Made us wait for over an hour and a half door to door (and we eat fast). Waitresses slamming plates down behind my pregnant wife complaining about the kitchen making her orders wrong, then cursing people out, they get our food wrong, try to get shakes to go and wait forever for the wrong sizes then they're mad at us. I complained to corporate because the manager was clearly useless. Corporate says they forwarded it to the regional manager, who hasn't called me back. I'm filing complaints with the AG and BBB and corporate again now. Typical attitude problem with the staff. Piss poor effort by the entire staff. We were the only 4 people in the restaurant and it took 45+ mins for our food(not including shakes). Shakes took another 15 mins after our server checked on us for our FIRST time after getting and finishing our food. Went to check out, one person was split off of the bill, went to split the remainder of the people off of the bill, wasn't able to happen. Worst restaurant experience of my life. We just left after waiting almost an hour. We got seated and no one came to the table. After other tables were seated after us and waited on, I went to ask the manager to send someone over to us. She finally came and took our order and then brought drinks and after 45 more minutes without bringing our cottage cheese orders or food, we left. I hope this was just an off night. Normally Steak n Shake is constant / predictable. Not so tonight at this location. First time visitor. Where to start - 4 for $4 signs posted but not available because they were out of too many of the items. Ok, let's start with a milkshake. . .arrives in a styrofoam cup. What happen to the glassware? Alright let's move to a side of chili. Looked like 7 bean soup - watered down with seriously about 7 beans. Canned would have been better. For a 24-hour stop with the staff of three the waitress was interesting the service was fast the cook forgot salt and vinegar fries and he forgot my tomato onion and pickle. However he did make my husband's meal perfect cuz he ordered it plain. All and all for the price not bad. read more

I visited the drive thru for my experience. I ordered a #1 (double cheeseburger, fries, and a Coke.) the bad: I had to repeat my order twice. The attendant said, "repeat your order" no asking, no please, no thank you. The fries were cold, greasy, and unseasoned. The drive thru attendant had a horrible attitude, complete with classic teenage "eye rolling" There were no napkins in the bag I had no chance to ask for ketchup or salt. The food was thrust at me, the window slammed with a scoff and eye roll. The good: My burger was fresh, hot, and delicious. I ordered it without onion, mayo, and extra pickles. The grill was on their A game and did an awesome job. I felt as if I were inconveniencing the attendant by being hungry and wanting Steak N Shake. It'll be awhile before I choose this location again. Waited 55 minutes for two shakes yesterday. Kid waiters standing around talking. Our bill had to be corrected 3 times. We ordered an Oreo ice cream sandwich and our server came back and said "I can't find the box of Oreo sandwiches. Do you want something else?" When we paid the girl asked "how was everything?" I said " not good at all." She replied "oh, ok here's your change." (Which was also the incorrect amount.) Poor poor management and sad unmotivated staff. Never ever again will we go back! read more

Tonight I visited this restaurant with my mother and sister. When we walked in, we were not greeted, the manager avoided eye contact, and we waited to be seated. After an additional group of about 5-6 people walked in a blonde waitress walked half way over and loudly asked them how many. My mother raised her hand and got the girls attention stating, "three". She looked taken aback and my mother explained that we had been waiting and they had just walked in. The girl looked perturbed and rudely said, "are you waiting to be seated?". To which my mother replied "yes, should I go back over and stand and wait?". The girl didn't respond. My mother stood by her as she grabbed menus and walked us to to a table, quickly wiped it down, and dropped the menus rudely on the wet table. At that last bit of attitude, my mother stood back up, and I, who had yet to sit down, followed her out the door. Someone had said something as we were walking out, it however, was not stopping us. Once we were outside, I glanced back in to see the girl standing, talking to two or three other girls. I have been here a few times before and it isn't usually like this, however with this experience, I will not be returning to this location. read more

I gave the Steak n Shake here in Newark another try and it was the third strike. We went on one occasion and sat in a booth for half an hour and were not served so we left, we tried another time and went to the counter and placed an order the order never made it to the people in the back. Today we went back to try the restaurant again and we were seat and the waitress took our order right away, but then when the food came up and was sitting at the kitchen window the waitress went to get it and the person in the back told her not to take the order out and had her take another order out, this went on for 15 mins while our food sat there (my husband could see them and was watching) by the time we got our food it was cold and the whipped cream on the milk shake had melted down into the shake. We came to your restaurant at 9:30 pm on Thursday March 31,2016. We were seated promptly right next to the wall area where I assume the soft drinks and milkshakes are made. There were a half dozen young employees standing around BS'ing and goofing off. One girl (slightly overweight and blonde) was very loud when somehow was talking. They were all talking about snapchat and Facebook, etc. There were two other boys there hanging out (off the clock or very good friends with the employees) whom the girl employees seemed to admire. This place is getting to be a teen hangout. They were so loud my fiancé and I could not hear each other talk. The floor below the service window was filthy. I took a picture of one employee picking up a container of crackers he bumped into and dumped all over the floor. There were napkins and straw wrappers down in the creases of the seats. My feeling is that they should have used some of their energy cleaning that place instead of hanging around talking and having social hour. Mind you, there were four tables of customers (not busy at all). When this store opened up it was clean and had a good rep. It is losing the good rep steadily. Appears to me that the youth of today only show up to their job for a paycheck and nothing else. I am sure if the Health Department came in the place would be shut down. This is my view for the 20 minutes we were there. Wonder what other customers think. Someone really needs to clean this place up. read more
