Okay and convenient dumplings that we can grab after work. I was disappointed with the steamed bun and had hoped the filling would have differed from the pork dumplings. It could have been that we arrived a hour before closing but the meal could have been steamed a little longer. The shao mai was quite chewy within minutes. Either way, we will be back. read more

Like it a lot! Had vegetable and shrimp dumplings to start. Very tasty and good quality. My wife and I each had the spicy beef noodle soup. Broth had excellent flavor and the beef chunks were super tender. My wife had a cold rose tea which was refreshing with a touch of sweetness which complimented the spicy soup. I think there is great potential. The ambiance it very Asian and inviting. The steam makes it a little hot, maybe can work on that. STEAMED is a great new addition to downtown Madison. They offer a great variety of steamed dumplings and wonderful soups. Of specific note are the Pork Soup dumplings and Spicy Beef Soup (huge portion w/tons of noodles). Having traveled in Asia pretty frequently I'd say STEAMED could compete with any of the famous dim sum / dumpling houses in Shanghai, Singapore, etc. Restaurant is very pleasant and the people are wonderful. Happy to find this gem within walking distance of the Madison green. The restaurant was beautiful inside, but we chose to sit outside at these beautiful wooden tables. I love dim sum and was hoping that there would be vegetarian/pescatarian options and there were. I had wonderful bok choy, edamame and smoked tofu and some amazing har gow. Went there last night for a fun birthday dinner, and owner Hu Ping graciously started us off with a delicious complementary salad of edamame, smoked tofu, and a bit of greens in a light dressing. Unusual and tasty. We ordered a host of different dumplings, following house suggestions, and were very happy with the selections. The pork soup dumplings were savory, the shrimp dumplings were full of large shrimp, and the shitake rice dumplings were filled with flavor. Couldn't get enough of the pork rib noodle soup and loved how perfectly chewy the noodles were. Finished every drop. The dumpling wrappers are just the right thickness, and the owner is committed to healthy offerings. We ate so many dumplings, I didn't have room for the sweet sticky rice ball for dessert or the coconut ball, which I will try next time. The decor is beautiful, with antique chairs and a comfortable Asian interior, plus an artistic patio with a warming fire pole and tables made of tree cross-sections. I LOVE dumplings and had high hopes. I went for lunch and there was only one other customer. I ordered the pork soup dumplings since that seems to be the crowd favorite. Considering I was the only order -the wait was a little excessive. The dumplings came out and were dried out on top. The price 8 dollars for maybe 6 was high. There was barely any acknowledgement of me-so I'm not sure when the hospitable greeting happens. Not impressed-won't be back. read more

Came here for lunch. Food was ok - just average. Everything was a little bit dry tasting even though it was steamed. I have never had soup dumplings before but what I had here was delicious! I got mine to go and they were still awesome at home:) Unfortunately I also got a steam bun which I have had elsewhere and I was disappointed. There was very little meat inside and it was pretty bland in my opinion (I tend to like a lot of spice and flavor in my food). It was also pretty pricey but there is not much else like Steamed in the area. Overall, I would go back but I am not getting a steam bun again unless there is a major change. read more

Visited Steamed for the first time today and was really impressed. We tried 4 different types of dumplings and they were all really good (the pork soup dumplings were my fave for sure). The restaurant was clean, the outdoor seating area was really nice, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The pork rib soup is delicious! I probably would've enjoyed the dumplings way more had I not gotten the soup, because they were completely overshadowed. The service was friendly and prompt, the atmosphere was relaxing and perfect for their menu, and downtown Madison definitely needed something different. They had a cute outdoor patio, too! Discovered Steamed by accident. The atmosphere was clean, service was good, and food was delicious. Really enjoyed their dumplings, and selection of sauces to spice them up a bit for the more adventurous. Was excited to see a new casual restaurant in Madison, but disappointed at the result. We are New Yorkers, weekenders in Madison, so pretty fussy about our Chinese food. This does not make it. Atmosphere is lovely, but service is extremely slow and dumplings are uneven. Spicy cold noodles, only occasionally available, are very good. Shrimp dumplings very good The rest, not. As I know these folks know their way around quality Chinese food, I was looking forward to trying it. First of all, it's a very pleasant place, with comfortable seating and a lovely atmosphere. There's a pretty patio out back, but it was too hot to sit there, However, the air conditioning problem someone had mentioned has been resolved, and it was very comfortable inside. I went for the combination platter with 2 each of 5 different dumplings. At $14, I thought it was very fairly priced. All were just great, although some were outstanding, like the shrimp ones and the sticky rice shu Mai. A nice break from the ordinary! I'll be back! read more

We were excited to try out the new business in town. Was told after I ordered that it is a "soft" opening and they only accept cash. They have been open now for several weeks...what gives? Ordered pork steamed dumplings and a steamed pork bun. Nice kid came over as I waited and told me it would be ten minutes. Now all they sell are steamed dumplings. Ten minutes? Most Chinese restaurants complete entire orders in ten minutes never mind 6 steamed pork dumplings. Dumplings were good. Nothing to separate themselves apart from Jai Mei or anywhere else. My daughter and I stopped in today because she's a huge fan of the other restaurant, "Taste of China" and she loves dumplings.....she liked the ones at Steamed so much she took extra home with her. Great place, I especially recommend the pork soup dumplings and cold sesame noodles! read more

Really nice setting, great location. They don't take cards so we had to leave to get cash, which was inconvenient. Would have been nice if they had some music playing, it was dead silent in there as we was only us and another couple. Menu is very small. Dumplings were interesting and authentic. Be forewarned that they only serve water, bubble tea and Snapple bottles. No soda options, and no wine/beer/liquor. I recommend as more of a lunch option and not a dinner date. We were done with dinner in less than 45 minutes as there isn't really appetizer or dessert options, and no drinks or music. read more

What a pretty and yummy place! Fresh food and lovely, Zen-like atmosphere. The pumpkin dumplings were tender, tasty, and a fun seasonal surprise, and the pork-rib noodle soup was savory and comforting on a chilly autumn night. It's great to have another yummy ethnic restaurant in Madison. I can't wait to go back and try out their Bubble Tea. Nice to not have to drive all the way to Manhattan's China Town to enjoy these treats. Yay! read more
