Buyer Beware.... This company can care less how they inconvenience their customers. First off they don't cancel my 7:00AM installation when it is pouring rain. The installer shows up about an hour late with no call. Then it is too wet and rainy to install the door. Why didn't they just reschedule? Then he says that he will call me in the early afternoon and try to install the door in the afternoon when the weather breaks. I have to rearrange my entire day missing work and never receive a call. I have to call them and they don't even know what is going on. Two hours later I receive a call to reschedule like it was no big deal. No apology...Nothing. Meanwhile my $1000 door gets to sit in the back of a pickup truck all day soaking in the rain. read more

First, I have to say that I LOVE my new security door. Simply LOVE IT. I understand that it might sound extreme, but after the anticipation of ordering and waiting for it to be manufactured and then getting into the installation rotation and finally seeing it in person: IT'S GORGEOUS. They have the sales guy take measurements to come to find out when installation is to happen that they do not have the correct measurements and have to wait 2 weeks or more for them to correct issue. This is the 2nd time this has happened with this company. I ask lady for some type of compensation and said well there's nothing she can do. read more

We had originally stopped by another shop because we had seen their ad in the mall; when we arrived to their showroom four people sat around with not even a hello as we browsed for about 7-10 minutes discussing options. After no one paid us any attention I quickly knew how the future of working with this company was going to go..been there, not gonna do that.. So we left and that lead us to find Steel Shield after some research. Steel Shield answered right away and we got an appointment with John Haines. John is a great guy to work with. Once John took the time to go over what we wanted he made a few suggestions but we ultimately decided on what we originally wanted and he didn't pressure us, just informed us. John took his time taking the measurements, told us he would be in touch and we saw home once more after that as he wanted to double check his work. When the gate was ready, right on time, two guys came for the install and did a perfect job. I'm pretty anal when it comes to alignment and equal spacing but between john's measurements, the actual fabrication of the gate and the install they couldn't have nailed it more! Solid, great looking product that you couldn't get installed any better. We've had our security door for three years now. It still looks great. Recently I noticed it was sticking at the top. I called for warranty service and they were very friendly. They sent over the service man, Conrad, within a week. When he got here to told me that just looking at it he could see it had shifted. John Haines texted me the estimate. I asked for it in writing. No reply. Finally called him. He said there's no point in writing it up till he knows he has the sale. Explained I wanted it in writing to compare with other estimates. He said he'd email me and said goodbye. I asked him if he had my email address (I knew he did not). He replied he couldn't take it down since he was driving. So he had no intent of emailing me the estimate as I asked. Unfortunately, I found him to be a stereotypical salesman; not interested in doing anything he thinks doesn't relate to a sale. I had to have them come back after installation to do the job right, which they did after excessive insistence on my part. One year later and no warranty, the lock mechanism on the door malfunctioned. I actually got locked in. The door could only be opened from the outside. I used a locksmith company to fix it, and learned that the lock hadn't been installed properly in the first place. It was not the right size for the door and the screws on the inside were not tightened down as they should be in order to make the lock fit. Consequently one screw fell out and threw off the adjustments fir the key to work. I was also told that there was no way that door would've protected me if someone wanted to get in. The mechanism would've fallen apart. Also if there was an emergency such as a fire, I would've been trapped inside, as I live on the second floor and only have one exit, other than jumping out a window. I am not happy with my experience and do not recommend this company. read more

This company makes you sign off an initial in over a dozen places for a simple project, costing less than $2k, and they still don't quite get it right. They will argue with you about the smallest items, and forgot to leave keys with you, then try to charge you $95/HR to come service the keys. Avoid this company if you can. read more

Steel Shield delivered a great product at a reasonable price. We had them do security doors and custom window-guard ironwork for us. Their installed products look and feel like high quality ironwork, and the installation was done right the first time. For the custom ironwork, they sent over CAD drawings for us to confirm or to have revised. We requested a revision to correct an aspect of the proposed design, but it was a painless process and it was nice to be able to catch that before it went into fabrication. We were also able to stop by their factory storefront on the weekend to see our products in the shop as they neared completion. They didn't mess around with the pricing like a competitor did that we cross-shopped, so they also get points for that. The quoted price was not only better than the competitor without having to negotiate, they also didn't have a bunch of "oh I forgot to add"s or other post-quote fees tacked on like we experienced at the other vendor. Their volume of work at the time we ordered resulted in about a 5 week total wait from time of order to the product arriving for installation. We were surprised that the installation was a one-man job, but he (I think his name was Javier?) knew his stuff and did a great job. read more

I have read your review and I am extremely sorry for your experience yesterday. Having spoken to my installer(Buzz) who was at your home yesterday and my office manager (Josie) to hear their explanation as well of what took place,I would like to address your comments on a point by point basis. First of all I would like to say that we as a company are very concerned about inconveniencing our customers. We always try to be on time with our installations and our installers are instructed to call the customer if they are running late.After speaking with my installer he explained to me that he arrived at your home between 7:45 AM and 8:00 AM. My scheduler showed me the schedule for yesterday and you were scheduled for a window of 7-9 AM. We always schedule a two hour window when booking an installation. It has been our company practice since inception. Perhaps there was a misunderstanding as to the time frame but the installer would have called you if he could not arrive by 9:00 AM. The reason we did not just cancel your installation was because we would have preferred to install your door yesterday and the weather in different parts of the valley can be very different. It might be sunny at our location and pouring at yours. It can clear up and if it did we would have been able to install your door. When the installer was at your home and it was pouring and windy outside, he said he told you that he would call you later in the day if the weather cleared up and he would come back to your home to install the door. 1) WRONG - HE SAID THAT HE WOULD CALL ME BY 1:00PM AND NEVER DID. He said that you told him it would be fine and to please give you 30 minutes notice if he was going to return. 2) WRONG AGAIN - I SAID FOR HIM TO CALL ME 30 MINUTES BEFORE HE PLANNED TO ARRIVE. He checked the weather reports for Fountain Hills continuously after he left you and they kept saying severe storm warnings and it never cleared up. That is the reason he did not call you back to install the door yesterday. 3) WRONG AGAIN -THE WEATHER WAS FINE FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS IN THE EARLY AFTERNOON. He did notify Josie at our office to contact you to reschedule the installation once he knew he would not be coming back. Josie said she did call you and spoke to you twice to re-schedule the installation at a time convenient for you and that you told her you would call her back with a time. She is waiting to hear back from you. 4) WRONG YET AGAIN _ NOBODY CALLED ME. I CALLED YOUR OFFICE AT 3:00PM WONDERING WHERE YOUR INSTALLER WAS. JOSIE DID CALL ME AN HOUR OR SO AFTER THAT TO RESCHEDULE. I WAS NOT ABOUT TO LOSE ANOTHER DAY OF WORK. Once again please accept my apology for any misunderstandings that may have occurred but I can't apologize for the weather. There were storm and tornado warnings all day yesterday and we were inundated with cancellations and re-schedules. 5) DON'T TRY TO INSTALL DOORS DURING SEVERE WEATHER. We do everything in our power to make dealing with our company a pleasant experience and sincerely value and respect our customers and them taking the time to be at home during an installation. Once again, I am sorry this happened to you but I can assure you the door and the installation will be beautiful when it is finished. 6) YEAH, I'M SURE THAT IT WILL BE BE JUST BEAUTIFUL BANGING AROUND IN A PICKUP TRUCK ALL DAY IN THE POURING RAIN. Instead the cane up with a solution for a brace between the 2 walls. Saved me a ton of money and it looks like a piece of the gate and is perfect fit. Highly recommend them. read more

I went through Adobe Blinds in Maricopa and they set up Steel Shield for my security door. I am so pleased with the installer, a very professional and polite young man named Buzz. He arrived promptly and explained that the installation was going to be a bit noisy and that he would be done in 2-3 hours. I let him do this thing and in 2 hours, maybe even a little less, it was done. Buzz had me inspect the door and it was absolutely beautifully installed. It was squared up, solid, and sturdy. It was obvious that he took time at every step to make sure everything was done nicely. After the install, he explained to us how the door works (very different than the old screen doors of my youth) and how to operate the door in different situations (i.e. if we needed more than the 90 degree opening). Buzz was very patient with our questions and me reiterating everything to make sure I got it all, especially the grease gun part. Then he went through their checklist and everything was perfect. No gaps of light anywhere, everything was level and the caulking was so even that I wished Buzz was the one who did the interior of my house. So I'm really glad that the installer who came yesterday made up excuses to not install my door - I had someone pressure washing my roof at the same time and he didn't want to get sprayed even though I told him I had gutters that would solve the problem and it was obvious that the drain spouts were doing their job, but I guess he didn't feel like working. Was inquiring about a security door for my home, but made the mistake of calling this company. First, we had to deal with a "sales" person who didn't know anything about their products or installation process and then we had to deal with a condescending and pushy salesperson who didn't know the first thing about customer service. Second, somehow the price we were originally given, somehow increased by about $75.00. We ended up going to First Impressions for our door and our experience there was completely different. I would recommend any security door company besides Steel Shield if you're looking in Arizona. We replaced our 20+ year old security screen doors with doors made by Steel Shield, front door, back door and double arcadia door. The experience was pleasant from start to finish. We selected a basic design style from among many options. The advertised and quoted price included removal of our old doors, color/finish of our choosing, and hardware (double bolt locks and handles) in a finish of our choosing. The installer did a great job. It took him about 4 or 5 hours to install all 4 doors because he was careful with all the details including getting the doors hinged properly, custom fitting the bolt locks, and adjusting the automatic door closure. I think it is a little unusual today to find a contractor that does quality work at the advertised price with no gimmicks. Steel Shield did this and more. The new doors are an incredible improvement to our house at a reasonable price, and really update and improve the look of our entry. read more

I went to this company because they were veteran owned and I am a veteran. The process to order was great and Norm was very nice when he came over to do measurements. 4 weeks passed and my door was ready. First I was scheduled to be available on a Thursday from 7-9, then was called to reschedule for 8-10. The installer did not show up until 0951, which meant I would have to be at home for another 2 hrs. To my dismay, they built my door wrong and had to return to the shop to fix. I had to reschedule for another day and spend another two hours waiting. I requested some sort of discount twice for the inconvenience and was given a no through another person, not even the manager. I was extremely flexible with all the reschedules and am very disappointed in how they responded to this request. Maybe if I would have immaturely yelled and screamed at them on the phone I would've gotten a discount. Not worth the thousands of dollars I paid for this door :( read more
