A couple of friends and I came here on a Saturday afternoon with a reservation. Steaking is located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, so definitely plan extra time for parking. The food was pretty tasty, but it's not quite as the iron steak we'd get in Taiwan. The flavor just tastes different, and so is the corn soup. The service was pretty decent though, as the food came relatively fast after we've placed the order.

    Ribeye and popcorn chicken

Tried Steaking in Fremont recently and overall had a good experience. The ribeye (med rare) was a good size and cooked well; the mushroom + black pepper sauce combo worked nicely. I found the sauce to be pretty dam tasty, get it on the side and use it as a dip. The noodles on the side were pretty bland, nothing memorable. I did like how it came with a fried egg, corn, and broccoli. It also came with a salad which was like 2 bites and a piece of garlic bread. Priced around $27 for the meal which I found fair considering how much you're getting. Popcorn chicken was a standout and winner in my book. Crispy, juicy, and well seasoned. You can add additional salt/pepper and chili powder yourself, it's located next to the drinks. The beef hot pot unfortunately was a miss. It lacked flavor and there wasn't much in it for the price. A hot pot dipping sauce would have helped; I either missed it or they didn't have any. Stick to Tasty Pot/Boiling Point if you're craving hot pot and just order the sizzling hot plates here until they improve it. I did like that they offer free green and black tea and the self-serve setup is actually something I prefer. Service was decent, nothing amazing but no complaints either. Overall, a solid spot if you're in the area, but probably not somewhere I'd go out of my way for unless you're craving a sizzling plate with black pepper/mushroom sauce. I do appreciate the owner's effort to connect with the community and continuously improve the restaurant. I would come back and I wish them the best of luck!

This place hits the spot when you're craving Taiwanese style steak. I've gotten the new york and the boneless short rib sizzling plate and enjoyed both; it really just comes down to your preferred cut. They were accurate with the cook times and it came out a true medium rare. The meat doesn't sit directly on the sizzling plate so it doesn't cook much more. I suggest getting the mushroom and black pepper sauces combo on the side for more sauce. As part of your meal, there is also unlimited tea, soup, and garlic bread. You can get extra noodles without any surcharge. I also got the puff pastry soup and this will likely be a one time order. While the pastry is nice, the soup is essentially the free corn soup with 2 pieces of shrimp and a piece of imitation crab added. They also have teppanyaki, hot pot, and bento options, but I've not tried.

My husband has been on a pepper sauce hunt for a while and has been tying to the find the best ones in our area. This one popped up as a potential so decided to check it out. They do have a big selection of different steaks, chicken, pork, and seafood. That works out for those that don't eat meat or has to eat seafood because of lent. We opted to share a Ribeye Steak which is advertised for $27.49. That's ok considering it comes with: -a drink (either black sweetened tea, or green unsweetened tea) which you get yourself -salad (this was really really tiny) -garlic bread (this was a smidge of garlic butter on a toasted white bread) -soup of the day (THIS WAS MISSING, WE HAD NO SOUP) fail... The hot plate came out hot, sizzling ribeye on top of the spaghetti, with one egg, some broccoli and some baby corn. We poured the pepper sauce on top of the plate and watched it cook. The taste of the sauce went well with steak which was pretty tender. We also ordered the Taiwanese spicy hot pot (medium spicy) which was $22.99, so I can try it. But dammmmm it was so spicy! I couldn't eat it. My husband didn't like it either. He said there wasn't enough toppings for the price he paid and the spice was slight overkill. The prices seem higher than other places that serve these dishes. I suspect location and rent is higher so therefore prices of the dishes are also higher. Service was not good either. No one checked on us after they served us which is why they probably forgot our soup.

I've came to Steaking a few more times after my first review. I don't know what has changed, but the experiences after the first visit has just gone downhill. Service wasn't great, staff were not really friendly or welcoming. One of the times the steaks that were ordered to be medium were pretty much raw - like difficult to cut raw. One other time the cut of the boneless short rib has a big part of fat on it. Also, the upgraded soup with puff pastry had extra shrimp & imitation crab inside, which was nice, but somehow the soup tasted a bit sour. They posted on their Instagram 3 days ago that they're officially starting this special event when you check out - if you participate in tossing the crescent shape wooden blocks and get a "holy cap", you can get different items/discount. However, when we asked the staff, they said "oh we are not doing that". Okay. I want to support local businesses, especially a Taiwanese owned business, but for the price & service...I will unfortunately hesitate to return in the future.

We came here for the Wednesday BOGO free teppanyaki and tried a few extra items as it was our first time. The teppanyaki here is solid, my favorite one being the duck breast one. So juicy and the mushroom sauce was flavorful. I will say it was in the expensive side. Even the king oyster mushroom teppanyaki was flavorful. However, the taiwanese spicy pot I got was wayyy too salty. I almost couldn't finish because of how salty it was. Weekday lunch they also have all you can drink soup and tea. The service was very friendly and fast, especially considering they were packed! Place itself is casual and a bit tight, but nothing terrible.

The popcorn chicken here is really good, so I'm giving them an extra star just for that. Perfect texture and seasoned just right! Loved the crispy basil too. I'd come back just for the popcorn chicken haha Steaking is definitely known for their steak skillets with pasta, sauces, and veggies. I ordered the ribeye, which was HUGE! Pretty good quality in terms of marbling and fattiness. The mushroom sauce was an interesting addition, not so much umami - but definitely sweet with tomato vibes. The baby corn and broccoli was fine, but the pasta was reminding me of Jollibee at one point... but overall an amusing and unique approach to a ribeye steak! Casual and fun! We also tried out their hot pot options, and we went for the Taiwanese Spicy Soup. The broth was very flavorful and the portions were okay. Lamb was thinly sliced and fatty. Lots of veggies and tofu varieties. Overall... this was decent, but not a must try!

Steaking has been on my radar for some time. In this economy, who doesn't love a good steak at a reasonable price. They have a good selection of cuts all served with veggies, spaghetti, an egg and smothered in one of 3 kinds of gravy. My husband got the rib eye and I opted for the boneless short rib. I always order my steak medium because restaurants tend to overcook everything, but not at Steaking. My steak was actually served medium rare. I didn't mind. Better to be undercooked than overcooked, dry and chewy. I only wish they also had horseradish. Our steaks were good albeit not the best quality of cut. There was more grizzle and fat than we like but it was decent. The spaghetti was on the sweet side and the egg was overcooked. I did not try their complimentary corn chowder because it looked like it was made with diary, and the salad was underwhelming.

    Jessica S.

We ordered the lamb steak and ribeye. My lamb and black pepper sauce were bland. The complimentary corn and carrot soup was also bland. The complimentary garlic toast lacked a garlic flavor. The thousand island salad was nice with cranberries added in as favor and texture. The only good thing were the complimentary teas. The unsweetened oolong was strong. The sweeten black tea was refreshing. Service was good on a Wednesday night.

Wow this place is really good! No wonder it was super packed with ppl coming in and off the waitlist. For $23.99 you get a HUGE New York steak with noodles, veggies, and egg. I wasn't expecting the portion to be so HUGE!! Definitely had to bring home leftovers after. I also love how they give complimentary garlic bread. It went so well with the soup, the mushroom sauce with steak, and the sauce bar. Highly recommend if you're into sizzling plate style food, steak, or just want a full meal for a reasonable price!

They seem to be known for their steaks. But we wanted hotpot. We walked in around Friday 5:30pm. It was not busy at all. It was only half full all the way up until we left. We ordered the Taiwanese Spicy and Bone broth. Broths weren't salty so that was good. But the bone broth could use some spicy or more flavor. It was a bit plain. Taiwanese spicy didn't have a spicy kick. It's more mild. Felt like the hotpot was a bit smaller compared to boiling pot or tasty pot. We got the beef and lamb meats for the hotpot. You also get to choose rice or vermicelli. They give a lot of vermicelli noodles. The lamb was a bit more tender than the beef. They have a complimentary tea (green or black), sauce, and creamy corn soup station. The corn soup was yummy. You can order with the staff or with the QR code. Fast service. Casual place. Should probably try their steak next time if we are craving meat.

The restaurant's name intrigued me and we wanted to try Steaking. For the two of us, we decided to try their mini hotpot and a sizzling plate. There are many options, but we decided to splurge and ordered the Japanese Miso mini hotpot with lamb, as well as the sizzling ribeye steak plate (10 oz). We actually wanted to get the 8 oz, but right at opening, they appeared to only have the 10 oz available. While we waited for our food, we helped ourselves to the unlimited corn soup and hotpot sauce bar! It was unclear to us if the various drinks on the side were also free and/or unlimited, so we ended up not trying these. The corn soup was nothing out of the ordinary, but its a nice feeling to know that it is "unlimited." After about 10 minutes, our food came out. We asked for our steak sizzling plate to have the sauce on the side, but in hindsight, I think it would have been better to leave it on, as the plate is still hot. I didn't realize but the sizzling plate's noodles, egg, and steak are primarily carried by the flavors of the sauce. The steak was cooked medium rare (as requested) but it felt like they have just added some salt and expected flavor to just spawn from the tomato/mushroom sauce on top. I wasn't a big fan of the plating either, since they basically plop a whole steak on the sizzling plate which made it pretty challenging to cut, with noodles served beneath it. It just didn't feel very thought out! The hotpot was pretty decent though. It was pretty standard for most personal hotpot portion sizes with everything being pretty customizable. The amount of food was sufficient for two, no more, no less was needed. With all thats said, I was pleased by the cleanliness of the restrooms!

My husband loves a good steak at good value. As soon as his dish arrived, I could tell why he wanted to come back. It came on a sizzling plate, initially quite rare but slowly cooks to the perfect medium rare over time along with the sunny side egg that also cooks over the course of the meal for a perfect runny additional to the steak. I was expecting an overcooked steak - boy was I wrong. My Taiwanese hot pot broth was super flavorful. It was loaded with veggies and other goodies (like fish balls, bean curd, quail eggs, tofu)! I chose the lamb which was just a bit tough, but I think I just left it in the hot broth for too long. I had to ask them to come turn the flame off, since it was getting too hot to even eat my soup. Thankfully they were very attentive and helpful throughout the meal. The meal also came with free corn soup and tea! Not that I had enough stomach space to enjoy too much of it. But definitely nice to have!

They have Happy hour lunch specials M-F with 15% off of your meal. My husband got the New York Steak combo ($21.99) and I got the filet mignon combo ($19.99) both medium rare with spaghetti noodles and pepper sauce. We asked for sauce on the side. We were served first with a side salad, really creamy corn soup, and garlic bread (similar to Texas toast). Our plates came out sizzling and had an egg, baby corn, and broccoli on it. My husband really liked the sauce, and they gave us a refill of the sauce which we used to dunk our meat in. The New York was ok, I think he said he would have preferred the ribeye better (from his last time eating there) vs. this. The New York is also more expensive than the ribeye by $4. He said the fat on it was really chewy and didn't taste great. My filet mignon was really tender, and I enjoyed it and it was cooked medium rare. The only thing that bothered me was it was pretty hot in here like the AC wasn't on. We were also the only customers here on a Friday at 1pm eating. But I mean we were eating some really hot sizzling food so it could have just been me. But we did score and get a very mini mini container of ice-cream which gave me some relief to cool down. They gave us a coupon to come back for $5 off $30 or more or $10 off $60 or more (so amazing)! I would definitely come back to try some of the other combo options.

If you go without noodles you get an extra egg, they lose one star for not getting the medium rare right. I asked medium rare and it came out well done. Better luck next time I hope. Note that for some reason New York is more expensive than rib eye. Definitely get the rib eye. I think they're running a special weekday 15% off for lunch. Definitely will come back and order a "rare" next time to see if I can get it no more than medium.

LENT 2026: GOOD FRIDAY LUNCH…read more The first time I ate at Toro Sushi Stone Grill & Bar was the last Saturday of February for my mom's birthday. We had a private room for the party. Out of food that was served I really enjoyed eating the sashimi, which was presented on a platter. I also liked grilled salmon. During Lent I wanted to come back to Toro for lunch. I thought about getting sashimi or grilled salmon when I came back. A couple days before coming to Toro for Good Friday lunch I looked at the menu online. Why pay for the dishes I ate before? One of the dishes that intrigued me was the baked unagi fried rice. However the baked salmon fried rice sounded enticing. Also one of the appetizers sounded interesting was the sashimi pizza. My plan was to order an appetizer and an entree for Good Friday lunch. On Friday when I got a table I looked at the menu. The lunch special listed unagi don. Then I started thinking to myself. Why do I have to eat only fish on Fridays during Lent? Vegetables are permitted during Lent Fridays. I looked at the salad menu and one item intrigued me was the avocado salad. Instead of getting a sashimi pizza for an appetizer I choose avocado salad. Knowing a salad would not be filling I ordered the crispy salmon skin roll. For entree I ordered the unagi don. I'll start with the crispy salmon. A lot of people don't like to eat crispy skin of a fish. I love it. The crispy salmon skin roll is a filling roll due to the sauce, which adds flavor to the rice. Instead of a roll I would like to see crispy skin salmon as an appetizer as it would be similar to a chicharron. Regarding the avocado salad I liked how avocado wasn't skimpy in portion. There's one thing I don't like in salad and that is water. I understand cleaning the lettuce to get rid of the dirt, but the lettuce better be dry instead of water dripping at the bottom on the bowl. I came here for the unagi don. I felt I made a right decision of ordering the unagi don instead of the baked unagi fried rice. With the steamed rice I could taste the eel whereas the fried rice would've overpowered the eel. The unagi don was a filling dish and I believe if I ordered a baked unagi fried rice I would have felt bloated. On this last Friday during Lent I enjoyed my lunch at Toro Sushi Stone Grill and Bar. I liked the sashimi that was served for my mom's birthday party than what I ordered during Good Friday. I can see myself coming here again. Maybe next time I try the stone grill items.
