FINALLY!! A dance studio with amazing instructors AND free parking!!! Oh and it also doesn't break the bank =) The studio owner, Christina, is a total SWEETHEART! I emailed her a while back asking about their virgin pole classes and she was thoughtful enough to email me down the road to let me know about their foundation classes that were starting. I emailed her back explaining my situation and how I wasn't sure where I would really fit. I at that point has been doing pole dance for a year. I immediately get an email from the lead teacher, Deb, telling me I was more than welcome to drop into her class along with a description of what it was she does in this particular class. She even gave me her number to call her if I was planning on dropping in!! I ended up trying out a foundation class with Zoe (HIGHLY recommend this for you ladies looking to add a little sassy skip in your step), but ultimately feel that the intermediate class is where I belong. I live too far away to study with Deb at her new studio. I can't wait 'til my schedule makes it possible. But I did study with Deb for many years in the city. I've had a few instructors but none combined strength, support, acceptance and warmth as much as Deb all while kicking your butt!! Even better she has a real gift of being able to foster the creation of a supportive and fun, fun, fun group of women. As a woman who has worked primarily with men most of my career (and add a healthy dash of shyness), I don't really have much practice finding or creating a "family" of women friends but I truly value having that. There's no therapy like pole therapy! It's good for the body and soul. I've been in love since first spin. And since then, I've tried a few different styles and studios but Steel Heart Dance is my favorite! There is just something healing about tapping into a part of yourself that you don't get to do during the regular part of your life. Deb (instructor) and Christina (owner) are the perfect people to help. They're warm, inviting, and encouraging. They've created a very safe, welcoming environment for their students to explore and discover themselves. The studio is an awesome space!!! I had gotten used to two to six poles studios, and even pole classes taught on pole stages instead of floor-to-ceiling poles since space is limited in The City (San Francisco). Not this studio! This studio has TEN fantastically sturdy 18'(?) poles! The floor was recently redone and is brand spanking new. They also have aerial hoop and aerial silks rigging points. Who could ask for more? Well, SHD offers more by having plenty of free parking! No need to circle or pay about meters. No need to worry about street cleaning or time limits on parking. The best workout for mind, body and soul - that's what you get at Steel Heart Dance - a safe place to dance, to play on the poles with women who are sexy, strong and supportive. Not only does pole dancing tone your body - it is a place to come and forget about the outside world and tone your mind!!! The studio owner is AMAZING - she is so kind and so funny. The head instructor is a total rock star - she would BLOW YOUR MIND with what she can do on the pole, but she is the most humble, engaging and wonderful person - there's nothing intimidating about her - just pure acceptance of you and love for this art!! As for the studio itself, it must be the biggest pole studio where there are like 12 poles!!! OMG - so you never have to fight for pole time (like at some other studios). The dance floor is enormous - they even have fabric for doing aerial tricks. One of my favorite things about this studio (other than the black light so my outfit GLOWS in the dark!) is the awesome community of SF Bay Area women who come here - lawyers, doctors, hair stylists, executives, dancers, teachers, writers - you name it - they are here and they have one thing in common - they love to pole dance!! read more

Today I had an amazing experience with a group of inspiring, amazing women. This was my second visit to Steelheart Dance. I am a mother of three and can hardly ever find time for my aspirations. The instructor Debra Arana is an accomplished Pilates instructor and Black Belt in JiuJiutsu. (I believe this is a short list of her many life accomplishments. This class allowed me to free myself of stress, anxiety and the worries of the world. I will be inviting every woman I meet to consider giving this a try regardless of their fitness level. I never thought I would have much fun exercising as I did while taking the virgin pole dancing class. Our instructor, Zoe, was amazing and made you feel so good about yourself. They welcomed everyone and made you feel like you have been friends with them for years. I am a fan and plan on taking additional dancing classes from them. After spending a very long week of boring unsexy office work I was finally able to take my virgin pole class today and yes I've lost my pole virginity. The studio is sexy, the women are sexy and the class was sexy! I felt super comfortable expressing my sexuality and Deb was an aweeeesome instructor! I never wanted to leave! My lovely Maid of Honor planned my bachelorette party and we ended up here! I totally loved the class we took. It was a two hour long class., we warmed up first and we started doing all these cool moves. During this time we learned two routines (good to know if you want to surprise your husband on your wedding night lol) the instructor was patient and really chill. She made it comfortable for us to participate in the class. She even gave us a little show at the end! Had a really fun and interesting time! read more
