    OH No! Closed...

Hot Tamale Trail - Stop #1/12 Oh No! Closed today... I herd that The Donut Shop was once praised by Alton Brown as making the best donuts in America. What about the tamales? Would have loved to try the "Big Pappa's" tamales... and the donuts!

Delicious glazed, blueberry powdered filled, Bavarian cream, and sprinkle, chocolate covered glazed. They are super nice there. The lady let me taste the blueberry filling and the cream before ordering. I had to have both of course!!!

BAAAABBBYYY!!! If these donuts ain't the ...ISH I ain't ever had a donut before!!! First I told the young lady it was my first time...and HUNTY...that fresh hot glazed donut was good down to my very bone!!! I love Natchez for a few reasons...and The Donut Shop is in my TOP 5 reasons! Now I be eatin' so I forget to take pictures...but what I got for you is my Word...got get you some Donut Shop donuts!!! I had a Porcupine or Pecan Roll...SCREAMING ABOUT THAT THANG!!! Baby if a porcupine taste this good please give me more!!! The strawberry & cream came highly recommended by my friend at The Donut Shop- o wish I knew her name...but she works there and had a beautiful smile. I always order the favorite dish/items of the staff and she hit that one out the park!!! Please remember me when I come back cause I WILL NOT FORGET YOU! The Donut Shop don't need me to tell y'all how amazing they are...check they history and know that Alton Brown told us first...I'm just letting y'all know so you don't allow another moment pass ( if you in Natchez) before you get some of their hot goodness in YA SOUL!!! Best donuts I've ever had. A very nice variety of pastries. There's a walk up window with a picnic table nearby. You won't be disappointed.

Donuts are best I've ever had and we drive 2 hours to get these on occasion. We are their biggest fans from Rayville La.

It's small inside, probably only about 10 tables or so. It's kinda like a pizza joint, but very clean and comfortable. There are brightly painted walls and it smells amazing! Service: You order at the counter, pay, get a number, and seat yourself. You get your own drinks and they bring the food out to you when it's ready. The wait for our food was maybe 10 minutes at the most? The girl who took our order and brought our food was very pleasant and made good suggestions when we were trying to figure out what to get. Food: I ended up getting the Big John's Cheeseburger (basically a classic cheeseburger) with curly fries. Yum, yum, yum. This burger tasted so homemade, like off the grill in the summer. It was juicy but not overly greasy. Personally, I would've liked a little less mayo and mustard but that is more just a preference. Oh my stars the fries! So good and FUN! It had been forever since I had curly fries. These do not disappoint. My fiance got the Jacked Up Burger (lettuce, tomato, mayo, pepper jack cheese, jalapeno peppers, bacon) and said kinda the same thing - super fresh and just yummy. The jalapeno peppers, pepper jack cheese, and bacon made it different then a regular burger and worked really well together. They have other specialty burgers, sandwiches, po'boys, BBQ plates, and salads. There is also a kid menu. Cost: Super inexpensive! Our burgers were only $10! They don't cheat you on portions either. The burgers were at least 8oz and you got a mound of curly fries. Free refills on fountain soda. It's probably a good thing I don't live around this place or I'd be eating burgers and fries wayyyy too often. If you are in Natchez Moo's is a must!

First, the location is perfect - central to shopping and several tour homes. The interior is creative and beautiful with vibrant colors and interesting art throughout. We were there for lunch, but the bar area looked like a great place for a drink. The food was amazing - quality food with some unique selections - definitely chef worthy. The portions were also substantial. I highly recommend giving Frankie's a try. So why the two stars? I rarely take the time to give an eatery a less than 4-star review, but the service experience should be honestly noted. We were one of the first to arrive well before the lunch crowd, and slightly earlier than our reservation. They seated us right away. There was only one or two other tables seated before us. We received our appetizers promptly and then waited ONE HOUR AND 20 MINUTES for the main course to arrive. We went quite some time without explanation. When the delay reached an absurd amount of time, the waitress eventually ask okwedged the situation and apologized. She explained that the kitchen had 2 other "events" to manage and were overwhelmed. They must have been offsite events since there were not any large groups in the dining area and the vault dining room was empty. The main dining room filled up while we were waiting, but food was not coming out of the kitchen. Our waitress seemed to go to the kitchen several times to check on our food. We completely missed the 1:00 tour and was worried we were going to miss the 2:00 tour. We finally had to ask if we needed to wrap up without eating so we wouldn't miss a second tour. A waitress cannot help what the kitchen is doing or not doing. She seemed genuinely distressed. Now here's the kicker... the owner Frankie himself passed by our table no less than 20 times. Each time he looked at our table without food and made zero eye contact. It was obvious that he knew we had been sitting for an extraordinary amount of time and that the waitress was trying to get some help, but his emotions appeared completely indifferent. If our business as tourists were important to him, it sure didn't feel like it. This was shocking to us, so we had to look up his photo to make sure this was indeed Frankie. Did he need to talk to us? No, but it sure would have been nice. What was shocking was his willingness to lay the burden of this service debacle on the shoulders of the wait staff. Rather than help her manage customer expectations and help the kitchen or tables, he just watched. We did notice numerous "to-go" orders going out the door sporadically while we waited. When our plates finally arrived, we slammed them quickly. It would have been nice to savor the meals after all of that wait, but we simply did not have the time. Our wait person apologized to us again on our way out. We are gracious and patient and know that things can happen that are beyond control. We did not ask for anything to be comped or discounted, but it would have been reasonable to make such an adjustment or maybe offer a free dessert or cocktail at a future visit. We tipped well. And honestly, we felt bad for her and all the others. On our way out, we noticed Frankie behind the bar talking to a couple. He did not acknowledge us as we walked by.

Reservations are needed but a kind, personable maitre de found a way to seat and serve us. Even sharing red hots with our crowd. I should have ordered blackened as it might have been better. The etoufee was thick and bland. Luckily they had hot sauce on the table which made it better. Not sure why they don't have any cayenne in the etoufee recipe. Accompanying bread stick was stale. Tried the famous Alligator and Shrimp cheesecake. It was ok. Very rich and interesting flavor.
