Walking in were greeted with a smile and a delicious aroma! We enjoyed some killer milkshakes while dining in and Jay walked our delicious burgers over to our table! He was an Amazing guy and we greatly appreciate the food and hospitality! read more

The burgers are great! I'm not sure if beef tallow on the fries is just following the current trend or has always been done by steak 'n Shake, but the fries were OK. The shakes were, of course, excellent. Service was great as well. We ordered from the kiosk, but they broug read more

Dirty tables, QR codes to access the sodas, wafer thin burgers that were falling apart and chewy, unmelted cheese, questionable lettuce...Staff talking about taking a bathroom break - then taking out trash this was the woman who served up the food... sanitary issues started unfolding in my mind. This place has gone way downhill and really should return to higher standards of food prep, portions & definitely cleanliness. read more

This Steak 'n Shake is our go to stop for a bite on road trips to St. Louis. It is very easy to get to exiting from 64. There currently is some construction & the road is gravel down to a single lane. We saved a flyer of coupons that came in the mail... always saving money! My go to meal is a steak burger & fries. The burgers at Steak 'n Shake always have great flavor. I love the skinny shoe string fries. Our food came out so fast both times we visited this weekend. My fiancé always gets a chocolate milkshake. He always lets me steal a couple bites & it doesn't disappoint. The restaurant & bathroom was clean. The servers & kitchen staff were working great as a team. The service was top notch Friday afternoon & Sunday morning. Thank you to Joey & JoJo for the great service on our stops in this weekend. Look forward to stopping again on our next trip thru! read more

Good chocolate shake, no whip with a couple of cherries. The burger with mustard relish was fresh. The fries were okay. Food here is much better than the Steak n Shake I visited outside of Little Rock yesterday. read more

Steak ’n Shake - Fast Food Near Me - Mt. Vernon, Illinois

Horrible service, horrible food. If you are hungry and are craving a good Steak & Shake, Do Not stop in Mt Vernon, IL. I read the other reviews after my visit and wish I had read them before we stopped. read more

On the way home from a conference, pull up to the drive thru at 7 pm on. During operating hours. Myself and 2 cars in front of me, no one else in the drive thru. The first car is sitting at the menu waiting to order, 10 minutes passes and nothing. I pull around and see 4 "employees" standing around taking. The previous reviews are correct, DO NOT waste your time, these workers don't care in the slightest that they are at work on shift with customers waiting. The parking lot is atrocious and has potholes that will genuinely harm your vehicle. After seeing this location is locally owned and operated this tells me a few things. 1 they do not care to maintain nor manage the quality of this location 2 this location is a blemish to the brand and should be investigated 3 the staff is innetentive and oblivious to what it takes to stay in business. They are clearly collecting a check and leaving for the day with no passion or personal pride in their work. I'll say it once more, no one should visit this location, it should be closed and only re opened after major changes. Yeah sure it's a burger? But I'm hungry, choose this place of business and was disappointed to the highest level. read more

This location is dingy & had a dirty smell to it, NOT open 24/7 like others so I don't understand why they can't deep clean the place. I didn't care cuz it was 8am & was craving a burger since I work overnight. Your typical SnS menu which features shakes so I went with the Butterfinger bits shake. It was so delicious by the way..could very well be the best shake I've ever had, no lie. The parking lot is small but there is a truck lot across the street next to the hotel. I don't think I'll be back to this location but if you come, know what to expect. read more

Stopped here for a shake while on a road trip. It was 8:30 on a weekday night and while the guy working the fryer was friendly and helpful by taking our order and waiting on us, I'd have to say our shakes were not up to standards. I'd give the shakes a two, but bumped it up a star due to the guy who took care of us. read more

Showed up 45 mins before closing. Door was locked, no one was inside and nobody answered the phone. Walked around the corner just to see the employees sitting in their car, smoking pot. Completely unacceptable and embarrassing... read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I was inside waiting on a carry out order and i could hear the employees talk about not caring if people leave and go somewhere else. They were telling drive through customers it would be 15 minutes before they could order even though there was noone other than me inside. They all hoped everyone would just go somewhere else. read more

I've eaten here twice in a year, and this time was awful. The food was fine, but the shakes sat around too long before they served them and were runny. It didn't help that service was slow and delivering our food took a bewilderingly long time. read more

Very disappointed. I emailed corporate two weeks ago and have not heard anything. I don't expect to hear back on this either. I did a car hop order at 2:38. It said it would be out to me in about 10 minutes. By 2:58 it still wasn't out to me. There were a couple cars that went through the drive through after me that got their orders quickly. When I went inside to see what was going on (which totally defeated the purpose of a Car Hop order) I found that my food was just sitting there. The girl said "do we have a car hop order and the guy working the drive through said yeah, I think we're out of Coke Zero though". I got my food and it was cold. I'm sure it sat there for several minutes. This was always my favorite fast food place as a kid but it's not fast anymore and the service left a lot to be desired read more

SHAKES ARE AWESOME ! ! ! ! You want a great burger/fries that come with a great price...stop at one of these. Nothing more I can say about these awesome places. When we do road trips or find us on the east side of the nation, we make a point to stop. We mostly stop for the shakes. read more

It's Steak 'n Shake. Never amazing, but sometimes you crave it. I was driving from Nashville to St. Louis recently and stopped in Mt. Vernon for the night. Steak 'n Shake was dinner, because it was very near the hotel I stayed at. It was fine. A burger and some onion rings in a hotel bed in front of TV? Not a bad night! read more

Service was a bit slow. It was very cheap price-wise, and good quality for the cost. It was like $4 for a burger, fries, and a small shake!! A great place to go if you need a cheap meal! But on the menu it showed a huge cherry on top of the shake, but we got the shake and the cherry was tiny! False advertising! read more

Waited 15 minutes for 2 MILKSHAKES. went inside and manager on duty wasn't wearing a uniform.

Deffently not open 24hrs. Turn ur lights off and dont put a sign on the board saying open at 7 for 2 weeks now

Will never go back again. Poor management. Workers we're standing around while there we're customers waiting to pay and get seated. Went inside by counter to order and young cook was apologizing to everybody and us because we weren't getting waited on and I said it's not your fault your doing your job. Finally got our order in and had food in no time except shake waited another 10 minutes while they we're making everybody else's. Told them no toppings numerous times and it came out with toppings. I was so p#$@&d. Will never go back. read more

An amazing Steak 'n Shake. We were greeted by Christy Upon Arrival. Her Warm Smile and Hardy Attitude may have been enough to cook the burgers on their own. We ordered the Frisco Melt And Double Cheeseburger Meals. I got the chocolate Shake. I'd say it was one of the better steak and shakes locations. For example, my home town S n'S tends to think hair is a condiment. Surely, I'd boil my hands walking out of any steak and shake restroom but Christy's steak and shake was clean. Kudos to an amazing staff and an even better frisco Melt. You have a friend in me. read more

I was really feeling a garlic burger from steak n shake today. So I pull up to the drive thru speaker and I'm greeted with "it's gonna be over a 5 min wait" I reply with "okay that's fine" it's always over a 5 min wait any time I go there even though 90 percent of the time it's dead. So I wait and wait and wait no one ever comes back on to take my order so I just drove away (no garlic burger) read more

This place was no bueno. Took so long and my fam was over it and just wanted to leave. We wanted to "shake" our bootys right out of there. Speaking of shakes, ours took forever to come out! read more

Doug, our server today, was great!! He was friendly and attentive. When my burger came out with cheese, he immediately went back to the kitchen to get the correct order...a cheeseless burger for me. He quickly delivered it with a fresh plate of fries. There were some cleanliness problems; we have to move over a table after being seated for a clean table. When we arrived off the interstate after driving for 6 hours, we noticed the parking lot was full and nearly drove off to another place. However, I noticed the drive-thru wasn't that busy and figured there were some non-customer parking issues. Sure enough, there were open tables. As I waited nearly 5 minutes at an empty register to pay, I thought I may mention the perception to the manager that finally took my money. She had a nasty comment about maybe people all drove separately and that's why the parking lot was full. Guess the point was lost that an overly full parking lot gives some people the impression there may be a wait. :( Doug...you made our day with your great service! read more

Good place to eat and the service was very good considering the place was slammed! How they do it I have no clue, but they did well. I will eat here again read more

Steak ’n Shake - So good! - Fast Food Near Me - Mt. Vernon, Illinois

Living in Mt. Vernon my entire life has brought me to this establishment many times. Tonight was the final time. I'm giving two stars ONLY because the food is good. I just can't get over how nasty this place is. The bathrooms were nasty and the entire place is dusty. The last straw was the woman who brought my food out had her finger in my burger. Thanks for the memories but I'm out. read more

Always a long line at the window... why? Because the service is not good. It seems like we are inconveniencing the drive thru employee when they come on the speaker to take our order. Each time is literally "one moment" or "ill be with you shortly" never a "hello one moment please" or "im sorry for the delay". Then we are stuck in the drive thru for shakes for 20 minutes. Unacceptable. read more

Horrible service especially at 6 pm. Waited for 40 mins, no food and waitress never came back to check on us or to fill our water. We only ordered 2 triple steaks. People who arrived after us got theirs in about 10 mins and their orders were huge. Very disappointed. read more

Disappointing that the crew working can't say hello and are cursing at each other with customers in the lobby. It's also disappointing when they look at you when you walk in as a nuisance . A serious LACK of leadership at this restaurant. read more

The food is good. They have a tendency of running out of things. Some of the servers are good and some are just plain rude. It seems pretty clean the restroom are usually decent. read more

We love this chain, yet on the road the quality can vary tremendously. Today a stop for breakfast was a winner. The sweet lady (Kimberly) was the best server. Friendly and efficient she gave us fast service. The food was plentiful and hot! The management should be proud of this store's staff. Especially KIM!! read more

Worst experience ever! Drive thru took forever. My order was completely wrong and since the dine in area was closed (due to covid) I had to sit through it again just to try and get my correct items. By the time I made it back to the window, I asked for a refund as I didn't even want to try it again. Our shakes had melted and we weren't even given straws for them. They were also handed to us with ice cream all down the sides- no napkins or anything with them. I was told they couldn't refund me and that I needed to contact corporate. No info was given for me to do such. I left a review as my receipt listed so we will see if I hear from anyone. read more

Most disgusting restaurant i have ever been in . My daughter ordered chicken strips and when they k to the table they had hair from the cooks beard on them. Then when the order was remade apparently the same person cooked again and this time the hair was in her side of barbecue sauce. Has this restaurant never heard of making employees were facial hair nets ? The overall appearance of this location was dirty from the floors to bathrooms . Apparently cleanliness is not a priority of management or the health department for this restaurant. All the manager could say was that the hair must have been in the bottle of barbecue sauce when they opened it, are you kidding me? How does a fresh black hair survive in a bottle of red barbecue sauce uncovered. I am not a fool. Shame on her for blaming poor staff hygiene and professionalism on a bottle of sauce! read more

I agree with Alexis B. "It's Steak 'n Shake. Never amazing.." We went to this location this past Saturday night when we were in town visiting the in-laws. I will start with the high points: The food was hot and fresh and exactly the way we wanted it with only one exception. Our server was very nice and attentive. It was a great place to get the family fed for under $30. Now for the not so good: We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated when we got there not because they were busy but because they only had 2 servers. Our server was nice but it took another 5 minutes to get menus and then our drinks. When we orders my mother in-law ordered a salad and asked for no cheese our serve took that down but when her food came out it had cheese and another server said "well it's on the side so you can just scrape it off" Overall our expectation for this place wasn't too high and we probably will be back to another Steak 'n Shake. read more

My wife wanted to come hear on our roadtrip after a yummy experience in Alabama. Well, the food here was pretty bad. The burgers tasted old, the buns were burned, and they looked like they were thrown together without much care. The order was wrong, and the place was pretty dirty, as well. However, the shake was pretty good, and worth the money, however the food wasn't worth waiting an hour for; my wife found this over an hour away and insisted that we wait to eat until we arrived. I'd pass on this Steak & Shake, and it made me reevaluate whether they are worth trying to find. read more

So I got here about every week with friends and get the same thing. Always have good service when we go about 7PM. But when we go around midnight the service is really poor. It takes them way to long to get you your food. And at times I have never had a refill on a drink when I've been there around midnight. Other than that its a really clean restaurant. read more

I go into S&S every couple of years and leave telling myself not to make that mistake again! Remember the crisp, slightly burned edges of the fresh slammed burger? GONE, nada, no more! The chili used to have meat in it, remember? Even the shakes, if you asked for no whipped cream I'd guess the glass would be half full. What a shame! read more
