw Dr. Kesselman in her office and she could not have been nicer. I have sent several of my colleagues to Dr. Kesselman and one of the selling points I mentioned was how nice her staff was. I disagree thoroughly will the negative reviews, however some people are more sensitive than others to changes in schedules and remarks made by staff members. If I had heard or seen anything unseemly I would be reporting it--however I did not. Everyone was great. It could be that the staff had changed since the previous reviews. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO which I was told is the only insurance Dr. Kesselman accepts or is contracted with. Her office was clean and I did not wait long which is a plus as I have a very busy schedule. read more

I just saw Dr. Kesselman for the first time today in her Foggy Bottom office. Her receptionist/nurse was sweet, friendly, and very busy. They had no other staff members working today. I appreciate meeting a doctor for the first time in her office to get my info and history and then after the exam talking it through in her office, fully clothed. She has a nice, professional demeanor and didn't rush the process even though she was very busy today. This was a routine visit, but I didn't see anything that would make me think she wouldn't be just as professional should something come up. read more

Dr Kesselman is THE BEST OB/GYN I have ever gone to! She was with me every step through my pregnancy and I was 40 at the time having my first child. Her associates were wonderful and delivered my son with no problems. They were always courteous and supportive. Naturally when you're the best your phones ring off the hook and your staff is overworked but it never mattered to me because I knew I was seeing the best and being treated as if I were the only one. Dr. Kesselman always remembered my son's name, my husband and anyone else I spoke to her about and was a wonderful person to talk to when I needed her. She is and will always be #1 in my choice for a doctor! She's worth the wait! read more

I went to see Dr. K based on a friend's recommendation some years ago, and thought she was fine for couple of routine annual checkups, until I faced a personal crisis (found out the guy I was dating had other partners). Though I was in shock, I knew I had to make sure I didn't get any STDs from the CAD, so asked for an appointment without sharing my reasons with the receptionist - I thought this was between me and my doc. Much to my surprise and disappointment, her nurse suggested many health insurance companies don't cover these tests and that I might want to go to Planned Parenthood instead (my health insurance is one of the biggest companies in the area). Very bizarre - why would I not go to my own doc? I told the nurse I would call to check in with my insurance about the coverage before starting (they didn't offer to help check), so she asked me to step out of the consultation room to make the call so as not to hold up other patients. Talk about being made to feel like crap - I'd been waiting for a while in a state of undress. So I got dressed and stepped out of the doc's office to have some privacy to call my health insurance (out of earshot of staff and other patients). While on hold with my insurance, I get a call from the doctor's staff to ask if I wanted to be tested and to let me know I have a pending bill from my annual physical - nice touch! I told them I would take care of that and the current bill when I came back in. When I finally got through to my insurance, they wanted the charge codes from the doctor's office so they could tell me exactly how much of the fees would be covered. I asked the front office staff for the codes with no privacy whatsoever offered. The insurance said they would cover 2/3 of the charges, which was fine by me. I told the nurse so and she took me back to the consult room, I got undressed again, and the doc finally came to see me. I briefly shared the reasons for wanting to get tested with the doc - the nurse was still present (maybe I could have asked for privacy with the doc...it was tense and awkward). The doc agreed, took a quick sample and said she'd be in touch if there were anything found. After I got dressed, I asked to speak with the doc privately about my experience in her office. I was glad she made time to meet with me, and surprisingly, she almost anticipated what I had to say, that I had not only gone through a personally difficult issue (and I'm not a young thing anymore either), but also felt as though I was treated with a lack of compassion and respect, and felt I was being judged for possibly having an STD. Despite her acknowledgment of what I felt, Dr. K defended her staff, saying everyone gets the same treatment. Needless to say, these were not very comforting words to hear from her. I left the office that day feeling more traumatized than what I had gone in, and would hate for anyone else - young or not so - to experience the same at a time of crisis with their gynecologist. P.S. I learned that Planned Parenthood would accept my insurance. Thank goodness the new Affordable Care Act seems as though it would cover such tests. The irony is practices such as this doctors are located in upscale areas like G'town and Bethesda, yet have hangups about dealing STD testing. We can do without the attitude from our healthcare providers. read more

Dr. Kesselman is exceptionally professional. I was seen on time. She met with me in her office before and after my exam. (She does not let you hang out in the paper gown longer than is necessary.) The exam was quick and she communicated with me throughout my time at the end of the table. She is kind, personable and respectful. She answered all my questions and did not make me feel alienated by my concerns. Her staff is consistent with baseline for most practices in DC. They are not going to 'wow' you with friendliness. (This is the main reason she is not in the 5-star category.) FYI: I am not seeing Dr. Kesselman for obstetric reasons. read more
