The lady working to assist us was very patient and helpful. The place was clean and overall had a nice vibe. I don't drink coffee but I went in with my family of 3 who do drink coffee. My mom is widely known as a coffee snob so we had to get her drink right. She was offered an Americando coffee so we decided on that which was altered to be two expresso shots and a little water. Also she steamed the cream as my mom likes her coffee "center of the sun hot." She was not disappointed. As no one else was either. Thank you for starting our day off right.

Steampunk is a cool coffee shop. I found myself in Natchez the other day while driving back from Monroe. I had a major vehicle problem the day before and had to extend my stay. What does this have to do with a coffee shop in Natchez? Stand by and I will tell you. So anyway, my vehicle decided to blow up and I needed to get a co-worker to come get me. It was lunchtime so we ate at a place with sentimental appeal for me and then I needed coffee. The hostess recommended Steampunk so off we went. See, I told you I would get there. I love cool, funky coffee shops. This is definitely cool yet funky. In addition to some great iced coffee, the shop was filled with all sorts of interesting decorations. There were animal heads on the walls, coffee implements on display. Hell, they even sold cigars. While I only stopped in and was out in a few minutes, this s the kind of place I could have sat and worked or hung out with friends. It will be my go-to coffee place anytime I am passing through Natchez.

My husband and I loved stopping by. This place is so cute & the coffee was great. Staff was also so kind

I Googled and found "Butter Cakery". We all agreed to sprint there since they closed in 15 minutes. We had no idea what to expect, then we opened the door. We were instantly transported to a corner of Paris in Natchez. The artwork, the marble, everything feels so Oui Paris. Come along. You're going with me!! The case of baked items had me drooling on the glass. The cupcakes were calling my name. Coconut. Belgian chocolate. Vanilla. All baked in paper cups and begging me to try them all. It was so hard to decide. I see a beautiful domed cake plate with the most gorgeous Belgian chocolate chip cookies. I must get one of those too. The macarons are stunning; like something in a magazine. I make my selections. She is boxing up my items in the cutest boxes and I'm giddy with excitement. I'm very proud of myself and at this point and happy with my Google find. I sat down and took one bite of that coconut cupcake. When I tell you that I floated off of my seat, I am not kidding. The crumb of the cupcake was perfection, that crème filling was heaven and the frosting was sheer delight. The balance of coconut flavor could not have been better! My aunt had a lemon cookie with creme cheese frosting and a lemon curd. So delicious! Lemon curd with the perfect tanginess (is that word? I just made it one!) and it didn't have any trace of egg taste. I tried the Belgian chocolate chip cookie and lavender cookie and got another cupcake to consume tonight and tomorrow. Everything was just that amazing. We can't wait to finish the rest later today and tomorrow morning. Listen folks, you are missing out if you don't try this place. Butter Cakery is a hidden gem but let's not keep it hidden. Everyone should enjoy this level of baking skills. Everything is baked there and you can tell with each bite. We chatted with the owner while we consumed our goods. She is absolutely delightful. We all left feeling happier than we did when we went in.

It was a slow and enjoyable meal with good company and a great wine selection! The trees were magical at night - lit up well. We watched a patron become agitated and hostile at a table near us. He was upset that he had waited 27 minutes to get this main course. He was borderline belligerent. We felt sorry for their wait person, but she handled it well considering the circumstances. The manager interacted with him, and the more she apologized to him, the louder he got. We thought we were going to have to get up and intervene. She handled it beautifully. All of the wait staff were working hard and provided us with good service. The manager even offered to take our group photo outside as we were the last to leave. We will definitely return!

Monmouth (Natchez, MS)…read more The house is absolutely stunning!!! The staff there is so freaking friendly. And the food,... omggggg it was so good. I got the pork chop and *starts drooling* it was fantastic!! The home was built in 1818 by John Hankinson, a postmaster, lawyer and, steamboat entrepreneur, during the depression that followed the War of 1812. The mansion was a brick two-story in the Federal style. Hankinson and his wife died soon after completing the house and the house was sold at a public auction to Calvin Smith, who one year later sold the property to John Anthony Quitman, the future Governor of Mississippi. John Quitman, originally of New York City, was a partner in a successful Natchez law firm and married Eliza Turner, a member of one of the most prominent families. Quitman purchased Monmouth in 1826. The house was extensively renovated in 1853 in the Greek Revival style. The original brick was covered by stucco, scored to look like stone, and the portico was added to the front, along with the four square columns supporting it. John A. Quitman died at Monmouth on July 17, 1858, apparently a victim of what was then called the National Hotel Disease an ailment similar to Legionnaire's Disease, which many American politicians contracted after staying or dining at the National Hotel in Washington, D.C. His wife died a year later and their children took control of the home. In 1862, when Natchez was attacked by the Union army, most of the slaves fled. Most of Quitman's original possessions were either stolen in 1863 or sold by Quitman's daughters in 1865 due to financial difficulty. The house was spared from further damage during the war, as the daughters befriended a Union general and pledged loyalty to the United States. In 1866, three of the daughters purchased their siblings' share of the property, and by 1890, Annie Rosalie was the sole owner of Monmouth. In 1914, she died and left the home to her nieces, who sold it in 1924. For the next half century, the house was severely neglected with the house and other surviving structures filled with litter and the grounds overgrown. After several changes of ownership, Ronald and Lani Riches of Los Angeles, California, purchased the property in 1978 and restored it to its original condition. The restoration took 3 years. In 1982, after archaeological research determined the location of two small houses used as slave quarters, the buildings were reconstructed on the original sites. Though most of John Quitman's original furnishings had been lost, the house still contained a few pieces such as a sofa, a carved settee, and several chairs. The Riches searched for other furniture and memorabilia from Quitman, and they were able to recover his desk, two four-poster beds, and the Quitman family Bible. Other memorabilia now include the gold sword presented to Quitman by James K. Polk and the United States Congress for his services in the Mexican-American War, as well as the red handkerchief Quitman used to rally his troops.

Her name escapes me who gave the tour, but she was willing to provide both sides of the story of the home, and not a whitewashed version, which we appreciated. The home is very well taken care of and the grounds are beautiful. I cannot speak for the rooms as we did not see inside them and were not guests who stayed on the property. The house does not act as the place guests stay. They stay in other buildings that are on the property. Guest services were very nice as well.

Raw next time. Had the catfish LeBeaux and it was ok - a large portion. I'm not a fan of etoufee on top of fried food as the fried batter quickly becomes soggy. I should have ordered blackened as it might have been better. The etoufee was thick and bland. Luckily they had hot sauce on the table which made it better. Not sure why they don't have any cayenne in the etoufee recipe. Accompanying bread stick was stale. Tried the famous Alligator and Shrimp cheesecake. It was ok. Very rich and interesting flavor. The Yelp highly recommended plantation cake is no longer on the menu.
