Don't usually give five stars to a place I've only visited once, but I occasionally make an exception -- and Stella's definitely deserves the exception! Honestly, the star of this restaurant is its olive oil. I could've eaten the warm pita and olive oil and considered that a meal. It's so good, they sell it -- and I brought some home with me on the plane! My friend and I shared the Kreatopita to start; almost like Greek egg rolls. Phyllo dough with ground beef and cheese inside -- nothing bad there! Tzatziki on the side, which was a great complement to the savory-ness of the beef and cheese. The tzatziki is thicker than at other places; so good! For the main course, I had the chicken souvlaki, but without peppers (allergy), which came with friend potato wedges. Honestly, whenever I've had fried potatoes they come out kind of mushy and greasy; these were neither. They were crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly on the inside. We had a wonderful server, who did a great job with the bar and tables, even though the place was packed. I kept missing all the friend group dinners at Stella's due to something or another over the years but finally... finally I was free and the stars aligned and I was going to experience what everyone loved so much! I didn't love it but mainly for the experience for our server. The FOH was fantastic though. Our table wasn't ready yet and they apologized so many times. They got us water and drink menus to look over while we waited, and even took a group pic for us. They were friendly and welcoming. I was like, "oh this is going to be a great place!" I had expectations in my head based upon what I heard from friends and maybe that was the problem? Our server was clicking his pen nonstop while taking our order. A person would order, he would write it down, click click click, next person same thing, and sometimes there was a hesitation or trying to figure out how to pronounce the item and you could hear, "click click click click click." As a former server, nothing extremely off-putting or unexpected at a restaurant, Pikelia, isn't something we say every day and we don't want to be offensive when we say it. Anyways, It just felt like we were bothering/inconveniencing him. One person asked what he liked or recommended and the deep breath/sigh that left him immediately told me, "he is DONE for the day." There was 10 of us and 4 were from out of town and had never been to Stella's before. I'm a local and had never been and i'm not a "look at the menu before" type of person - sue me.. but patience would have been nice. Nothing took long - the drinks/food all came out fast. It was just that it felt we were being rushed throughout the entire 1.5 hours we were there. We asked for water and he said, "there are bottles on the table... oh, they're empty, you already drank all the water." (it's hard to depict tone here but it's like someone who was just DONE. defeated. idk hates his job. Not mad at us but like... annoyed at the situation) But yes sir we did did drink it all, you brought 2 bottles of water for 10 girls when it was 85 degrees outside. We drank all the water. He brought containers out but not enough and was annoyed at that too. I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible just because I was uncomfortable with the service. Had to return for another visit after our first 5 years ago. Made an early dinner reservation for a Saturday night. We're seated at a lovely table in the window. I looked at the menu ahead of our visit to try to plan out what to order but it all went out the window when the daily special included Branzini. I have never found better Branzini than at Stella's. Had to try the skordalia and taramousalata too. Both needed salt and seemed runny but they were ok. Trying to choose a wine was difficult until finding the red on tap. It was nicely dry medium-bodied and I could order it by the carafe. Best value and went nicely with all the dishes. My husband's souvlaki was very good. Grilled chicken skewer with onion, large potato wedges and a side of tzatziki. I don't know what I was thinking to have ordered so much food. I just wanted to try everything. Be brave. Get the fish. It's huge, with buttery meat, and the best crispy skin ever. Don't forget the cheeks. Eat carefully for the bones but oh so worth it! Stellas is ALWAYS a go to when I'm in Charleston!! I came on a previous trip and knew I had to make a return trip on my latest visit. There's parking nearby through the college of Charleston and I highly recommend making a reservation or coming early for walkin happy hour seating or really late! The vibes both inside and outside are so beautiful and relaxing. The patio is adorable and really feels cozy. We ordered a couple drinks including the Saint Sophia and the Santorini. I love an Aperol Spritz and the first time I tried Stella's, I loved the addition of St. Germain so much I made sure to add a bottle to my own collection at home! We ordered hummus and tabouleh with pita as well as spanakopita to start. The tabouleh was refreshing and the hummus was smooth and creamy. But the star of the show was the spanakopita!! For mains, I had the pastichio. it comes out as a block of casserole with layers of bechamel, meat, and noodles. It was so rich and delicious I couldn't finish so had plenty of leftovers afterwards!! Stella's came with glowing reviews from MANY people so of course we had try! We did make a reservation but to be honest I'm not sure we would have needed it. We came at 8:45 and there were tons of tables. Either way, the hostess was nice and seated us outside which a great because they have a great patio. We started off with some drinks and I got the saint sophia which is an aperol spritz and it was crisp and refreshing. They also gave us bread and olive oil which was delicious. For starters, we got the hummus and tabbouli and the spanokopita and both were excellent! The menu has a big selection of Greek favorites, I've been here quite a few times and appreciate that I don't end up ordering the same thing every time. I wanted to take my mom somewhere nice while she was visiting in Charleston and Stella's has been on my list for awhile. We both love Greek food, so we were very excited! We ordered the dolmades and keftedes for our appetizers. Normally, I do not like tzatziki sauce, but they defiantly add garlic to it that makes it absolutely delicious! The dolmades were good and I loved the tzatziki. The keftedes blew me away! The beef and lamb mix were cooked to perfection and had so much flavor! We had a dinner that was paid for by work, $200 limit. We got grilled octopus and the trio dipper thing as appetizers (didn't know we could ask for more pita- our waitress kept vanishing)...all of that was good. The octopus was really good. Then my husband got the lamb something with noodles. The noodles were amazing and the lamb sauce was balanced so well and it was so good. I got the sampler meal and it was okay, def not as good as his lol. Then for dessert we got the baklava and the flourless chocolate cake. The dessert was very underwhelming, it was beautiful but nothing amazing. If we ever go again - we probs will, I will get the lamb. Also I made reservations but there were no options for a table inside and we took our 5 year old. The patio was so cute, we had the one side to ourselves bc it was cold that night and it was great. They had heating lamps and it kept us and our food at a perfect temp even though we were outside in the cold. The only thing I didn't like was we were right beside the road and there was road noise (to be expected lol). Also with all that food, our total was only like $150!! The food here is out of this world! I recommend sitting outside on the patio if the weather allows, it is super cozy and intimate but inside is great too. Everytime I've come here the service has been top notch as well! We went last night and were the last table there and at no point felt rushed or like an inconvenience. We had a reservation for dinner last night and we were very pleased with outr visit. I ate here a few months ago when I was in town the last time and just had to take my friends here to show it off. We sat at the cute bar and our server was fabulous. She made sure that we were greeted and taken care of throughout our visit. Two of us split a bottle of wine in which she suggested for us and it was so good. It was quite similar to a Pinot Grigio. The other two of us ordered dirty martinis that were interesting because they were made with Kalamata olives but they were still very delicious. The tabouli and hummus plate was a bit small so we ordered two of those as an appetizer. The hummus was much better than the tabouli I would prefer to just order hummus next time. The salmon and orzo was delicious and fresh. I ordered the chicken souvlaki again and it was just as good as my first visit. The dolmades were delicious as well with the tzatziki. I'll always pro free bread. Also, your server poors fresh olive oil out for you. - Inside is nice and dark. This can be a nice date location. - It's something different! Think really nice Italian Restaurant vibes, but Greek. - Menu really does have something for everyone. - Fries will change your perception of fries. Cons: - A bit pricey in my opinion. The chicken Souvlaki was $24 dollars and I felt like it should have been in the $18 dollar range. - Inappropriate conversations at the bar with employees. Sure, sure, I guess I'm just old school, buttttttt while I'm eating/trying to relax I don't really want to hear an employee try to convince a waitress to start an Only Fans (loudly). I was 8 feet a way or so and it was a little uncomfortable being that close hearing that while eating. (I was sitting at the bar smack up where the servers stand) Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If you love Greek food, make sure to stop here! Service: Our waiter was so attentive to me and my boyfriend. He brought over multiple bread baskets and cold water jugs. This was very appreciated because the hot and humid Charleston weather takes a lot out of you! Food: For the price, the portions are so generous! I ordered the Moussaka while my boyfriend ordered a pasta dish. The pasta entree reminded me of a Greek version of spaghetti. What was unique about the noodles, however, were the hollow noodles! Let's talk about delicious Greek food y'all. Because that is what you will get at Stella's. We made a reservation for dinner. I highly suggest making a reservation. They were busy while we were there. It was a Monday night. When a table emptied, there were people waiting to fill it. Since we made a reservation we did not have to wait. We sat at the bar. They have a lot of bar seats. This was very enjoyable. Because you get to see and experience more of the restaurant. But if you don't want to sit at the bar you need to specify on your reservation. The atmosphere at Stella's is casual. There are clay pots above you. They are playing Greek music to set the mood while you are enjoying your meal. There are long counters with bar stools and a few banquets, along with some seating in an outdoor area in the back. The dolmades served with tzatziki is flavorful. I love tzatziki! And theirs did not disappoint. This was a great starter. Also is you are a vegetarian, it is meat free. Our entrees were flavorful and seasoned well. Such a delight! I will say that reading the menu can feel a little overwhelming. It was difficult to understand some parts of it. Especially with the menu items that have numbers, they could use more explanation. I've been wanting to try Stella's for a while and then randomly a friend and I were walking towards King to find a quick bite and we stopped to see if we could get a table. My thought was that it was a Friday evening in July so there was no chance of any openings, but to our surprise, they were able to get us a table on the patio with only a five minute wait! I am in love with the menu and there were so many things I wanted to try. We were planning for some appetizers and entrees, but we got a little overzealous with our apps that there was no way we could venture to the other side of the menu. The portions are on the larger side and there's a lot of bread happening so we filled up fast. First they started us with bread and oil, then we had a hummus dip with fresh pita, next was the Saganaki (aka flaming cheese) also served with pita, and finally the Kreatopita which is wrapped in phyllo dough. We maybe should have planned it out better, but we just kinda panic ordered when our waiter came by and didn't really think it through. Luckily everything was delicious. Their pita is amazing so I wasn't complaining about the copious amounts of it we ate. My friend had been once before and wanted to order the Kreatopita but couldn't remember the name of it. He described it as mini burritos which I thought was hilarious and surprisingly accurate because our server knew exactly what he was talking about. The star of the night was the Saganaki for sure. Cheese that comes to the table on fire is always going to be a win. The only thing was that because we were on the patio, the flame extinguished immediately leaving some of the liquid (I'm guessing some soft of alcohol) behind and off taste on those parts that weren't very melty. It turned out to be a great meal and actually very inexpensive since we only had some appetizers and beers. Now I'm looking forward to coming back a few times to work my way through more of the menu. Fell in love with this more after I finished my dinner! My friend and I lucked out with two open seats at the bar without a reservation or wait. The bar seating is spacious and you will not feel like you're intruding on someone else's space. There are other indoor table seating, as well as outdoor patio seating. This is an intimate classy place, not overly dark (which can be a pain to read the menu sometimes). We ordered two dishes: Pastichio and Pikelia. Pastichio - I would say this dish reminded me of shephards pie, except there are "fat noodles" baked at the bottom, spiced ground beef, and bechamel and cheese on top. Loved each layer of this savory dish. Pikelia - This is tasting plate of the smaller "meze" dishes. It came with pork souvlaki, tiropita, spanakopita, kreatopita, dolmades, and served with tzatziki. This is like a bang for your buck dish if you want to try a little bit of everything. All in all, it may look a little pricey when you first look at the menu, but both dishes were larger that I expected and super filling for two people (and maybe even three). Tried Stella's for the first time this past weekend for my friend's bday dinner. The servers are extremely knowledgeable about all the courses and the decor is absolutely beautiful. We were a bigger party of 8 people, so we were able to try a lot of the dishes. Even with a huge party our server was able to handle all of our requests efficiently! The food had a few hits and quite a few misses. My favorite dish was probably the fried calamari or the moussaka. My least favorite was the chicken Kotopoulo, my friend ordered. The Branzino was also one of the standouts of the night. The Kotopoulo tasted like pure lemons. As if they poured lemon juice on the chicken and baked it. I didn't taste any other herbs or spices. My dish, the shrimp ouzu bucatini tasted like tomatoes and shrimp with feta, no real seasonings either. None of the dishes were very flavorful with the exception of the branzino and the braised lamb. I also really enjoyed the kapnos, it was my favorite drink of the night! The drinks were a bit slow coming at first, but eventually they started flowing. I likely wouldn't go to Stella's again for the food but I would definitely go back for the awesome service and vibe! read more

This is my second time visiting Charleston and my second experience at this restaurant. The service was very good and the appetizers were great! We tried the shrimp on some type of pea purée with a creamy tomato sauce. It sounds like a strange combination but it was great. The grilled octopus was the best thing I tried all night. The calamari was tasty but too salty. Now did the entrees . . . Three of us tried the sea bass. It was the special for the night and three of us hated it. The portion was huge (not a bad thing if it had been tasty) and it came with a healthy serving of rice mixed with spinach. The lamb shank was even worse and so was the presentation. It looked like an overcooked slab of roast beef and tasted the same. The leg of lamb looked amazing but tasted like an over seasoned piece of gamey fat dunked in a thick gravy that was not good either. My friend got the pasta with a tomato base and shrimp. It was amazing. Finally, the desert. We tried their versions of baklava and the gelato. Both were the basics with a twist. The baklava was a pinwheel shape with chocolate chips. The gelato had some lemon crumbles and blueberry. I wish they had just done the basics. Needless to say that my first experience was 5/5. My second experience not so much. This is the place to go to be happy! There is an air of joy that envelopes you as you take a seat to a back drop of robust Greek music. Today we had a few mezze plates. Happy hour is 4-6pm and we were there at 5.55 and got to enjoy a few of the specials. The Shrimp plate came with three grilled shrimp lettuce and a dipping sauce. The taramasalata came with pita slices and the cheese and olive plate was a great start to our meal. I enjoyed the chicken souvlakia with roasted Greek potatoes and my friend ordered the pastichiath, Greek noodles with a spicy meat sauce. Both our meals were exceptional. We ordered two: the stuffed grape leaves, which were good, and the zucchini fritters, which were overly salted. One of us had the moussaka and two tried the artichoke moussaka--if you don't enjoy being overwhelmed by nutmeg I suggest you avoid those dishes. The salmon on the kale salad was overdone and the salad was just a bunch of large leaves that were hard to manage.
