First off, I don't have super high expectations for fast food. After all, it's fast..food. What I do have high expectations for is customer service. My weekday drive thru experience ordering a number 29 (triple steakburger with fries) with everything on it minus tomato was about average. The over-all wait time in line from end to end wasn't too bad for the time of day (noon-ish). The person taking the order at the speaker was pleasant and easily understood. They repeated my order correctly and provided me with my total. Once I got to the window, I was presented with a card reader in which to insert my debit card myself (due to covid) and then promptly handed my bag containing my order. The reader with my card inserted was removed from my view and then presented back to me after a couple of seconds. (I didn't really care for this) I retrieved my card and the window closed. I expected to be handed my receipt. After a short wait, the individual in which I had just interacted with attempted to hand me another order. I asked for my receipt mainly to ensure I was properly charged. The individual seemed puzzled, but was able to get my receipt. The steakburger was deliciously messy (although not without tomato as I had ordered...) and could have used a little salt/pepper love. The fries were perfectly salted and tasted good. My only regret was not getting a shake while I was there...but that gives me a reason to come back later. read more

I have been going to Steak & Shake since I was a little one. Let's just say that was a long time ago. Back then it was such a treat to hop up on a stool, watch the steak burgers being made, and oogle at the Steak & Shake model semi-truck that sat in the window. How I wanted that. I am sad to see many Steak & Shakes closing in our area. My kids and I still like to visit - We love the food here. Thankfully, there are still a few that are close to me. One of the best things is price. They continue to have a $4 value menu which is an incredible deal. Last night, we stopped at the Lake St. Louis location. We pulled up to the drive-through and were greeted with a friendly voice asking what they could make fresh for us. She was so very friendly. When I arrived at the pickup window, the employees had smiles on their faces and were working hard. We felt welcome there. As we drove past the windows, you could see that the store was spotless and well-organized. The food was hot, fresh, and tasted wonderful. This location should be a model for others. If that were the case, I have no doubt that Steak & Shake will once again dominate this segment of the industry. Thanks so much for the great service! Keep smiling! read more

We went here in memory of my mom We had her favorite meal in honor of her 90th birthday. We had THE BEST possible experience. Every staff member was friendly and helpful as we'd not ordered by kiosk before. The place was immaculate, and we easily navigated to a table by the order pickup counter. The milkshake came up first, and was a vision of memories with my mom. The burgers and fries were so good I almost cried. The whole thing was super delicious. Steak n Shake is normally a pretty solid restaurant. This is the worst ran restaurant I've ever seen. 15 minute wait time to be seated, because the hostess was playing around with a co worker. Food was even worse than the service! Sat down, kid ordered a hamburger and it came out slathered in mustard (including the whole top of the bun). The burger I had was disgusting and tasted like it was cooked two days prior. My other son ordered a hamburger and said it was edible if you don't think about it and just chew. Service was terrible but it's remarkable how awful their food is and I love steak and shake. Wish I could give it -5 on a rating scale. Doesn't even deserve a 0. read more

This place is the worst place I've ever eaten. They're service is the worst I've ever had and I'm waiting over 30 mins to get my food when I FINALLY get my food the order is completely wrong or they put something on my food I specifically asked NOT for. Getting a shake takes 10 mins and getting a simple water takes almost even longer. They forget my silverware, I had to wait 15 mins just to get a refill. I had to walk up and ask them to fill up my water. Im also waiting at the cash register for far to long to pay for the terrible service I had. This use to be my favorite restaurant because they really do have good food but everyone needs to be fired or at least trained correctly. #1 shake on Yelp. True, once I finally get it after 10 mins. I have been to this particular restaurant 4-5 times within a year. I don't know if the mgr has changed or what, but the last two times I have gone through the drive through, when I was given my food, it wasn't even warm to the touch. The first time, I thought maybe it was because I drove a half a mile back to my home. Yesterday, the food was not warm again. I got out of my car and took my luke warm burger and cold fries back inside. They told me a mgr would come speak to me. She never came. Several minutes later, as I sat at the counter watching their burger cook make burgers, the girl gave me a bag with my food in it. I walked to the car, felt the French fries and they were the exact same fries - no warmer....cold. The burger was the same, except it appeared they microwaved it to make it warm. It certainly was NOT new, fresh, warm food. So beware! I would travel down highway 100 and hit Burger King, Lion's Choice or Arby's before I ever go to Steak N Shake in Washington, MO. Horrible Management. Had hot dog and tea ordered to go. Waited 20 minutes and only my tea was ready sitting by the cash register. They hadn't even started on my hotdog.
