[Note, this visit was July 2021] Evening, the place was mostly empty, the barmaid (an owner I believe) ignored me for a long time while chatting with her friends. She finally came over and I tried to make friendly conversation, that got a gruff reply so I asked for WT was told, "We don't do Wild Turkey." An expensive whiskey bar with glacial service that doesn't serve one of the most popular and oldest bourbons in America, it's like a bakery without bread. I ordered an EC12 instead and afterward she ignored me and never came back, so I went to a nearby brewery and received great service. I encourage the owners to visit a real whiskey bar, even better, go work in a popular bar where you will be held to a standard and learn the ropes. Someone call Jon Taffer. read more

Steiner's Speakeasy is the best bar in Chillicothe. It's better than anyone would suspect a hillbilly town would have. This has great beer and cocktails. It has kind of a limited cocktail menu but they can make many custom drinks. The options are better than any other bar in town. I had the cucumber beverage with gin. It's called something but the name of it escapes me. This was about $5 so it was a good amount for the price. A good thing about the bar is that it's not full of loud mouth sports fans. It helps that there isn't a TV. For once you won't have to hear toothless hillbillies yelling over each other. You can get that at almost every other bar there. It's located in a better area. There's a few new businesses that have opened recently. I would go to Steiner's Speakeasy the next time in Chillicothe. It's a good place for proving there is civilization among the hills. There isn't a cooler place in town. read more

I'm so proud of Tara for being a boss business owner and figuring out how to stay in business while respecting her employees and their time. The drinks were very refreshing and she kept us up to date about the new rules so we knew when to leave at closing. The patio furniture is so comfortable and there was plenty of room for social distancing. Due to covid you're not allowed to order from the bar but we had very attentive service so there was really no need to leave our spot where we sat. This bar is a cool hole in the wall in Chillicothe but the people are genuine and welcoming and that's why I will keep returning! read more

About the only thing I can review is the service. That's not hard. There was no service. My three friends and I stopped in for a couple drinks. We were fairly quiet, talking about sports and awaiting service. We sat for 15 minutes and were totally ignored. They weren't busy and half the tables were empty. It was obvious they didn't want us in there. Why? We were dressed casually. Nothing unusual about us. Maybe they didn't like that two of us were wearing baseball type caps? Maybe we weren't dressed in the Goth styles of some of the other people in there. Who knows. I do know one thing: we'll never be back. Don't waste your time on this place. There are plenty of other decent bars in Chillicothe. I wouldn't have even given it one star but you have to to get you review posted. read more

"Speakeasy" is a term thrown around way too much. This place isn't hidden or hard to find. It's a beer bar, with only around 6 on tap, that has okay cocktails. Nothing really stood out. The restaurants in Chillicothe have better, or, they basically all have the same. ...and yes, I'm a cocktail snob. When you see on the menu that they muddle their Old Fashioned's orange and cherry, it's time to leave.... read more

I feel like Yelp let me down a little with this one. My picky but understanding self went on a busy Thursday night with live music and was hoping for a decent cocktail. The place was packed with people I'd expect to see in small town Ohio. After dine and drink at the R Kitchen, this was a bit of a womp-womp. The music was super loud so you had to congregate by the bar, but the bar was packed too. There was no drink list to be found and I couldn't really see the gins from the other end of the bar. The bartender seemed annoyed that I asked a question, but also seemed annoyed to just be there period. I was kinda with him on that. Everyone in sight was drinking crap beer. They do have Angel's Envy bourbon which is one of my faves, so that was redeeming. I wasn't expecting much bar-wise during my Chillicothe work expeditions and it seems this is The Place to Be, so my big city expectations should be adjusted. I'm from rural Texas and need to get back to my small town bar roots. I'll be back, hoping to check out the drink list and with my newly adjusted expectations, it may be more of a hit than a miss. Anything without maraschino cherries in it would be an improvement over visit #1. read more

Live music is always a plus. I'm in town for a buddy's birthday so we decided to stop by here. The atmosphere is chill and service is quick. The beer selection is actually very good. The crowd appears to be random, but good music and great beer wins. I got an amber ale and of course it tasted great. They also have a top shelf of great bourbon/whisky to select from. I can see myself chilling here for a few hours listening to the live music while getting drinks instantly. I would recommend this joint to all my fellow travelers or locals. read more

The owner Tara is very rude to customers, it was our first time there, she yelled at us for asking if she was able to do a peach daiquiri. We were a group of 6 taking a 22 year old family member out for their birthday and first drink in a bar, they wanted a peach daiquiri. Before ordering one of our family members turned around to ask if the birthday boy wanted it on the rocks or froze Tara started saying in a rude tone "We don't do daiquiri's, "they asked even on the rocks?" She angrily said "WE DON'T DO ANY DAIQUIRI'S" and yelled across the room to an employee, "Get these people a menu" in an angry tone. Needless to say we turned around and left immediately, she didn't deserve our money. If you want to be treated with respect this "IS NOT" the place to go. We were warned she will probably be rude, she's only nice to her regulars. We found that out first hand how rude she really is, DON'T Waste Your Time or Money! read more

I wish I could give 6 stars. Tara is just a really welcoming person I met years ago as a Jagermeister sales rep. We both agreed it wasn't a good brand for her vision and still struck up a great conversation about her business. Fast forward maybe 9 years later I was in town for fun and stopped in. Varied beer selection: the best in town. I always have a good time here. Nice friendly atmosphere. The bar not only has the classic cocktails but Tara has developed her own concoctions. Tara and the other bartenders know about the beers on tap and in the cooler. I love going in and telling them what I'm in the mood for and having them suggest a new one I haven't tried. Most times I am pleased with their suggestion. I understand that they don't serve food but I wish there was some simple items. read more

Very interesting and cool place. Went for the first time to see our favorite band last night. The only reason for three stars is because of the unfriendly seemingly annoyed bartender. Never saw her smile and just seemed like she didn't want to be there. I would suggest finding someone more friendly and personable to bartend there! Wow, what a cool find in Chillicothe! Having never been to Chillicothe I really didn't know what to expect, but downtown Chillicothe is very cute! And this bar was a welcome surprise. The drink menu was very impressive with a nice selection of cocktails and a great selection of beers on tap. My only recommendations would be for the bar staff to be familiar with the styles of beer that are on tap (they weren't) and the Old Fashioned was a bunch of muddled fruit in room temp bourbon. If you like your Old Fashioneds old fashioned, then don't order this. There are a bunch of other cocktails to try. I also hear you have to try the Hooch. I didn't because I wanted to remember the night, but maybe next time! Definitely come here if you are in the area. Great place! read more
